- Q: can they be quiet? I was thinking about buying one sense we seem to have an outage every winter. Just wouldn't want to have an extremely loud generator running disturbing the neighbors
- not less than 50dbrunning up to 80db.very rough figures. If you have the money to spend they can be pretty quiet these days. And you can silence them more, even bury them if you do it right.
- Q: I heard about the reactor and could someone tell me the story and what could happen thx.
- The Nukelier chandelier has probably been reactivated to supply the needed power to the millions that will shrivel up because of the Nukelier fallout. Let 'em go happy!
- Q: How much power does the generator from the diesel need to produce in order to bring the train up to running speed?
- That all depends upon a number of things. First is the type of traction motor that is driving the wheels. Next is the weight of the entire load to be moved by the traction motors. Also is the grade the load is being moved upon. When a locomotive gets up to speed it might not be using many amps by the traction motors to maintain the speed. However, to start from a dead stop on flat track with a very heavy load it could run as high as 200 or more amps. Again, it also would depend upon the number of engines driving the number of generators driving the number of traction motors. A single locomotive might need to use more amps to get up to speed than a combination of locomotives hauling the same load. There are many variables to this question. Given a particular locomotive, types of traction motors, the load weight, it would be easier to calculate what would be needed in amperage. Everything depends upon all of these things. An engineer can burn up a traction motor(s) by exceeding the amount of amps maximum that the motor can handle. The generators don't care, nor do they figure into the problem. The diesels don't care either. They will just turn the generators faster with more RPM's, and the faster they run, the more the generators will produce, but will the traction motors handle what is given them?? It just depends .
- Q: Also would i be safe 20 miles away from the power station if any things happened. I am talking about the power station Dungeness B in Kent England. also if anything were to happen how long would i have to get out of the radius of the station.
- I used to work at a nuclear plant. Electricity is used to provide water to cool the fuel rods. If electricity goes out for any reason, backup diesel generators kick on to provide the power to run the pumps. A battery system would run the control instruments. Also if the diesel generators went out they would use a battery backup for that as well. The safe area would depend upon the type of plant and system used to cool the rods. Generally if there was a complete failure of all systems you would have one day to evacuate the area. At the plant I worked at a 20 mile radius was considered the unsafe zone. Much would depend upon the direction of the wind at the time of any release of radiation. If you are extremely worried you can buy some pills containing potassium iodide that you could take in an emergency to protect your thyroid temporarily. Most plants have built in security measures to prevent the release of radiation in case of a problem. Truthfully most reactors have a tower which releases small amounts of radiation at regular intervals. So chances are that you are already being exposed to very small harmless doses without knowing it. Radiation is normally not harmful unless you are close to it or you get a large dose. We are all exposed to some type of radiation daily. Radiation doesn't always kill. Sometimes it does nothing to your cells and occasionally it can even be beneficial to cells.
- Q: I really need to know to know this.@ two days old. my baby was subjected to a high level of diesel fumes coming in from the hospital vents. Due to testing of generators and backed up through vent. she was in the room roughly 30 minutes what kinda damage should I be concerned about. should I be concerned? how long would it stay in lungs and the blood? please if you know.thanks
- It depends on the size of the room and how quickly diesel fumes are being added. The gas would not say long in the blood and lungs although the damage would still be evident to a doctor doing a thorough exam. The two greatest concerns for you would be brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. Essentially when you're breathing in any kinds of fumes you are depriving your brain of oxygen while also subjecting your body to whatever poisons are in the fumes themselves. The second area of concern would be lung damage. The tissues would suffer as some of the fumes you are talking about could have an acidic component and could burn the lungs to some degree. Have your baby examined by a doctor and tell him your concerns.
- Q: I have 1500 kw load,i want install on Diesel Generator. What should be rating?
- Well, unless you're supplying a purely resistive load (nothing but filament lamps and radiant heaters -- no motors, transformers, switched-mode supplies or fluorescent lamps), you generally need a generator rated for about 1.2 to 1.5 times as many kVA as you have kilowatts. So in your case, a couple of megaVA.
- Q: Hello im going to be a mechanic and i will have a 1998 turbo diesel H1 Hummer. Now I wanted to know since the hummer is not like a bus or a really heavy Diesel equipment that i can work on it myself like a regular car or do i have to have to be a diesel mechanic to even work on it?
- Diesel engines are very similar to gasoline engines. If you have the technical knowledge to work on gasoline engines then the same principles applies to diesel engines as well. I know this is true because I took the course for auto/diesel automotive technician certification. I rebuilt them both along with carburetors, transmissions, starters, alternators, and generators. The only difference I can recall are that the diesel engines required more or less air than the gasoline engines. Of course diesel fuels burns much slower than gasoline. Therefore diesel engines might have additional mechanisms to produce or reduce the quantity of air. That is all.
- Q: I noticed how all the commuter trains here in Massachusetts use diesel engines. Will they switch to overhead lines in the not so distant future?
- Bombardier has come up with some new technology that will not require the ugly overhead power lines. Right now its being geared for trams and light rail. A box is buried underneath the track, and when the train passes over there is a surge of energy that gets passed to the train battery. A person can walk over the track and box, but they will not be affected. Right now the technology is not advanced enough for heavier trains. Massachusetts will probably go to a new dual mode locomotive by Bombardier thats being built right now in Kassel Germany. It has a pantograph on top for the power lines. When it comes to a line without power it uses diesel and battery. Its really a revolutionary locomotive that will be ready in 2011. New Jersey Transit has 28 on order with an option to buy almost 90 locomotives if it works out.
- Q: hello,i was wondering to buy a diesel generator for my commercial truck so am i allowed to pick it on my truck?
- My uncle has one on his truck. It is plumbed in to his fuel tank.
- Q: Hi. I need to buy a diesel generator to run my house on. We have to run at least 3 ACs at a time. The ACs consume roughly 1500W with a surge power of 4500W.Here's my question. If I get a 12KW rated generator, does that mean that each phase can only handle 4000 KW, therefore not even enough to start an AC? i was given this formula by a sales man KVASQRT3 X V X iCan you shed some light on this problem?Greetings from Iran
- Is the house wired 3 phase or split phase or single phase? Very few houses are wired for 3 phase power. Iran uses 230/240 VAC 50Hz So from that, you need a single phase 240 VAC 50 Hz generator. A 12 kW generator at 240 volts would supply 50 amps. I'd run that to a breaker panel (if you don't already have one) and then run 10 amp lines with a 10 amp breaker to each AC. That leaves you with quite a few amps to run other appliances. You got off on a 3 phase tangent for some reason you aren't telling, but I don't think that is the way you want to go. hope that helps. .
