- Q: I've been noticing a difference in the temperature gage lately. The quot;change oillight has also been coming on and I just had an oil change not even a month ago, and the car isn't even due back for at least another month. I noticed there's a green/blue liquid in my driveway today, too. I looked under the car and something is leaking or dripping around the passengers side front wheel. More so the passenger-middle side. I've been told it could be the water pump.
- Don't go blowing cash on a water pump just yet; It may be just a leaking radiator or heater hose. It would be wise to change the thermostat and check the condition of the coolant. (right here before summer) Perhaps pressure test the cooling system...that will tell you right away if the impeller seal is bad in the water pump. Check the radiator hoses at that time... replace as necessary. if your (assumed) coolant leak is right around the passenger front wheel the pressure test could possibly reveal a freeze plug leak. (replacement required to fix that) The labor will cost around $150 plus/minus $20.-and thats not even a good guess. I tell you this: if you were in my circle of friends, I would do it for nothing: Thats what people do for each other. Anybody that knows you that has the tools and ability should do the same... Try this: if you have your oil changed at a quick lube, ask the manager which one of his guys would be qualified for such a sidejob... any gearhead will jump at he chance to help a lady out make sure the job is done right instead of some greasemonkey f*cking it up. It will cost you much less than standard labor rate and the extra coinage in his pocket doesn't hurt. I'm not bagging repair shops, they deserve to make a living too, but every nickle counts nowdays... Let him diagnose the problem(s), take him to Oreilleys to make sure you get the right parts, and buy him lunch..... Enjoy your summer...an overheated car and related repairs will turn it sour in a hurry. (edit) wow,... if you have the dexcool, then yes thats orange. There's not anything on that side of the vehicle that would be that color. short of discolored and moldy a/c condensation (highly unlikely) if its brake fluid you would know it by now. power steering is red or clear, Even though I consider myself highly experienced, I'm stumped.
- Q: Car is ford taurus 98.The car had some problems including overheating as thermostat was bad so was was not working. i drove it 25 miles to garage (i had to stop once because too hot to let it cool), i brought it to Ford who replaced the thermostat. Now they tell me some bits of thermostat broke and they need to replace the waterpump and want $620 for it. The other repair were also extremely expensive and i want to bring it to another garage 1.3 miles away on flat road.-1- is it safe to drive 1.3 mile with no water pump or should iget it towed?-2- should i have to pay for the water pump or is it ford's fault if they did not remove the bits of broken thermostat before reconnecting new thermostat to hose ? Can i prove that the pump was working when i came in if i drove 25 miles with it ?Thanks for your help.
- Ford people are boneheads for making you pay for something THEY broke. And what does the thermostat breaking have to do with the water pump? All they want to do is suck you in for every penny. All services are warrantied for X months/X miles. If they broke it, they are responsible for it. As for driving 1.3 miles without a coolant, I would not reccomend it unless you wanna cook eggs on your engine. Seriously though, You'll do more damage to the engine running without a coolant. Then you'll need new pistons, fry the oil in the engine and probably need a whole new engine. Have it towed, it's cheaper in the long run. Don't take it to Ford ever again. They're sufering and in the red, they need to make money some way, screwing people is the way to go.
- Q: Hello everyone, is the general household deep well pump capacitor how to pick up ah, 220V voltage, a capacitor, capacitor, there are 2 lines, but the motor is 3 lines, how can I put these 7 lines together?.Please don't copy professional theories from others.
- 1) in a line in the AC220V string into a large light bulb (Bai Chideng), and then the capacitor as shown in figure A, then, that B and C are three terminals; 2) the number of pump motor three lines 1, 2 and 3; 3) A, B, C and 1 2, 3, a total of six kinds of wiring combination: ABC/123, ABC/ 231, ABC/321, ABC213, ABC132 ABC312; 4) you have a a try, if you can turn up, and the fastest start wiring is correct, 5) if not turn up, you have to increase the number of watt bulb, such as 200 watts, 300 watts, 500 watts...... With a few 100 watt parallel one; 6) string into the bulb is designed to prevent the current is too large, it certainly must be removed after determining the connection method; 7) there is no suitable bulb that according to the motor power generation to choose the appropriate insurance.
- Q: The single-phase water pump in the house is out of order. After opening the power supply, the motor can not start by itself. It is necessary to turn the shaft clockwise by hand. Then, what is the problem? How can I solve it? Thank you
- Is your starting capacitor pump is broken. Because you pump it is a single asynchronous motor..... Single-phase asynchronous motor by capacitive phase shifting function, the single-phase alternating current isolated from another 90 degree phase alternating current. The two alternating current into two groups or four groups of motor winding, forming a rotating magnetic field inside the motor rotating magnetic field induced current in the rotor, the induced current magnetic field and rotating magnetic field in the opposite direction, by rotating magnetic field push pull into the rotating state, because the rotor must be cutting magnetic lines to produce induction current, so the rotor speed must be lower than the rotating magnetic induction motor speed, so thatSo if the starting capacitor is broken, then your pump will start difficult,
- Q: I have a new water pump with its new gasket to be installed tomorrow. Do I still need to apply a gasket sealer (blue RTV silicone) on the gasket itself? If I do, do I need to apply it on both sides of the gasket? Thank you.
- We need to know year make model and the type of gasket. Its getting pretty rare to need any sort of sealer on gaskets anymore. If they still require a gasket the sealer is often part of the gasket. These look like regular gaskets but have a blue or orange line manufactured right into them that acts like the RTV did in the old days. For some reasons parts store still have and try to sell you the regular gasket but often if you ask they will have a better one with the built in sealer. For something like a thermostat it takes you from a $2 to a $3 gasket. Many makes now use something that looks more like an o-ring in a groove rather than a gasket now.
- Q: Mercedes 2000 ml 320. I changed radiator and water pump now car only runs half as worm than it used to. So now heat blows cold to little warm depending on how cold out side
- I don't mean to be a cheak but did you put all the pipes back where they should be and did you put the thermostat back in?
- Q: We had to have our well pump replaced yesterday, how long before the well settles down, and the water tastes like it used to?The company who replaced the pump told us when changing a pump it disturbs the well, and it would take time for everything to settle back into place. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.
- It will take a few days, you need to get a filtration system installed too. No matter what you need good filters in your pump house.
- Q: Plumber quotes installing system using cross-over valve which some way ties the recirculation through the cold water pipes. This sounds like a short-cut. Are there any disadvantages to this system?
- not sure what you are building or designing, city water or well water or truck tanker delivered water, water boiler for heat is common or isolated with shared heat for hot drinking water or there is a separately heated water heater, inexpensive unlimited water or inexpensive gas or oil are all design factors for plumbing. add-on pumps can improve water pressure or shorten the time it takes to get hot water at the tap or shower.
- Q: 2001 buick centurywater runs down at area of crank shaft
- on the very bottom of the pump there is a weep hole. This leaks the coolant once the pump bearing seal deteriorates and pours coolant over the area of the crankshaft...gl
- Q: 99 Cherokee I6. There is low pitched noise coming from the area of the water pump and alternator. Like a grinding grumbling. The water pump pulley is not loose and will not rock back and forth. Nothing is leaking. Tomorrow is forecast as icey and I have a choice of sending my wife 30 miles each way to work in the Cherokee or a 2005 Mustang, which is absolutely terrible in the snow or ice. I can get the car into the shop on Thursday for diagnosis and repair. Since the pulley is not loose I am thinking it will be OK for another day even if it is the water pump bearings. Thoughts?
- nothing is leaking. you're not even sure, positively that the water pump is the culprit. I learned something last week, that if you spray wd40 on the offending pulley it will silence it. The other pulleys of course will not be affected.
