Q: How much should I look for paying for my 1998 Honda Accord Water Pump??? With Labor and Materials?
Do it yourself and save $600. It's not that hard and it'll be a learning experience. If you have any friends that know how to work on cars ask them to help.
Q: i have a well that i am trying to pump and i need to have one pump to bring the water up from the well, and one pump to take it out to our lawn. i just wanted to know if i could hook the irrigation pump directly into the well pump, or if that would be damaging to the pump?thanks!
The problem with hooking up two pumps directly to each other (with just a pipe in between) is that one will work faster than the other. If the faster one is first, then the pipe in between will get pressurised and force water into the second pump, perhaps damaging it or the forcing pump. If the slower one is first, then the pipe in between won't be full and the second pump will be running dry.
Q: ok so i have a crack in my radiator a small crack but anyways yesterday it caused my car to over heat. i normally keep coolant in the car but it just got low and over heated pretty bad. so today the car is making a really loud annoying noise. coolant is also draining out of the bottom of the engine when the car is on. at a pretty good pace. it is coming out like right under the belt area so my friend said it is probably the water pump baring and he said it could have gotten damaged when it over heated. so i think these symptoms def point to the water pump. anyways i called a mechanic and he said that he had to change the belt to and he said he had to charge me $385. what you guys think. does he need to change the pump and the belt or just the pump? and is $385 a rip off or is that the going rate? thank you all for your knowledgeand information
Read the above PLUS realize that you MUST use ONLY genuine Toyote coolant in your car. Other coolants will cause further deterioration of your cooling components. I have seen Toyota cylinder heads that look like Swiss cheese from using the green stuff. Also, make sure that your mechanic uses only genuine Toyota replacement parts, and NOT rebuilt pump. Replace the tensioner and idler pulleys now, as well. The price is a rip off if cheaper parts are being used. If these are all factory parts, then this price is GREAT!!
Q: My 93 Ford t-bird over heats and i really don't know what could be the problem, the radiator is working fine, and also the fan and the thermostat, i don't think is a head gasket because the oil looks alright with no contamination and there is no steam coming from the exhaust im beginning to suspect the water pump but the weep hole is not leaking. So does a water pump MUST leak from the weep hole if it is bad, or it could be bad and not leak? thanks in advance...
How To Test Water Pump
Q: I need a water pump gasket for my mustang water pump. What can I use if I have no gasket material?
I wouldn't use anything except what was required for that pump installation because I wouldn't want to have to go back and do the whole job a second time if the pump leaks around the gasket area. A new gasket should come with a new pump. If not go back to a quality auto parts store and get a gasket. I'm not sure I'd trust the squeeze on gasket silicone in place of a gasket and I'd get Permatex gasket sealer to use with the new gasket on all surfaces before I reinstalled the pump. It's worth taking your time to do it right. Make sure there's no antifreeze coolant oozing onto the metal sealing surfaces, because the gasket won't seal unless the surfaces are clean and dry (been there, done that).
Q: What things in my car could the seizing of my water pump cause? As I stated in another question, the power steering went, the red battery light came on and it over heated. The mechanic said it seized and i'm lucky the engine didn't seize. He has to look into it more. I'm just really curious as to what kind of damage i've done and the possibilities! thanks in advance.
Plan on the car failing completely soon...the rings probably were damaged from excessive heat...depending on how long you drove it while it was too hot. The rings on the pistons are most likely bad now and will start fouling you spark plugs....best start saving now for another car.....here's a hint..if the car is in great shape other wise take it to a dealer for a trade in..before it fails and they give you a better trade in value.
Q: I have a leak coming from the water pump that flows down on the side of the AC compressor before landing on the ground. I cannot verify exactly where the leak is coming from on the pump, but I am sure it is the pump leaking because it also sounds bad like rattling. My question is do I have to remove any other components, such as the AC compressor to be able to remove the water pump. I would be great full for any suggestions.Regards,Steph
Mercedes Benz Water Pump
Q: My '95 Ford Ranger has had the sound of a bearing going bad in a pulley for about two months. Finally this weekend I started it up and it must have locked up, the belt was squealing really loud and snapped. So, now the water pump pulley has rubber chunks on it, which would make me think that is the bad pulley. But the pulley spins perfectly, really smooth. The alternator pulley on the other hand does not spin perfectly. It is not really hard to spin, but it does not spin smoothly. And the alternator pulley is real clean, no rubber on it at all. Any thoughts? I was thinking of buying a cheap belt and putting it on there, have someone start the truck and watch under the hood to see which is bad.
Well from your description I would say it's the water pump, as that is where the residue is but if all the pullies are spinning by hand I would suggest gtting a throwaway belt and looking for yourself. Also if you had any overheating problems before than I would lean to the water pump, or if you had any dead batteries or charging problems I would lean to the alternator then. What about the A/C compressor that could also be the problem, so could a tensioner as well. So I stick with my original statement and try to get a cheap belt and look for yourself, just make sure you wear protective glasses so if it does snap you dont lose your eyes actually just be careful when you do it OK!!! Good Luck, Tony
Q: After the pump has the control box, but also the power distribution box, the control box and the distribution box is not the same box?
What you are saying is not a concept. The function of the control box is to control one or more equipment and to protect the equipment. The function of the distribution box is to distribute the power. The control box is connected to the power box, and the power box may be responsible for several devices at the same time. The distribution box is just one of them.
Q: should replace timing belt & water pump on a newly purchased used vehicle..if no records of last x changed?
CHECK the color of the COOLANT! genuine TOYOTA factory coolant is RED< and not GREEN or ORANGE or any other color! You can REMOVE the TIMING BELT COVER and check it for yourself! I can ASSURE YOU that in this cars PAST, the WATER PUMP and TIMING BELT were Chane or you would NOT BE DRIVING IT! There is NO timing belt or pump that can LIVE TO 160k miles! CHANCES are that this belt and pump were changed at 90-100k miles, and you are NOW DUE for another CHANGE flush and fill of the RED FACTORY COOLANT! The repair kit for a LEXUS or TOYOTA 3.0 liter engine, is about $140 including a brand new GENUINE AISIN PUMP from JAPAN! USE ROCK AUTO for these kit prices and parts! UNFORTUNATELY to do this job right requires a few SPECIAL TOYOTA TOOLS as well! The LEXUS RX300 needs a few panels removed as well! the 4 RUNNER should be EASIER to access! MOSt dealership want nearly $750 for a COOLING SYSTEM change, and a NEW WATER PUMP and TIMING BELT KIT installed! Both TOYOTA and LEXUS charge the EXACT SAME PRICE in the Detroit area!
