Q: I just recently moved into an apartment that is all carpet. Wanted to know if there is any sort of temporary hardwood (or anything similar) floors, I can install over the carpet, since I am renting and cant rip out the carpets: If it is a tight, level loop commercial grade carpet with very little give to it, you can install a snap together laminate floor over the carpet. If there is a wood subfloor under the carpet, you do not need a pad or anything under the laminate. If there is a concrete slab under the carpet, you should probably put down a moisture barrier under the laminate, such as a sheet of visquine. The really great thing about this type of floor, is that when you move, you can unsnap it, take it up, and take it with you to your next rental without doing any damage to the home. Laminate comes in a wood look and a tile look. The tile look is more expensive, but it looks great in kitchens. The wood look is marketed two ways: really cheap, fake looking stuff, and higher end laminate that really looks like and has some texture and graining like real wood. I highly recommend WilsonArt for endurance, but it costs more. Shaw laminate has some amazingly realistic looking styles for reasonable prices. If you buy an $0.89 per sq ft laminate, you will probably get some chips in it. Make sure you have some left over in case you need to do a repair (no matter which brand you buy.) Styles are discontinued regularly!

Q: We are replacing the carpet in two spare rooms with laminate flooring. What is the best way to get rid of the carpet?: Using a sharp blade like a wallpaper cutter or a box cutter, cut the carpet into small strips by cutting from one end of the room across to the other and them across the other side of the room until you have small squares for easy disposal. Then pull up the carpet and the foam backing and be careful when you get clost to the wall because of the tacking at the edge close to the wall on the cement flooring or wood flooring. Remove the carpet taking with a crowbar like tool that had an edge like the claw of a hammer to remove the tacking and the nails. You must remove the taking nails or grind them down to a smooth surface before trying to attempt installing any type of other flooring

Q: SO my dog had bad diaheria and made a nasty nasty mess on the carpet in a few spots and it was just aweful so only thing i had was oxi clean so put oxiclean on the spots which were very large spots and now its super white in those spots which is better then poo but looks crazy... what can I do to make it look not as noticable? Q: I have to clean a carpet that has a red cool aid stain on it? Since it is not my carpet, I have no idea how long the stain has set into the carpet. I am willing to try just about anything short of a beach based cleaner? The carpet is an off white, so it's extremely noticable. Any suggestions, or is this a hopeless case?: I'm no expert on getting rid of stains, but I can offer some help in preventing them. Whenever a liquid is spilled on carpet, instead of pushing it into the carpet by sopping it up, cover the spill with a generous amount of table salt. The salt draws the moisture out and then when it dries it can be vacuumed up. If blood gets on rugs or carpet or most any material (probably not dry clean only) lay ice cubes on the spots. As the ice melts the blood will literally disappear. You may need to keep adding ice as it melts but I have used this several times and it does work. Good Luck!
