Q: The difference between asbestos cement fiberboard and cement fiberboard
Non-asbestos cement fiberboard and cement fiber board is the main difference between a main inside of the fiber with asbestos, one is useless, because China is a major producer of asbestos, Europe and the United States did not, so Europe and the United States said that asbestos harmful not to use, Of the product imports, but the domestic scientific research to confirm the usual use of asbestos are chrysotile, the human body is not harmful
Q: I need to cut a curved piece of cement board. Will it work to score it with a utility knife, then break it? Thanks.
Yes it cuts just like drywall, scrore then snap.Score a bit deeper though.
Q: do you have to tape cement board before tiling?
Yes you need to tape the cement board just like drywall to avoid cracking problems later on. If you're gonna do a job, do it right.
Q: We have an older house (1957) that has 1 thick beams as a substrate floor. Currently, there is 1/2 plywood on top of the substrate floor. We are going to rip this up so that we can apply mortar to the substrate for leveling purposes. We would put the porcelain tile directly on top of the cement board. The guy at Home Depot (a former contractor) said we can just use 1/2 cement board directly on top of the substrate floor without a layer of plywood underneath. The substrate is old, but sturdy real-wood diagonal beams that lay on top of the joists. He said they are plenty strong and we don't really need to add a plywood subfloor if we use 1/2 thick cement board. What do you think? Do you think we could get away will laying down cement board on top of the substrate floor without plywood for added strength? Thanks!

Q: A clerk told there there is a special hole saw for ceeeeeement board--but I never saw the same clerk again. I need to make five 2'' holes.

Q: im using a cement backer board why do i need a scratch coat and mesh?
I don't believe you do need the scratch coat or the mesh if you're applying to cement backer board. If my memory serves me correctly that's the idea of cement backing board... to eliminate the extra work.
Q: I need to have my foundation parged with waterprof cement. the area is about 350 sq ft. How much should I expect in materials and labor? i live in new england area.
I own a waterproofing company in the Nashville area. The membrane with protection board is $1.50 per. sq. ft. here. I would recommend a rubberized product instead of cement.
Q: We are going to remove the vinyl flooring. It has a 1/4in sub floor over hardwood.
You need 1/4 hardi board at least the seams will crack if the floor moves at all. I did a bath and there was one small 4 sq inch depression and the tile broke right at that spot in less then a week.I would say yes .I am not a pro tile man but a pro DIY guy
Q: i am using cement board to cover a wood floor before laying tile. the last time i used it, i cut it with a circular saw (what a mess) dust everywhere. is there a better way??
sharp utility knife and a strait edge. Score a couple times and break. If the board contains fiberglass mesh, you'll have to cut from the opposite side after its broken and bent 90 degrees.
Q: hi my daughters room has cement sheeting (panels) that make up her walls and roof and it looks really bad. I can see the joining lines even though its been painted over - do i have to remove all the walls and have the walls re plastered? is there any handy hits to fix this up? not sure you could putty up the lines and sand back as the boards currently up have big grooves - i did think about wood paneling around the room but you would still have the roof issue and the board lines above the panels - looking for a cost effective solution. Thanks heaps
If you are good with using joint compound you can go over the walls with that. A friend of mine had several rooms where there was drywall embossed with vertical lines and then printed to look like pine paneling. I simply went over the walls with a skim coat of joint compound to fill in all the vertical lines and it was fine. Fast an easy.
