- Q: So my daughter's car is an 02 Accord manual with about 127k miles. It's making a squeaky noise which apparently is the belts. The dealer says they're too tight, but are in okay condition. They want to change the water pump and adjust the belts for $750. This seems a bit steep to me. Does the water pump need to be changed if it's working properly? How much should it cost to adjust the belts? I'm thinking she should find a more reasonable shop. What are your thoughts?
- First taking a 14 year old vehicle to the dealership is not really necessary but it's your choice. If there talking about the timing belt then it is a expensive repair anywhere from $600-$1000 and it needs to be replaced to prevent it from breaking and causing the engine to destroy itself. If that is the case then the water pump also needs to be replaced since it's driven by the timing belt and in the same access point. There is a possibility that there talking about a serpentine belt that turns the accessories such as the alternator, ac compressor, but on that Honda I think there talking about the Timing belt.
- Q: A guy i know changed the Water pump on my 02 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 in it because it was leaking coolant, when i got it back the leak was fixed but now there is a ticking noise. He thinks that the Timing Chain Tensioner needs to be replaced... can i get some opinions here? does he sound correct?
- Sounds like he's ripping you off.
- Q: I own a Camaro 1995 V6 3.4L automatic, it was diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and I was going to take it in on Saturday 3/1/08. But this morning I drove it and it seem that the car is losing power the RPM goes all up to 4-5 thousand to make a speed change. The car seems to stall like if it gets stuck the RPM goes up and eventually the next speed kicks in. I will be taking the car in tomorrow 2/27/08 to see whats wrong but I was hoping maybe someone knows whats wrong so that I can have an idea before someone tries to take advantage of me. I do know that the car started leaking water/coolant more than before after that little drive in the morning. The car is very well kept oil change is always on time .I always make sure that the water and the oil is level. transmission fluids are clean. I do know that the EGR Valve needs to be replaced. (hope this info helps)thank you
- if you dont have coolant in your car then it wont run right not to mention damage the engine
- Q: I've always wondered how a water pump moves water through a pipe. A fan moves air by spinning a propeller-like set of blades, but does a water pump work the same way? Or is there some other kind of mechanism inside the pump that draws water from one place and pushes it to another?
- There are different types of pumps. The type most commonly used to pump water is the centrifugal pump, which operates pretty much the same way an air fan propels air. Additionally, a centrifugal water pump uses a volute or chamber that surrounds the impellor or the blades to direct the flow of the water, converting the flow energy that it imparts to the water into pressure energy.
- Q: There is no water at all! What can we do to troubleshoot this before calling a Plumber? This is the first time this has happened and we never had a well before. Please help (serious answers only)
- It's not your water heater. It's not the thermostat. Check that the circuit breaker or fuse to the well is not off or tripped. (If it is a circuit breaker, turn it all the way off firmly and then back on.) If it was tripped, it probably tripped for a reason and you'll eventually have to find the reason. If the circuit breaker is not tripped and/or fuses aren't blown, there may be a problem with the pressure switch which is the device that turns the pump on and off in response to water pressure. Not something amateurs should fool around with.
- Q: Is it normal for my sump pump hole to be empty. No water in there.. ??
- If you have had a dry spell or live on the top of a hill, the water table will be lower. A dry sump is normal. If on the other hand there is wet ground around the outside of your basement walls, then you have a drainage problem. The water is not reaching your weeping tiles. Get someone to dig down to the tiles and cover them with your municipality's recommended level of gravel/sand
- Q: OK i was driving and i noticed the gas pedal wouldn't really work and people were telling me to move so right away i moved to the side of the road and got my car towed home. a couple details are that there was smoke coming out of the hood, don't know what part of the engine though.there was not much water in the water pump. my dad thinks that the problem was it was leaking the water.the car turns on ac works it just shakes when it turn on the motor no condition to drive it obviously but it does take a little time to start the engine. i want to know if anyone knows what may be the problem and about how much it may cost.ohh btw this car model is a 1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2 door.thank you!
- did u get a mechanic to do it? or do it your self? in case you had a mechanic do it, ask them to repair it in case you had no problems earlier. must be thermostat, must be you dont have adequate coolant in radiator or perhaps suitable coolant to water ratio. All i understand is you need to bleed out the radiator to eliminate all air after water pump is taken off and placed lower back on, because would reason problems aswell. ok nicely you only as much as date it, so i'm too, your mechanic sounds like a dumb ****, he ought to have bled air out of radiator, the actuality he instructed you is weird and wonderful, ought to have fixed it then and there. that is a vital step of adjusting water pump. If there is air in it, your radiator and water pump wont be rotating the water wonderful. tell him to repair it and say you probably did your analyze and you're actually not paying yet another cent!
- Q: Was able to remove all bolts except the one in the rear of engine one of the bigger bolts the pulley from the serpentine belt blocks itdoes the pulley need to be removed and if yes then how
- yes you,ll probably have to remove the pulley from it to get to all of them,i usually remove the pulley first anyway ,this makes it a lot easier to do ,but you should be able to get to the bolt after the pulley is off, good luck i hope this help,s.
- Q: 99 Cherokee I6. There is low pitched noise coming from the area of the water pump and alternator. Like a grinding grumbling. The water pump pulley is not loose and will not rock back and forth. Nothing is leaking. Tomorrow is forecast as icey and I have a choice of sending my wife 30 miles each way to work in the Cherokee or a 2005 Mustang, which is absolutely terrible in the snow or ice. I can get the car into the shop on Thursday for diagnosis and repair. Since the pulley is not loose I am thinking it will be OK for another day even if it is the water pump bearings. Thoughts?
- I continue to be amazed at the poor advice offered on this site. Water pump bearings are sealed and therefore not able to be lubricated. Please do not add oil to your cooling system as you will contaminate your cooling system. While it is true that spraying WD-40 on the pulley will quiet the noise IF IT WAS A BELT NOISE!! And yes it will effect the other pullies since this vehicle most likely has a serpentine belt. If you can, pull the serpentine belt off and spin each pulley to determine which one is making the noise. If it cannot be detected this way, use a long screwdriver or other piece of long, thin metal and place it close to each pulley. this will tell you which one it is. If it is the water pump, or alternator, it will most likely be safe to wait for a couple of days to get it serviced. I would keep the Mustang in the garage and send her in the Jeep. Just don't wait much longer to get it serviced.
- Q: is there a water pump capable to pump up to 1/4 of an inchsand from 90' deep well?
- If the sand is suspended in the water then yes there are pumps that will pump it. Other wise no.
