How a Pump Works

The pump is driven by an AC or DC motor

In front of the motor is a valve assembly containing two to five valve pump chambers. Each valve chamber has a diaphragm behind it in the lower pump housing. As the motor shaft turns, an internal cam positioned behind the diaphragms causes the diaphragms to be pushed forward, then back in a continuous sequence creating a suction. As this suction builds, fluid is pulled hrough the inlet, through the various valve chamber check valves to the outlet he volume of flow is determined by several factors including: the number and size of the pump chambers, cam offset, operating pressure, fluid viscosity.

Q:hiI have very low pressure only on the hot water in my kitchen sink. Cold water is fine. Can anyone recommend a water pump/power shower i can use for boosting my hot water in the kitchen sink tap?Ive already tested the faucet by swapping the water supplies.thanks
Your hot and cold water should be at equal pressures. I suspect you have a restriction in your hot water supply, possibly the under the sink shut off or is semi closed or the hot water tank main shutoff is partially shut off…or the hot water system is clogged somewhere.
Q:First the shop put in a heater core, but it was still leaking and overheating. Next they put in a water pump. Went to get it and now it wines really loud and the engine use to purr like a kitten, couldn't even tell it was running, now the engine shakes the whole car and it died one the way home but started again. The shop said the cam positioning needs reset again and on the way back to the shop it died again. So from leaking anti-freeze to now it vibrates, dies and wines really loud ! Any ideas what they did wrong ?
Yea, this engine has the water pump that is driven off of the timing Chain, before removing the pump you have to install a holding tool to keep the timing gears synchronized, If the pump is removed first without installing the tool, the camshaft timing will be out of sync. and that's what probably happened. NOTE: This sounds like an unqualified shop to work on vehicles, if they can't trace a coolant leak! The first thing that should have been done is a CO2 test on the cooling system to see if the vehicle has any hidden head gasket issues. (Good luck)
Q:My water pump is sitting very close if not rubbing against the case. There were shavings and a groove. Would this cause it to knock? Also would this blow up the lower end? One more, Should it be in the center or offset twards the top?
Perhaps one of the shaft's retainers, the bearing, or gear is worn, allowing the water pump shaft to move in and out of the case - causing the impeller to rub on the outer cover. Try to pull the water pump out and push it in - there shouldn't be any play. If there is, figure out why. If the impeller can move in and out, that would cause it to knock. If there were any metal shavings in the coolant, they would scrape the outer cover. The water pump cover isn't an even shape, so I don't know what you mean by should it be in the center The bottom end and the cooling system are 2 separate entities. A problem with one will not affect the other.
Q:old sbc v8 water pump from oreilly's came apart and the fan ate up my serpentine belt, power steering pump pulley, clutch fan obviously, and put 5 holes in my new aluminum radiator. What will they cover? Remanufactured limited lifetime warranty. '78 chevy k10 350 sbc
In concurring with ART WARRINGTON, a mechanic's professional determination will speak for you. To add, make sure you take the vehicle to a well-known and respected repairshop, like the dealer. However, it won't be O'Reilly that covers the final cost, if things work out in your favor. It will be the manufacturer of the part and O'Reilly might become your middleman again for parts. One thing is for certain: no money is going to enter into your hands. This process will go faster especially if you do not make demands for such. In arguing your case, though, you are going to be limited since you have to secure other means of travel now if none are at your immediate grasp. Also, small claims court generally handles claims up to $1,500. This sounds like the repair will be more than that. In terms of a free claim, I have not the experience there. Keep in mind that a lawyer will not be. ~~~~~~~~ If, for some reason, they require your automobile insurance information, I'm out as far as advice. For that I would, just to be safe, get with your insurance company beforehand and ask them questions. They would be a great non-biased thrid party for advice. May I offer my condolences that you have to go through all of this..
Q:I have a 1999 Volkswagen Passat and the water pump seems to be leaking. The lower radiator hose has been replaced but it still leaks a fairly substantial amount. From what I can tell the pump is still doing its job but I'm losing coolant. Is there a way I can determine if i just need a new gasket or a new pump altogether without ripping the front end off? Any feedback is appreciated.
The coolant can leak from the hoses, the core or pump. You can detect these external leaks from proper visual inspection (a mechanic) or a pressure test. If it still isn’t found then it’s the head gasket.
Q:What's a small soft pipe for a submersible pump in a fish bowl? How do you use it?
The little air hose is had to pump in pump operation, to play the role of oxygen, generally want to let the oxygen hose head above the water, or to go into the air, and lose the function of oxygen, if the tank is large enough, every day to open the filter pump. Use hose plus oxygen does not matter.
Q:have a leak in water pump and need to replace. It is easy or very hard
the basic garage man can replace it but becareful the timing belt runs the water pump on the car so good luck on that
Q:Pump house should be equipped with those equipment and valves
1. The inlet and outlet of the pump shall be equipped with a control valve, and the outlet shall be equipped with a check valve;2, lower than the pump suction the water tank, water pump entrance to bottom valve, and piping and valves equipped with irrigation. Or equipped with other water pump irrigation facilities.3, more than one pump system should have the total valve and contact valve.4, the corresponding control equipment.

Q:We have fresh running water..no well... We just want to install it on our playground for the kids to experience a manual water pump. Can it be attached to running water? Do I need a tank? Help! Thank YOU!
Go okorder before you do anything serious or the local health department. This could be opening up a whole new avenue of new lawsuits and illnesses to you and those around you, check first. My daughter drank some water out of a free flowing well, well she was plowing a field recently, she contracted a parasite that almost killed here, one that only comes from birds that drops it's feces while drinking at a water supply. Some states require drinking water to have a cement barrier 18 inches thick and three feet wide around it. Sorry.
