- it depends mainly on the gaskets you are using whether or not they are paper type gaskets or rubber type gaskets or cork type some cars have only sealant and no gaskets most rubber gaskets don't need sealant some install it anyway for extra protection but to much sealant it could clog your cooling system if they are paper type gaskets a little sealant is added protection some mechanics put sealant on the gasket simply to hold it in place during the install some gaskets require sealant and a specific one at that there are many different types of sealant keep in mind if your gasket manufacture requires sealants to install its would be listed on the box it arrives in for the pre installation guides make sure you get the one they say also all sealant that dry some are wet sealants and never dry, keep in mine that if the sealant requires dry time after install you follow those guide lines otherwise it will leak keep in mind also that the water pump housing bolts have a specific install and tightening and torque down for that type of gaskets like 15 foot pounds on the bolts for cork type gaskets if you crank the bolts down to tight its going to split the gaskets and your back to square one replacing it again

- Depends on the type of pump, but for your garden variety type pump, there is a impeller of some sort that is turned by the motor to pump the water. The actual shaft of the motor is not in contact with the water (except where the impeller is attached to the shaft). A common type of failure mode here is when the seals on the shaft (which keep the water contained to the impeller area) have failed and water has gotten past the shaft seal and degraded the bearings holding the shaft = seizing up.

- I had a 98 civic I did one on... The water pump runs off of the timing belt, so yea its a lot of work. You are going to have to remove an engine mount (pass side) support the engine with a jack and remove alot of the covers on the passenger side of the engine. I would suggest you get a repair manual at the auto parts store, probably the best $20 you'll spend (and more then I can cover here). Since you are in there, I would do the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner. Be careful not to turn the overhead camshaft when you have everything apart or you will have to set your cam timing again. Good luck, its probably a 7 out of 10.

- yep........... your car has a 3100 or 3800 engine.... more than likley the intake gaskets are bad... take it to the shop and have it checked out..... this is a very common problem for these engines......dont listen to these other idiots they dont have a clue.....waterpump housing.....thats bullshiit

- Q: ok im ready to install my new water pump but it has to gasket in the package i no where one goes it shapes to the water pump but i dont no if the other one is used, and also where does the o ring go in the big hole in the center does it have to be pushed down into a seem or something and do the to out side holes need o rings as well, and does the hermonic balancer seal need to b replaced
- The water pump should come off the block with 4 bolts, the gasket goes between the body and rear plate. The o- ring fits onto the transfer tube that travels between the valley of the block. Add a little lube to it to make installing the pump and cover easier. The lower t belt gear should slide off easily, if not a bit of heat may help, careful not to break the oil pump (front end of block). The upper cam gears are best loosened slightly while the belt is still installed. If not try slipping the old belt over the gear and holding the outside of the gear/ the belt. Air tools may be required due to torque required.
- Q: I have gotten oil in my coolant, and coolant in my oil..It might be the head gasket, no doubt, but many people said (online forums) that my bike, has issues with the seal that is separating oil pump from water pump. They go bad, and when they do, the oil mixes with coolant and vise versa. Now, I am seeking from professional help, on how to take out both of the pumps, without messing up timing, and also without messing up anything else. I have removed the entire exhaust system, dropped the oil pan, and i can see the oil/water pump pretty good. What i do not know is how to remove it properly. - Q: I would like to know that a water pump or water motor which is of 1 hp what is the height from which it can pull water ? And also if there is a bubbling sound of air and no water is being supplied what does it mean ?
- I will 'clarify' the question, then respond----- If you have a 1HP motor connected to a water pump,; what is its lifting capability ? (like raising the water UP from a well)... At or neat 'sea level', the very ideal (perfect) pump can lift water UP from 33 feet below. To be practical, considering in-efficiencies(losses) you should plan for about 25 feet of lift. Gurgling or bubbling of air/water is a good sign that the pump can not generate the vaccum-seal to begin the flow of water(priming process). You need to provide a way to prime the pump. To prime the pump, you need to supply a flow of water INTO the pump as it is running(water must be running backward into the well, then the pump will initiate the lifting process. To prevent the need to prime the pump everytime that you turn it on, you should put a check valve at the INTAKE orifice (the very end that sticks in the well). This will hold the column of water in the pipe; preventing it from running back into the well. (A check valve allows fluid to flow in one direction only....this must be connected such that the water can only flow UPWARD, out of the well. Good luck.....if you need further assistance, do email with more pump detail/specs. Make sure that the pump is rotating in the correct direction......
