How a Pump Works
The pump is driven by an AC or DC motor
In front of the motor is a valve assembly containing two to five valve pump chambers. Each valve chamber has a diaphragm behind it in the lower pump housing. As the motor shaft turns, an internal cam positioned behind the diaphragms causes the diaphragms to be pushed forward, then back in a continuous sequence creating a suction. As this suction builds, fluid is pulled hrough the inlet, through the various valve chamber check valves to the outlet he volume of flow is determined by several factors including: the number and size of the pump chambers,cam offset, operating pressure, fluid viscosity.

- Q: I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I have been leaking coolant for a few days now and there is a puddle under my Jeep after I turn it off and my reserve tank keeps emptying out on me. I replaced the lower radiator hose and still the same problem. It is not over heating so I am wondering if it IS a water pump problem? If it is, could I do the work myself?

- water pump are kind of difficult to replace you have to remove several parts to get to it. specially if is your uncle first time. my recommendation is if you want to do it yourself to save money, have some one (family member)that did it before, just in case. go to source i will post instructions look at Table of Contents or go all the way on the bottom of the page good luck
- Q: Im having a hell of a time getting the water pumps to work, even when located right next to a water source (i.e. river, lake, ocean, etc). Ive tried various locations and it has never worked for me. ive made sure the game isnt paused and that the pump has power but nothing works. its not as simple to use as the water pumps in the previous sim city games. Can anyone give me a hint? ive been looking everywhere for a definitive answer.
- I think it might be a glitch in the game. I'm having the same problem and I've looked around the net and found others with the same problem. I also had problems getting the power to work, but found if I exited the game and started it again I would magically have power. It hasn't work for the water though but you can give it a shot. I deleted the game and reinstalled and that did not help either. NEVERMIND. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS HIT PLAY AND WHEN PEOPLE COME THE WATER WILL PUMP!
- Q: Hello,Thanks for looking into my question. I am a little confused on the definition of a submersible water pump. I am assuming that they are actually submerged but that sounds a bit unlikely in my mind. I suppose if it has a GFCI setup built in with everything sealed beyond the portion that pumps, it would work submerged without any risks involved.Are submersible water pumps meant to be fully submerged? I am mainly interested in this information because I am concerned about the amount of noise they make, being submerged seems likely that they would not be able to be heard. Thanks.
- This type of pump is designed to run under water and when submerged will make little noise.

- Q: I've bleed the lines, and gotten rid of all the air bubbles. I've replaced the thermostat correctly, (triple checked) and I don't think it's the water pump because it isn't leaking what so ever. My temperature gauge is not moving what so ever, and the coolant reservoir over flows heavily, and I can hear a thumping sound in the radiator.
- Flush out the radiator.. check to confirm a bhg with a compression test.
- Q: Is this a symptom of a bigger problem or do I just need to replace the water pump?
- either the water pump gasket is leaking, or the water pump impeller seal is leaking. bith can be fixed by replacing the water pump. after replacement make sure to check for any other leaks.
