- Q: Water pumps are always pumping water, what's the matter?
- Is the self-priming pump, not the self-priming pump, the actual suction is too large? How much is the water pump voltage?Inlet pipe leak
- Q: i want to make this for a physics project for school. i found a video on how to make it, but i dont understand the physics behind. i have to make a model and a poster explaining the physics. i dont understand what to put on the poster so could someone help me with which physics principles this project would go with?
- It isn't practical to give a detailed description here. This is a positive displacement pump. The pump chamber is sealed so that as the piston is moved up the volume within the chamber increases. Water is pushed into this chamber by the outside air pressure. If the pump is located too far above the water source then the air pressure is not sufficient and you will produce a vacuum inside but the water still will not flow. When the pump is pushed down the water flows out. Now the one way valves are critical. We don't want the water to flow back the way it came and we don't want the water that we have already pumped to flow back into the pump. So a one way valve on the inlet will permit water to flow into the pump but not out of it. And a one way valve on the outlet will permit water to flow OUT of the pump but not into it. So with each stroke you a) reduce the pressure in the pump. b) water is forced from the inlet, past its one way valve and then into the pump. c) the pump is pushed down increasing the pressure in the pump. d) water flows out of the pump through the other one way valve and on to the output.
- Q: I was driving when my temp gauge shot up all the way so i pulled off the next exit and my car shut off and started smoking i noticed the water pump belt was in shreds and what seemed to be anti freeze fluid and water was everywhere. I'm curious what could have broke maybe a gasket or the waterpump it's self besides just the belt?
- It seems to be a water pump failure, unfortunately that kind of failure is unpredictable and can easily sneak up on you. What happens is the pump fails and then the belt gets literally gets burnt off, this issue can be a cascade failure because the excessive engine heat can cause a number of COSTLY internal engine problems because aluminum engine blocks these days can't handle prolonged excessive heat. Hopefully not in your case, but just to give you an idea of the issue and everything surrounding it. The cost to repair at a shop can run anywhere from 200$ to 600$ depending on where you take it, you can do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined but i suggest a professional because they can also further detect any damage that the pump failure may have caused.
- Q: i have a jetta and would like to know how difficult it would be to do. I know its a german car this is why i ask. thanks
- The water pump is driven by the timing belt on that engine. You don't have to take the alternator, power steering pump, or the a/c compressor off, but you do have to make sure it is timed right. Not too hard to do, just make sure the marks line up. Good luck!
- Q: I posted this earlier but nobody really answered my question . if my water pump is clearly on the serpentine belt I t need to replace the timing chain to get to it correct? The bolts holding the pump in are around it near the timing chain cover but they don't look like they are inside it. the pump is clearly driven by the serpentine so should I be fine not removing my timing belt to fix the pump? its leaking. Also I know you should replace the timing chain+tensioner but I inspected the chain 400 miles ago its properly tensioned the belt is in good condition its a chain it will last the life of the car its not the cheap belts.
- Are you forgetting to mention something? Ah! Year, Make and Model. Engine size is a plus ... only a fool who knows nothing will answer your question without knowing the at least needed to know information ... What do you mean: if my water pump is clearly on the serpentine belt I t need to replace the timing chain to get to it correct? You've said: Timing chain and yet, the first answer by You may be right said: If you can change the pump without removing the timing belt then go for it, you are lucky. See what has happened when the needed to know information were not specified? .. and how do you expect any of us to know the question you have mentioned before and could not read your history in YA? I've rest my case ...
- Q: About 2 months ago I started hearing a noise coming from my bathroom that sounded like loud humming every 3 or 4 seconds after I would turn on the water or flush the toilet. I noticed that when this noise happened the water pressure would increase and then it would go back to normal. Then the noise started to get louder. Last night while my husband was taking a shower the water lost pressure and then completely turned off. Now I have no water at all whatsoever except for maybe a few drops when I turn the faucet on. I have a private well and when I bought the house I was told that the well is underneath one of my bedrooms because the house was built on to and they built over the well. I know I can get to the pump from the crawl space. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know what it might be or maybe even how much it could cost to fix?
- I am currently experiencing something similar. Our pump started making a loud noise like you mention. I had a plumber come out who works will well pumps and he told me it was a bad bearing in the pump (we has a deep well jet pump, the pump is on the surface). He also told me it could stop working in a day or a week or a month, no way to tell. So we bought a used and fixed up pump, hired a plumber to put it in this past Monday. Everything was working fine, until this morning (Thursday) I wake up to find that we have no water, not even a trickle. Trying to get a plumber back out here today. From what I can surmise from phone calls, it looks like it MAY be the pressure switch. In any event, it is most likely something electrical. If it was the submersed part of the pump, the pump would be turning on as if to work, and you'd have no water, or the pump would run all the time with little or no water. When we bought the fixed up pump it was $200 (they are $500 brand new). The plumber charged us $200 to put it in.
- Q: Water pump maintenance what should be maintained?
- 1 by sound to determine whether the bearing is good. If the sound is abnormal, replace the bearing.2, check whether the impeller is worn, if worn, will affect the flow, lift, efficiency, need to be replaced.3, check whether the mechanical seal can continue to use, can not be used, need to be replaced4, check the oil tank is missing oil, such as lack of oil to the appropriate location.
- Q: my water pump is leaking how do i change it out
- Pull your belts off and the fan, clutch assembly if there is one. Undo those eight or so bolts that hold the pump on and swap it for a new one. Drain the coolant first or you'll have a mess on your hands. You don't always have to remove the radiator but sometimes that gives you more clearance to work with.
- Q: In this area (picture) its leaking quite a bit of coolant underneath the car it is heavy dripping. Could it be the water pump? Car is over heating .It almost looks like its missing a screw or something where the coolant is dripping.
- Looks like it needs a thorough coolant flush and a water pump.
- Q: I have a bad water pump on my golf gti.Engine is 2.0L. I just would like to know how hard is it to do it myself. And also is there some special tools that I need. How much time usually takes to get this done? Thank you
- It's about like changing a timing belt. You might as well change the timing belt while you are in there. The water pump is driven by the belt. Get a manual like a Chilton and read it over and over again till you almost have it memorized if you are serious about this. You can usually look at a manual at a library free of charge. You can also copy the part you want on a copy machine. There are also online manuals. You might not want to do it after you read the procedure. If you haven't done it before it will probably take you all day. Be sure to have some band aides for your knuckles. As far as tools go, the VW engineers love allen head bolts. Don't try to use a allen wrench though, get some allen sockets that you put on your rachet.
