Q: considering how many outlets are on a car wiring harness.
The answer is no! A bulb is needed to complete the circuit similar to a switch being turned off. The voltage is present but can go nowhere! However if something conductive to electricity falls into the empty socket (like a bare wire or other metal) then an electrical short would occur causing stray voltage and a tripped fuse!
Q: I just got an 05 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab and I want to put my headunit into this car. I have an Alpine CDA-9884. The wiring harness that crutchfield recommends includes the chime and is $80. I dont care about the chime and I just want to buy the cheapest one that is compatible with my car. Can someone send me a link to an adapter that will work fine? Preferably one with an actual store that I could buy it in instead of ordering online. Thanks!
Well i was gonna link u a cheaper Wire harness ONLINE but u dont want online. You can find a harness just about for 20 bucks or so at a Audioshop. Just find ur Make and yr of car. waalah
Q: Current wiring harness has a two wire plug for a sensing circuit but the new alternator does not have a provision for connecting the plug. One of the wires goes to the ignition switch and the other to the alternator lamp on the dash.
Check voltage between both wires with the original alternator and the engine running as well as stopped (but key on). my guess is the original alternator closes the circuit between the positive (coming from ignition key) and lamp. As for the replacement alternator my guess is it supplies ground from its only connector when the lamp should be lit (please measure it with voltmeter!). If my theory is correct you should wire a relay in the middle to allow the lamp to be lit, since you need a positive for the lamp.
Q: i recently bought a JVC head unit for my cavalier and it came with free instalation gear that included a wiring harness (Scosche GM02B / GM02) am i just supposed to connect the matcing wires from my recievers wiring harness to this one? what should i use for the connection?
Usually, the colors of the wires will match up. You should check the manual for the deck, as well as the diagram included with the wiring harness to make sure the wires match by function. The ideal way to connect the wires is with solder. You could use crimpers also. What I've done in the past is strip the wires about 1/2 and twist them together real tight, works best with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and cover each connection with electrical tape. It's worked on 5 installs I've done, so it must hold up pretty welll.
Q: Basically over about a four month period the radio/cd player in my truck was going on and off. It would work sometimes randomly, but now it is completely dead. I changed all the fuses and that isn't where the issue is. I have the original radio and I don't really want to replace it. I feel like if the fault were in the radio itself, it would have simply gone dead and not worked. I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone has any advice about what the cause could be? The truck itself is 17 years old, so it's a possibility that over time a wire came loose, or even for the radio to die. It came with a 5 cd changer that is in the cab, and I noticed at the very beginning before it starting cutting on and off that it would say that it couldn't read cd's. That was probably a few days prior, and then when the radio did actually work, the same problem persisted. What do you think the problem is?
I use a Multi-Tester (Volt-OHM-AMP) meter. I check each wire--for continuity. I also decide on the ground.(common ground).or a direct ground at the 12-volt battery./ I like to use a direct wire--from the 12-volt battery./with a in-line fuse/ I most times use the cigaretter/plug-in as my ground point./ Or I even run a ground wire back to the 12-volt battery./ The radio may have been running hot.and you placed wires at a terrible location./ (re-check the installation) If this is a automobile application--the 5 disk CD Player--will have Shock/detection/protection. Or.you may only be able to use store bought--CD's. NOT--ones you made on your computer. Try that. See if store bought CD's work better./ Most radio applications have fuses--that are very difficult to inspect--without a magnifying glass. I use 10-AMP for such things./
Q: i currently have a system in my car and i have 0G power and grounds wire that i bought off OKorder (some cheap quality cable) i already replaced both ground cables under the hood( engine block to battery and body to battery). now i am going to replace all of it with high quality 0G wire and was wondering if anybody knows the best spots to mount the grounds. and should the wire from my alternator to my battery also be the same 0G wire. also i have a 10 fared Rockford Fosgate cap that has a built in block for power and ground. should i use that block or get a different one? the car i have is a 1997 Sunfire, 2dr.any advice would be appreciated
The factory grounds are okay. You should also change out the wire going from the alternator to the battery. I don't recommend using capacitors b/c they take a few dB from your systems max.
Q: a shop is doing a n engine swap for me (due to my lack of time and place). I specifically told them not to pull the interior wiring harness out because it was not needed to convert the wiring. They did anyway are are now trying to charge me 3 times what they quoted. It would be a huge help if some one knew about how many hours it takes to remove and replace th interior wiring harness in a '91 honda civic dx. Thanks
Interior wiring harness? wat kind of swap did u do? it appears they did not know what they were doing and u basically went to the wrong shop.
Q: I have a 2003 trailblazer ls and im trying to get a wire harness to put a after market radio but there is another wire. And I looked it up and it said its a OnStar. Is that really important to have? Can I just leave it unplug or what? I don't really understand why that other wire is there.
If you were using Onstar, you'd know it, so the wire isn't important.
Q: hello all i need a to know is there anyone who sells and stock radio wiring harness long story short.car was taken from my job i have no idea i was out to lunch with another co work when it happen but but police found it stripped so now i got everything replaced except for the stock radio wiring harness that plugs into back of the stock radio it was ripped out i could tell so is there anyway i can find one for a decent price and how do i wire it in and trace it to where it plugs into what ever it plugs into its non ls 3400 impala no on star or bose radio
the chevy dealer can hook you up with the harness that you need, but it would probably be cheaper to check with the auto stereo shops in your town. Kunkles may also have it
Q: I blew up my 3.9 and i have a 318 and i need to know if it will fit?
it will fit but you will need a wiring harness from a 318. or if you are good with wiring or a friend is you can usually adapt it but its a lot of work. good luck
