Q: gas is too expensive. here in florida i guess everyone has a noisy gas powered generator for when hurricanes knock out our power: If its disel, of course. a disel generator with biodisel is an excellent way to recharge batteries in an electric vehicle.

If you want to get paid more and have more free time with your family then choose the new job but if you want to have a stable job and not have as much time with your family then stay with your job. You will probably found a label on generator with those Information: Ex. volt (maximum excitation voltage) Ex. amp (maximum excitation amperage) Your AVR output must exceed those specs. If generator is brushless type in most cases it does. Also input voltage of AVR must be the same as output of generator (ex. 110V110V, 220V220V). If generator is triple phase then you can do the same (ex. 380V380V, 440V440V) but if generator have output in star formation then you can use node for a smaller voltage of AVR (ex. 380V220V, 440V253V). If generator work in parallel operation (usually marine main generators does) then things get complicated. In this case AVR is good to support current transformer to make generator more elastic under load fluctuations and match other generators in the same circuit.

Q: Does any one know the best way to go about have an entire house run off of a generator? Mostly likely over periods of no great than two weeks. You might as well bite the bullet and get a permanent or standby generator. If you're looking at supplying power for up to two weeks at time, then you need to think about fuel. That's a lot of gasoline or diesel to be schlepping around, so maybe consider a generator that runs on natural gas or propane. A shed should be OK; just need to vent the exhaust. A standby generator would usually come with its own weather-proof enclosure.

A large gas turbine can be as much as 57% efficient in electricity production, which is far higher than a diesel engine. A gallon of diesel fuel contains about 130,000 BTU, or 137 megajoules (MJ). At a 55% conversion rate, that would mean 75.35 MJ of electricity. There are 3.6 MJ in a KWh, so that's 20.9 KWh per gallon of diesel, or 20,930 KWh for 1000 gallons.
