- Of course diesel-fueled engine generators can be used a backup, i.e. standby or emergency power. They can also be used as prime power (on all the time). If you need to supply a single phase load, either use a single phase generator (only available for small loads), or use a larger three-phase generator and make sure it has a Y-grounded connection. Even better, get an electrician or electrical engineer to choose the right device for your system.

- I've done service work in areas after a hurricane, and I've seen a lot of units run off of generators. There's nothing wrong with it. Those systems are fairly hardy. But if the manufacturer says your warranty is at stake, you have to decide how much that warranty is worth to you.

- the reactors are right on the shore, the tsunami was right there. and yes it did wash over the plants. that's what caused the backup power to fail ! plus several fuel tanks washed away and water got in almost everywhere, however the containment units remained sealed, at least until the hydrogen steam pressure cracked them ! now the NRC reports there is radiation at deadly levels in the immediate area.japan is downplaying the crisis. and due to unconfirmed plutonium pollution, the area may be uninhabitable for 30,000 years or more ?

- I have NEVER SEEN a 50 KW generator that runs on GASOLINE anything that big will run on either Diesel or Propane or LNG and usually Diesel. You don't figure it in cost per KWH, anyway a 50 KW genset will probably be driven by at least a 100 HP cat and at 1800 RPM that would be about 10 to 12 Gallons per hour. or 288 to 300 gallons a day maybe more it would depend on a lot of things, like how old the diesel was and how heavily loaded the generator was.

Therefore, a mistake could cost 10% or more of the value of an auto company and put it closer to bankruptcy.

- Q: I am a programmer. And a engineer. Me and my team have been working on a project. Can't really put much detail in the project other than it needs to be powered by something heavy. This project consists of land and air activity so it is a electricity killer. We have tried a very heave battery and charger_ failed. Gasoline isn't an option in this case. We have tested many forms of electricity- but non seem reliant. It's been about 3 months since we have tried. Any ideas? Or should we just give up.

- It's best to connect them at the crank so that they can be timed to fire in a manner that your getting the most amount of power you can. This has been done in applications as small as a .12cc engine all the way up to huge engines that power large ships. The most common place I used to see it is with gas engines for tractor pull. The engines do sync up and will run together when you pair them up thru a clutch
