Q: I'm concerned about the silica dust. Should I hire someone?
You have a minor concern. Wear a respirator if possible. At least a dust mask. If the board was properly put down you also have to scrape up thin set under the board.Thin set also contains silica Plastic off all doors, cabinets vents ( hot and cold) and cover furniture. You ll do a better job at doing this than any one you hire. Or you cover it and hire some one. It s hard, very dusty job. Usually a one time deal isn t a concern ( as long as you take precautions) unless you have breathing problems. I ve dealt with doing this sort of work for 20+ years and no problem. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: Can the cement pressure plate be made of sanitary partitions?
Veneer brick hanging does not hang the network is not very important economic conditions can be used or else to remove
Q: Is the Etter board available for exterior finishes?
Often used for external wall panels (with moisture, waterproof, sound effects), bathroom partition, outdoor roof roof, external wall insulation board, interior decoration, smallpox, etc .; can also replace the use of gypsum board used in the decoration of the substrate.
Q: after installing my bathtub do i use 1/4 in. or 1/2 in. cement board for surrounding before ceramic tiling?
1/2 will hold up better to the weight of the tile and someone banging into it.
Q: I have so many people and floor co. telling me that one is better than the other! I am retired so I need to get the most out of my money and want to do it correct one time. So which is better to us on a raised floor for tile, floating cement or cement backer board? Please help thanks!!
I would say backer board. If planned on doing marble or granite floors that is when you would use cement. Also they will end up charging you more if you do floating cement, make sure to read through your estimates thoroughly before agreeing to anything. Hope that helps!
Q: My husband fixed the faucet in the tub around two years ago. He cracked one of the tiles. We bandaged the area, but water has been getting behind the tiles. So, we have water damage. Plus, there is this weird white fungus looking stuff that is growing in some of the grout lines. I don't want to just put a liner over this mess. I would like to pull all the tile off and put cement board up (the house is old and it has sheet rock behind the tile), so i can start fresh. Will the liner hold up the same if it is glued to cement board rather than tile?
Rip out all the tile and drywall. Tear out insulation if it got wet. Spray framing with clorox and water and let dry. Install new insulation and 15 lb.felt on any wall that is an outside wall. Install cement backerboard. There are some special ways to tile on cement backerboard so check back when you are ready to tile. Greenboard is a no no in a tub area. It is no longer being used in tubs and showers where there is water. Good Luck!
Q: How to solve the old concrete and the new pouring between the concrete does not leak it?
This expansion of 50 * 100cm concrete floor, the first is to ensure the safety of the structure, need to consider the wall load and the floor will bear the live load, there is no high stiffness of several I-beam or angle as a beam, feel unsafe. It is recommended to install three beams, concrete inside can not use steel. Wall holes do not need too much, with mortar fixed I-beam or angle steel, mortar hardening for three days after the follow-up operation.
Q: I am seeking to set porcelain tile on top of the hardibacker board once it is secured. If I have to remove the Barmaill plywood, does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this with ease? I assume its glued as well as screwed down.
If plywood is secure, leave it.
Q: We are going to remove the vinyl flooring. It has a 1/4in sub floor over hardwood.
Are you saying hardwood and not the ply wood sub floor? You can t go over hard wood with tile, even with a backer board. There is to much movement and expansion and contraction . Must remove this too. Now if you mean sub floor then yes it s very important that you do cement board ( 1/2) you need this total thickness in substrate to meet tile codes 1 1/4 minimum. This must be layed properly in a bed a thin set and nail well. Any other questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications there GL
Q: I want to install ceramic tile in my kitchen. My subfloor consists of 2x8 on 16 centers with 1/2 5 ply plywood. Will it be OK to lay 1/2 cement board directly on this or do I need to some how increase the strength of the subfloor? Any recommendations.
you could do that and MAYBE not have a problem. but if it was me, the 1/2 would come out and 3/4 would replace it. i have done a few jobs for people that dont want to replace the 1/2 and didn't have any problems with the tile or grout lines cracking. its just up to you really. if there is ANY give at all on you floor right now, id replace the 1/2.
