Q: i am going to buy a second hand generator which is 108kva diesel enginehow can i test it so i know it starts but also is capable of running around 80-100kvai want to make sure it is strong and still working and not that it just startsplease help thankssam
start it up and plug it up to something, and let it run, the seller should have something to plug it in and show you it does work good.
Q: im an helper mechanic and i ask my boss about it he didntgive me an answer so selfish of him !!!
Reverse power shutdown, can be caused by to low of a frequency or hertz setting, below 60hz., for example 30hz., or cycles. It also can be caused if several generators are on the same line, and one has a much lower output,It will shutdown or trip off on reverse power.Hope this helps
Q: I get conflicting opinions from mechanics about extended shut-down.I am parked for 3 months and driving is not an option. Should I re-start my diesel engine weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or just wait the 3 months and re-start then? If so, should I just restart as normal?I do know when I re-start, I must wait until normal temperture is reached prior to shut down, this could take 20 minutes or longer with the rear mounted engine. The radiator covered from the outside will not warm-up as fast as a front mounted engine. Covering this radiator from the inside is not an option due to a shroud covering the fan.
if you are going to leave it sitting they can sit for more than a year and it will still run fine but the only question is the battery they can not stay fully charged so if not using then disconnect the positive side to the battery and when you want to use it just reconnect it this is the way i do to preserve the battery and for added protection add stabil (fuel stabilizer) to diesel if it is going to sit through the winter Edit : a battery charger is a good idea My parent's RV has a solar panel which keeps the battery fully charged but does not use the RV much 1 to 2 times a year had a stabil in it so far no problems but the generator is problematic cause it runs on gas so I had to start it every month to make sure there is no problems with it(run it for 1/2 hour) gas deteriorates faster than diesel even if it has stabil
Q: I want to run the generator just enough to feedback enough kilowatts to make my annual bill zero usage.
Power and gas companies also charge you a monthly fee for the meter on your house.
Q: I know that they could re-surface to re-establish a normal supply of air but what about when they were under attack and couldnt surface for long periods of time, wouldnt those engines use up a lot of the oxygen inside the sub?
As others have stated the diesel engines could be used under water only with a snorkle system which wasn't very practical to do if you were indeed under attack. The have ports at the engine room to take in combustion air (oxygen) and to exhaust the combustion gases. The generator/motor was built inline with the drive shaft to the main propeller. As the diesel engine powered the prop it used the generator/motor to charge a bank of batteries. When the sub went under the diesel engines were shut off and the sub was powered by the battery bank. There is a huge switch station just to the rear of the engine room for this purpose.
Q: creating steam turbines that can run on ANYTHING to power the electric generators in modern engines?
A diesel electric train will run on biodiesel with minor or NO modification. By adding a steam turbine you will also need to add a steam boiler and all the associated plant. (and water). Then the inefficiency of transporting this weight, swings the balance back to the diesel electric. The best option is to run a purely electric train and generate the power from stationary power station. If you use biodiesel or any other fuel to generate electricity. You don't need to transport the weight of the generator, can control fluid levels better (particularly steam) and you can use better (heavier) forms of pollution control. This applies to cars also.
Q: I have a 3 bedroom / 1 bath home. It is just 2 of us in the house. Also, I've heard that there is way to plug your generator into any wall outlet and it will charge your whole house. Any truth to this?
Plugging a generator into an ordinary wall outlet limits you 15-20 amps of single phase power, or less than 2000-2500w. And it would only energize one leg, or about half the circuits in your house. You'd also want to throw your main breakers to prevent you from backfeeding the neighborhood and/or electrocuting a lineman. Overall, it's not a safe or efficient way to connect a generator. You want a generator plugin that will safely allow more power to fed into your house along with a transfer switch that will properly isolate your house from the grid whenever you want to connect a generator. As for sizing, you need to figure out what you really need vs. what you have, and for how long. For most storm-related outages, you can probably get by with a relatively small amount of power (refrigerator, a few lights, etc) for the few hours or at most 1-2 days that power will likely be out. If you want to cover longer outages or you have higher level of necessities, then you'll need a larger generator. Also, you need to worry about a fuel supply especially if you're planning for a long outage. Fuel transportation and storage can both be problematic, although the problems vary by fuel type (gasoline, diesel, natural gas or propane).
Q: Hello. we are installing a Diesel Generator for running our house. We are off grid. We are buying a Cummins 15 KVA/12KW Prime Power Generator. This generator can supply 23 Amps per phase in the standby mode with a PF of .8 With the normal set up, we can run only 3, single phase 18,000 BTU ACs, one on each phase. I read somewhere that by installing Power factor Capacitors, we can install more than one AC on each phase. Do you know anything about that? Is it an easy task or do I need to get an engineering degree for this? I'm some what comfortable with doing electrical work and can do minor calculations as well.Any help would be really appreciated.Greetings from Iran
First you desire and electric expert no longer HVAC expert. If the strategies (limited) I even have seen on means factor capacitors is right you need to run greater effective than the rated amps on a single leg yet purely for a limited time. sturdy success.
Q: I may soon have to relocate to a place where the electricity is infrequent but my livelihood depends on the internet. my plan is to access the internet through the telephone and run the computer on a diesel generator and also an inverter. is it possible, what precautions should i take to make this work. will this plan work.
Get a surge protector or a battery back up just incase, with generators you are more prone to get voltage spikes causing the voltage to go up and down. I would connect the computer tower and the monitor on a surge protector. But it should be ok other than that.
Q: I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? I am not sure even where to start adjusting anything on this. Any body have one of these and same problem? Please I was given it, I would like to get a little service out of it , not just junk it Fuel, oil, air filter are all new.so? help?
So what did you want to do with this engine? It sounds like a stationary engine used to power a generator or pump or similar application at a constant RPM.
