Q: diesel generator
With practical measurements of voltage and current to the drive motor(s) under stall conditions if possible, or under full acceleration under maximum load, and an assumed motor efficiency. Best bet.
Q: Hi. We're off grid and therefore installing a 3 phase Diesel generator. Each phase is rated at 20 Amps continuous(23 Amps max). we want to run 3 Split type ACs, one on each phase, plus some other small appliances. Our problem is that each AC has a start up current of 20 Amps, which will trip the safety circuit on the generator everytime it comes on.The ACs running current is only 8 Amps, but jumps to 20 Amps for a split second everytime the Compressor comes on.Is there a simple way to control the start up current on the ACs? I read something about putting a coil of wire on the input of the Compressor. I tried that with a water pump just to check if it works. The surge current was still there.Any ideas if I can use a Capacitor? If yes, can you tell me what capacity I should use? If you give me the formula I can figure it myself. We run on 220-240 Volts, 50 HZ.Thanks for your answers.
Is it too late to switch to a 240 volt single phase generator of the same capacity? This would have a 60 amp capability and would handle the surges with no trouble. I don't see how a capacitor will help. If you are stuck with the 3 phase generator, perhaps you can switch the ACs for ones with 3 phase motors. That will spread the surge over the 3 phases. There are also soft-start ACs .
Q: Diesel generator BOC alarm is what
Should strengthen the lubrication system, cooling system maintenance, adequate oil and cooling water.
Q: I want to calculate the Genset load of following 3 phase, 50 C/s, 400/ 440 volts electric motors coupled with Water pumps.60 HP x 4 Nos. + 100 HP x 3 Nos. + 225 HP x 3 Nos.What is the method for calculating the safest load for all these motors to run simultaneously.
You are after capacity of the generator not load. You add up all the power required: 240 HP + 300 HP + 675 HP 1215 HP 1 HP 746 W Power required 906.39 kW You take this figure in consideration to choose your set allowing for efficiency and power factor.
Q: I want to build a diesel engine driven generator. The type of gen I have is asynchron, 400/690 V, 7,5 kW, 9,4 kVA and I was told that I need to stimulate it with capacitors (the unit is supposed to work without connection to a public netstand-aloneisland-service). Who can give me instructions how to do the el. part, size/type of capacitors etc?
Because it lacks a separate field circuit, an induction generator cannot produce reactive power. In fact, it consumes reactive power, and an external source of reactive power must be connected to it at all times [1]. So you are right that you will need a three-phase capacitor bank at the output terminals (delta-connected). How to size the capacitors? That depends on a few things. Namely what kind of loads are going to be attached to it. I presume this is going to be an emergency generator operating alone (most induction generators are used this way nowadays). In that case, your capacitor bank will need to account for the generator consuming reactive power and the loads consuming reactive power. So, if you know what you are going to connect to the generator, figure up an estimate of the total reactive power of your loads. Then estimate how much reactive power your generator consumes (not sure how to do this; maybe estimate from your 7.5kW and 9.4kVA ratings?). Finally, to size your capacitors equate the total power consumed by gen and loads to this formula: estimated_3phase_power_consumed 3*(line-to-line_volt)^2/X where X 1/(2*pi*freq*C) Solve for C and there you go. My source indicates that the output voltage for an induction generator can vary quite a bit with varying inductive load, so bear that in mind and maybe oversize the caps a bit. Also, the types of capacitors should be able to withstand AC obviously and be rated within your expected operating temp, etc, etc. Good luck.
Q: Im currently working on a DC generator design . I have my output set to 3000 kw . Any idea what's the usually assumed voltage for this rating ?
Voltage output of any generator (AC or DC) relies upon on the rpm and capability of the magnetic container. So various rpm and/or sterngth of magnetic container will variety the output voltage. be conscious that various rpm of the AC generator additionally changing the frequency of the generator output.
Q: I want to build an electric generator from an electric motor, how do I do this?I need planes on how to build a generator from an electric motor. I am wanted to use a 16 HP Power Diesel tractor motor. Can any one help? I am useing Diesel power because diesel fuel last longer than gas when in storage. Is this correct?I want a AC Generator.
With a permanent magnet DC motor (like from a battery powered toy) this will work fine. An AC motor is less likely to work, in normal operation the magnetic field that makes an AC motor work is produced by the electricity going into it, so if no power is going into it there is no magnetic filed to make it act as a generator, actually there might be a little stray magnetism or there are methods of getting it started with a pulse of external power, but the PM DC motor will be easiest . In short, yes you can use a motor for a generator but not just any motor
Q: Hi I'm going to start up an emergency AC generator driven by Diesel engine that generate 220+ VOLTS but I don't know what are the procedure to start up of an AC generatorand also what are the procedure to STOP the generator. please help :)
Is this generator going to be used in a location which is normally served by grid power. If so is it proposed to use the distribution system normally used when on the grid? If the answer to these questions is yes. The first step is to isolate the normal energy source. This has two purposes. a) to protect your equipment when power is restored and b) to protect people and equipment working on the external circuit. Once this is isolated wire the generator into the circuit (closing isolating switch if hard wired). Start the generator using normal procedures with minimal load in place. Slowly increase load until desired effect is achieved. When external power is returned. Slowly reduce load and isolate generator. Restore normal grid connection. Shut off generator.
Q: Hello, I am putting an HHO generator, which is metal plates in water in pvc pipe, into my small pickup truck. I am having a bit of trouble finding an EFIE unit though, which is the boy that goes in line in front of the 02 sensor, to give it a bit more juice and stop it from dumping more gas in when it thinks there is not enough air (but way too much HHO) in the system. Are there any automotive forums that you all would direct me to? And if not, are there any manufacturers of finished EFIE units, or even kits to build them, on the internet or elsewhere for me to utilize?I want to get this done before I leave for college. Gas prices suck!
The HHO generator is a scam. First of all, that little generator is not going to make enough hydrogen, efficiently enough to help your fuel economy. Second, hydrogen does not help your fuel economy. Hydrogen gas burns very differently than gasoline or diesel vapors. If you were going to try to run your internal combustion engine on hydrogen, you would have to modify it so much with such an unsatisfactory result that you'd be better off buying a purpose built hydrogen combustion engine. All the companies that sell the HHO generators only sell plans. There are no kits that I know of avaliable for purchase. In fact, this is one of the biggest clues that HHO is a scam. They only sell plans, that way if it doesn't work for you, they can always claim you made a mistake and that's why it doesn't work. Besides, you'll void your warrenty.
