Q: I get conflicting opinions from mechanics about extended shut-down.I am parked for 3 months and driving is not an option. Should I re-start my diesel engine weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or just wait the 3 months and re-start then? If so, should I just restart as normal?I do know when I re-start, I must wait until normal temperture is reached prior to shut down, this could take 20 minutes or longer with the rear mounted engine. The radiator covered from the outside will not warm-up as fast as a front mounted engine. Covering this radiator from the inside is not an option due to a shroud covering the fan.
if you are going to leave it sitting they can sit for more than a year and it will still run fine but the only question is the battery they can not stay fully charged so if not using then disconnect the positive side to the battery and when you want to use it just reconnect it this is the way i do to preserve the battery and for added protection add stabil (fuel stabilizer) to diesel if it is going to sit through the winter Edit : a battery charger is a good idea My parent's RV has a solar panel which keeps the battery fully charged but does not use the RV much 1 to 2 times a year had a stabil in it so far no problems but the generator is problematic cause it runs on gas so I had to start it every month to make sure there is no problems with it(run it for 1/2 hour) gas deteriorates faster than diesel even if it has stabil
Q: engine is on a generator with about 800 hrs. changed fuel and fuel is getting to cylinder, pulled valve cover and valves are moving like they should, sprayed either in air intake and still no pop. any ideas other than to scrap the engine
Either needs a little fuel present to combust properly in an engine. If there isn't any, either won't do anything except make the engine spin over faster. Double check to make sure the injector pump is supplying fuel to the injectors.
Q: A. Chernobyl, UkraineB. Middletown, PennsylvaniaC. Ottawa, Canada
Date and Time: The Chernobyl nuclear accident occurred on Saturday, April 26, 1986, at 1:23:58 a.m. local time. Location: The V.I. Lenin Memorial Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station was located in Ukraine, near the town of Pripyat, which had been built to house power station employees and their families. The power station was in a wooded, marshy area near the Ukraine-Belarus border, approximately 18 kilometers northwest of the city of Chernobyl and 100 km north of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The Accident: On April 26, 1986, the operating crew planned to test whether the Reactor No. 4 turbines could produce enough energy to keep the coolant pumps running until the emergency diesel generator was activated in case of an external power loss. During the test, power surged unexpectedly, causing an explosion and driving temperatures in the reactor to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius—melting the fuel rods, igniting the reactor’s graphite covering, and releasing a cloud of radiation into the atmosphere. Causes: The precise causes of the accident are still uncertain, but it is generally believed that the series of incidents that led to the explosion, fire and nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl was caused by a combination of reactor design flaws and operator error. Number of Deaths: By mid-2005, fewer than 60 deaths could be linked directly to Chernobyl—mostly workers who were exposed to massive radiation during the accident or children who developed thyroid cancer. Estimates of the eventual death toll from Chernobyl vary widely. A 2005 report by the Chernobyl Forum—eight U.N. organizations—estimated the accident eventually would cause about 4,000 deaths. Greenpeace places the figure at 93,000 deaths, based on information from the Belarus National Academy of Sciences.
Q: How to calculate fuel average consumption hours/liter?
You just take the number of hours the generator was running, and the number of liters of fuel it used, and then divide. If it runs for 10 hours on 2 liters of fuel, then its average consumption is 5 hours per liter (10 divided by 2).
Q: And this person said it also all depends on what PLANT the stuff came from. No wonder the asian kids are ahead of us.
If it's a diesel generator, why could it not run on BioDiesel? Not sure about the plant part, but provided it's not unleaded, I see no reason to not consider Bio as an option.
Q: i have an old marine onan generator. It is a two cylinder diesel engine and the block is almost round on the bottom. I thought it was a cummins but im not sure. I know it is vague but can anyone help.

Q: for houses operating on diesel generators and inverters
the one with the lowest wattage rating, either domestic or foreign. just make sure it is made to work with the output of your generator ie; voltage and cycles
Q: Diesel generator belongs to special equipment
(including cylinders, the same below), pressure pipes, elevators, cranes, passenger ropeway, large recreational facilities
Q: Hi and thanks for reading.I have a small trailer I am looking for a back up propane generator for.We have wind storms here that knock out power for days on end, about a half dozen times per year, so I'm looking to get some back up electricity, howeverMy lot size is SMALL, so is my trailer. I have a natural gas line, and gas furnace, so I only use about 1500 watts at peak times, so I figure a 3k watt generator will more than cover my needs.SOUND is a huge factor. I have the worst neighbors in the world and I really need something quiet. I'm looking for something with less than 60 ddb.I have seen a lot of propane generators that look good, but I dont know if they can be used with natural gas easily. I think so, but would love to hear if thats true, and they dont have the standby plug feature, which I need to save my fish tank, any know if this can be easily changed by a skilled electrician?Thank you. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I've seen ones running propane, gas and diesel. The larger units for the power you want normally come in their own enclosure helping to keep noise under control. I've not see one designed for natural gas. No propane ones are not designed for natural gas. The engines have to be designed to handle it so you would need to converse with a place selling these to find out if such are available. If not contact the mfrs for information as to this conversion idea. The enhance quiet you can also build an enclosure around the generator which would limit sound travel from the unit.
Q: I want to purchase a solar powered backup generator in the event that we have a power outage. I don't want a gas/diesel generator as I don't want to have to fight everyone else to get gas for a generator. I've been only able to find one solar generator that would seem to work for my home. Any suggestions?
