Q: I want to run the generator just enough to feedback enough kilowatts to make my annual bill zero usage.
I'm not sure what you have in mind is a good idea. If you mean hook up a gas-powered generator, that will almost certainly be more expensive than grid electricity, and worse for the environment. Where I live in California, it is impossible to pay zero to the electric company while connected to the grid, that's just the way the program works. We are billed a minimum usage of 1 kWh a day, whether we use it or not. Also, having a gas generator ultimately tying back to the grid would classify me as a small generator, and require an agreement with the power company similar to the one I have for solar alone. I don't know what the rules are where you're located, but maybe they follow a similar philosophy? EDIT: okay, I see now. At least for my system, the entire system must be approved as a whole. If I want to alter the system, even by adding a couple panels, I'm supposed to notify the power company. Also, where I live, solar is treated differently from other forms of generation. Solar qualifies for net metering. If I wanted to be a small generator from (say) hydro, my output would be bought at a paltry rate, not even exchange at the same price that I buy at. Your hybrid system, with the generator rectified into DC then passed through your grid-tied inverter, might fall under the same classification, depending on where you live. Also check your inverter warranty to see if it might be voided by connecting to a diesel generator.
Q: For anyone well up on EMD E and F units: saw a rather frightful picture last night of an F unit slamming into a switcher. not pretty ofcourse. it was on a curve so the F unit fell to her side to the outside of the curve. but not before breaking in half right behind the cab. the picture caption remarked that this was a common feature of the Es and Fs. By design? for safety? or design flaw? first time id seen this type of damage to an F, and certainly have never heard this comment of them. can someone clarify please? Couple days ago i was doing some reminiscing of railfanning way back in the day. i was fondly thinking of the great time i had with the crews. got to thinking about more of the details. all the stuff they had shown me. then something popped into my head. torpedoes! back then, scary lil devices to me! but rightlyfully so. so while im here in questions, are track torpedoes still used (when needed)? are they still around? havent seen one in quite along time since ive thought about it.thank you!
No, none of the class 1's hvae F or E-units that they use in freight service. However, a couple class 1's, including CP NS do own active F-units that are used for business trains or other special passenger trains, such as CP's Royal Canadian Pacific, which is pulled by F-units.
Q: What is the difference between a diesel generator and a super silent generator?
Ordinary diesel generator noise than super silent diesel generator noise
Q: I am build a 40KVA permanent magnet generator for diesel engine. the customer request the voltage is DC 28V after an rectifier. may be this 28V dc charge for the battery. can someone help me how much AC voltage should be output by the permanent magnet generator?permanent magnet generator----AC ???V----rectifier---28VDC---charge to battery.
In AC side connect a series high current Choke with less no of turns take the out put use a High current bridge Diodes with suitable heat sink. For regulating out put ,In the series choke place a Dc winding that can be excited by a separate dc circuit, Increase saturation will give same voltage decrease excitation will give drop in voltage. It is like magnetic Amplifier.Set the out put voltage with pre set point or a regulating circuit.I have given rough Idea If you want further detail PM me (This only cheapest method unless you have use thyristor or others to con troll may be expensive)
Q: I think i'm looking for 5000 watts which should cover my fridges and a fan and light, maybe the TV too. I also think I want 120/220v, and one that uses unleaded. What about horsepower and rated output? Are those important? What's the difference between say a Cummins Onan 6500 at Costco (currently $250 off) and a $399 generator of the same wattage on sale at Home Depot for example?
We went whole hog before the year 2000 in preparation of Y2K. We bought a 6500 KVA Coleman which at an 80% duty cycle should give 5200 continuous watts of power. This would service a refrigerator, an energy efficient small freezer, lights, maybe a TV. Enough to get you through 72 hours of whatever. We only had to fire it up one time, when there was a big outage due to a big power pole being out. (We live out in the country, so we have a Franklin stove with pot hooks, grill, etc., so we can make coffee, cook, etc.) We also keep 75 individual gallons of pure water, enough supplies to handle two weeks, and a continous spring to handle bathrooms. We got our generator from Northern Tool. Another good place is Harbor Freight. Better to be prepared than to be sorry, tomorrow. At the time of the dawning of this new century, we could accomodate all our family and friends for 90 days, and never leave the property.
Q: for a diesel generator of about 113 HP. What is the typical exhaust temperature?
i ve worked on a 440kw engine as a general rule the exhaust temperatures are never let to go in excess of 400 degrees. normal exhaust temperature at 300 kw was 350 deg celsius.
Q: I have noticed that our kilowatthour meter reads backwards when I use some electrical appliances, please explain why. plgperera.
are you sure u dont have a diesel generator that sells el. energy back to the grid? jk Is this first time you look at the meter? If so take a look again, should be ok.
Q: I want to place a quiete genarator which is about 7kva. Will it disturb people in my apartment? We usually make a lot noise in the building. But doesn't sound a lot also?
It sounds like a really bad idea. Not just noise-wise, but storing petrol or diesel in your apartment is a significant fire risk and possibly breach of your tenancy/lease agreement or giving an insurance company a let-out in the event of fire. Are you sure you don't mean 700va ? this is about the smallest, quietest generator.
Q: I have a (2306A-E14TAG3) PERKINS diesel engine electric generator, every two hours it turns off by itself. The generator room is well ventilated, opened from all sides, while the exhaust is free for atmosphere without any extensions from the muffler.- 66% used as part load.- Note that this generator is a new generator. ambient temperature is almost 30 degrees celcius, humidity65%.Please help me with this issue, because every two hourse i used to cool the radiator from outside by water! I appreciate your help
REASONS FOR PERKINS GENERATORS TO SHUT DOWN (according to Ehow): 1. Not putting out correct voltage (too high or too low). 2. Wrong frequency 3. Wrong speed 4. Wrong oil pressure (too high or too low). ///////// Other sources of failure: High current, battery won't charge, speed sensor not working,
Q: I have a generator in the building I am working on. It appears quite dated, but its stats are as follows: it’s a 415 Volt 3 Phase Diesel Generator. On the plate of the generator:415V3 Phase640KVA520KWPower Factor 0.8902 AmpsSo my question is:We are testing the generator to its full load, now my load is at power factor 1. Would I be correct in assuming that because my load is power factor 1 that the full load of my generator is 640kW not 520kW.Or is it that my actual power loading is rated at 520kW, but that load is allowed to be inductive or capacitive to 0.8.Because it says 900 amps on the plate I am therefore under the assumption that regardless of my load characteristics, as long as I do not exceed 900 amps there should be no problem. Or is it a case that my load can only be 520kW and the highest I can allow the phase to go out is up to 640kVA.Hope that makes sense, ill edit if not. Thanks for reading.
While your generator will handle the amperes as either KVA or KW, unfortunately, the KW rating is is the rating of your driver. You are driver limited, not generator limited.
