Q: There's a nice hole in the carpet that's pretty deep. How do you fix it?
If you have a piece of the carpet available for a patch, you can do that quite easily. First, be sure none of the padding is missing - if it is, you'll need to fill that in first and then do the following: Cut a piece of sturdy cardboard into a circle (a square has corners, and corners are a no-no for patches - they tend to lift). Use that template carefully mark your carpet (you can trim back/shave the carpet itself within the space that will be cut to make it easier to manage) then trim the hole in the carpet to that shape. Don't freak out - it's MUCH easier to patch when they are both the same size it's easier this way rather than trying to trace the shape of the current hole - trust me! Once that is done, use the template again and (using a sharpie) draw a circle on the back of the spare piece of carpet for the patch. Cut the patch approximately 1/2 BIGGER than the template all the way around trying to keep it as uniform as you can. Take your scissors and trim away the carpet fibers from the outside edge of the patch up to the borderline of the template mark (the line you drew on the back of the patch piece). Slip the patch underneath the hole in the carpet so the 1/2 of bare backing is underneath the carpet, and the carpet fibers are coming up through the hole, filling it in. Use a hot glue gun and very carefully lift up the edge of the carpet apply glue between the carpet itself the lip of the patch. Press down as you go (using foil to protect your hands) all the way around the hole. I sure hope I explained this to where it's understandable! I've done it before (thanks to our dog who chewed three holes in our carpet when he was a pup) and it works beautifully no one knows where the patches are!
Q: I need carpet and pad installed in my home. I will remove old carpet. What is the estimated installation cost. Appx 1100 sf. thanks
Carpet prices vary widely as does quality. But you can get a mid grade carpet and pad to cover any warranties for around 3$ a s/f installed. Of course you can get a better carpet ( and cheaper ) but you generally get what you pay for.. Don t down grade pad since this is the back bone of any carpet..If any thing this is one place to up grade to what you can afford. GL
Q: Does anyone know if disposable kitchen rugs are made and sold anywhere? I would like to have a bunch of fairly good quality rugs in the closet and change then out whenever needed. Just pick u[p the dirty one and throw it away. Any ideas?
I have never heard of disposable kitchen rugs. Perhaps just buy s really cheap rug and then you can always throw it away when you are done. Some cheap area rugs are available at the following places:
Q: I'm taking on a rescue horse that my friend rescued. He has rainscald and I was wondering when turning him out should I put a rug on him? Because there so many diffrent answers also can you put louse powder on them? Also he ginger and I need a name really want it to be unqui :) thanks
ugh rainrot as i call it sucks:( My horse got it really bad one time, i agree with the below answer i would not put a rug or blanket over him the scabs need to dry out and get air to them a rug would just keep in all the mositure in. There are types of shampoo and cleaning supplies that are ment for that. While he has the rainscald i would highly recommend keeping him in a stall or barn if it is raining out, water getting to it will only make it worse. If it is a nice sunny day let him out so the sun can get to it and dry it out, once the scabs are dried out you can try brushing him to see if any loose ones will fall off, it will just take some time and attention before they all go away. best of luck!
Q: What can i do to make the bumps go away? i tried vacuuming and that works until i put the table on top of the rug. Help?
lay the rug out upside down and place some weight on the problem ares....boxes of books, or canned goods for example...it don't have to be too heavy. let it go for a few days and then turn the rug over and do the same with any problem areas
Q: rug is wool. its new. it costs 80 dollars to clean with the company.. id rather do it by hand.what besides hot water and a rug.. do i put on it to clean it by hand?
Hi For just a few spots Nature’s Miracle should work. It is available at Petsmart. Make sure you follow the direction. The main reason that it fails is that people just sprays it on and wipe it up and not let it soak into the carpet and pad like the urine did. You may need to do this 2 or 3 time. Just reminder that the urine treatment product needs to go where the urine went for it to work properly. After you clean the spots, you should shampoo the carpet using this product on the front and back of rug. In my experience, Nature's Miracle is your best bet. Good luck! Carpet cleaner for 14 years
Q: Hi,I am a tenant and had a leakage from a dishwasher. now carpet is wet and smelly.around 1 square meter is the carpet area affected. I told the landlord about it. My question is should I remove the carpet myself in the meantime just to prevent mould from building up?As long as I took pictures I am safe doing it if landlord does not send someone to fix within say 48 hours?Regardless, is it not the best thing to do anyway - remove the wet section and put in garbage until they come to install new carpet? is trying to dry and clean it instead an option?THANKS
Since you are a tenant, the carpet is the owner's property. You didn't mention if the wet spot smelled like mold so I am going to assume your answer would be yes. Since it has not been wet for very long from you, it may have gotten wet and moldy from a prior tenant and when it got wet from you, it reactivated the mold smell. The important thing is to get the water off the carpet from the top and under. If you have a wet/dry vac, vacuum as much as you can. You can also put towels down on the wet carpet and step on it. Keep doing that until you get up as much moisture as you can. What professionals do once that is done is they lift the carpet up and have a fan facing the wet carpet. The moving air will help dry it. You should not lift the carpet up yourself so you don't risk doing any damage to the carpet and have to pay for it yourself. As a tenant I would suggest you let the landlord take care of it. Make sure you put it in writing, depending on how responsive your landlord is. Date the letter and keep a copy for yourself. If the landlord does not take care of it within a reasonable period of time, you can call a professional and deduct it from your rent. If you do not have all of it in writing, you are not protected by tenant laws. I'm not sure what is considered a reasonable period of time for wet carpet.
Q: I have a bissel carpet shampooer. I use that wit hot water and the bissel cleaning solution... Which is okay working.. But I need to DEEP clean my carpets. Whats the best cleaning solutions I can use in my shampooer or pour directly on the stains? The stains are mostly pet stains (no odor) and the stairs get bad because of all the foot traffic. Any diy home remedies or anything really, thanks!
I've had my own carpet cleaner for years, and I like to go to the janitorial aisle of a big box hardware store and buy the off-brand gallon-size carpet cleaner. It's cheaper than the name brands (which are close to $20 now) and better. To get the deep stains, the trick is to pre-soak them with a mixture of the carpet cleaner and Oxi-Clean (assuming your carpet is not wool, in which case you cannot use Oxi-Clean). Let the cleaning solution sit there for a while, then go over it with the carpet cleaner. Finally, for those stained and extra dirty areas, there's value in finishing the process by placing old towels and the carpet and standing on them to soak up any remaining moisture (dirty water). Best of luck.
Q: i found maggots in my carpet.how do i kill them..can i put salt on them..?
it's time to freshen up your mess. Maggots are the effect of rotting flesh or rubbish. Your carpet might desire to be packed crammed with nutrients rubbish. the clothing are no longer the concern, properly, once you're a real slob they may well be, yet it is provided that they are coated in excrement or rubbish. you fairly might desire to freshen up the area, which will mean ripping out the carpet and sanitizing the comprehensive room. it is a wellness possibility.
Q: I have been living in a rental home for 2yrs and notice that the carpet is old. Due to the fact that i have had it clean 1 time steam clean and 2 times rental machine and stains will not come up. Asked rental company once and they said the owner does not have enough money to replace carpet. The carpet is over 10yrs old and you can tell because the edges are coming up and the man who clean the carpet one time said they don't make that kind of carpet any more. How can i get the owner to replace the carpet.
Send him a certified letter with return receipt - this way you know he recieved it. Let him know that the carpet is starting to come up and that you consider it a safety hazard. Ask politely if he/she can replace the carpet. Look up landlord - tenant laws in your state, there may be specifications on when carpet needs to be replaced. This may be a time limit or if certain conditions are met (ie: coming loose, excessive tears/damage, etc.) If you can find something that states he has a responsibility to replace the carpet then include that in your letter. If you can't find anything specific according to your state laws then you'll just have to keep asking politely. If he takes no action and it IS his legal responsibility then the next step would be to send him another certified letter stating that he has (specify a time limit, I would say 30 days) to replace the carpet or you will replace it and withhold the amount from your rent. Check and see if this is legal in your state - it is in most.
