Q: was told by a Toyota Service that this would only be 1 hour more labor and cost me about 140 dollars more..and that they always recommend it being done same time as timing belt and water pump replacement....but is really a good idea or not? (if engine is 20 years old..but has ony 150 ,000 miles on it..btw. this is for a 94 Toyota 4 Runner V6 engine: The genuine AISIN timing belt water Pump kit is about $140 at ROCK AUTO! It is NOT necessary to replace the VALVE SEALS! This usually requires removing the YIELDING HEAD to do this! The OI OIL PUMP SEAL would be LEAKING BADLY by now, and it is BEST not to disturb it, if it was NOT LEAKING! Many times they DAMAGE the SEAL housing and cause MORE trouble than it is WORTH! Use the RIGHT type of SYNTHETIC OIL at oil change time with the TOYOTA approval spec numbers printed on the LABEL! I would clean your THROTTLE BODY and IDLE AIR CONTROL valve instead! UUSUALLY, they want you to replace the CAM seals and NOT the oil pump seals WEIRD! IN detorit the 3.0 engien TIMIGN BELT and WATER PUM Preaplcements cost about $750 at either LEXUS or TOYOTA dealership! WOW! I wodu lNOT disturb the seals if they are NOT LEAKING by now! This is NOT a cavlier or PINTO here! The PRECISON with wich a TOYOTA engein is amde and the MATERIALS they have tested and PROVEN to be GREAT should NOT leak in ANOTHER 150k miles! Get a MOTOR FLUSH and retin the ORIGNAL seals! GOOD LUCK!!

Q: can't get the pulleys to line up I know I have a mid 70's 400 and the water pump is later than 1969 but I can't find a pulley that works every one is about a half inch off I bought a aftermarket set of underdrive pulley's from march performance and still the same problem the water pump is a half inch off there was no long or short water pump right they are all the same lenght right??? The only difference I know of is that pre 1968 the pumps have a 8 bolt design and after they have a 11 bolt design is that right???: Actually there was two main pumps for the older ones,, one was called a short shaft,,and one was called a long shaft,,the long shaft was the most popular,and it all depends on whether your car had power steering,,and air conditioning on it,,all the ones that used the long shaft usually had air,,and power steering on them also,,also some of them had a smog pump on them,,this was the main reason they used the long shaft,,most of the smog pumps got taken off and discarded down through the years,,but you still had to use the pump that had the long shaft,,this is the problem your having,,i own a repair shop in Tennessee,,and have been redoing some old cars in the past few years i to have run across the same problem you are having,,you can have a long shaft ordered for you ,,and it will work fine,,i had to use the long shaft on the one i was redoing hope this helps some.

Q: i have a 1960 ford f100 and i was wondering if its better to have an electric water pump or mechanical. ive heard mechanical is worse because at low rpms it doesnt put as much water into the motor but i wasnt sure how true that was. What was is better so that my truck doesnt overheat? and how much better is one over the other if electric will just be a little better is it even worth using? also will i need to change anything on my motor to be able to put an electric water pump on it or will it just bolt on like the mechanical one does: Well your mechanical water pump is more than sufficient to pump water through your engine even at low rpms. Whether you have a electric or mechanical your can't pump more water though your engine than what your thermostat will allow you to. Q: I have replaced the presure switch on my water pump but it switches on and off when it is building up presure instead on staying on until it gets to right presure.Any ideas of what is causing this?: your tank is waterlogged turn the power off to the pump and drain the tank of water completely and turn the pump back on this should do the trick Ive had it happen to me and it worked

Is this a pushrod engine w/ a water pump mounted in the front center of the engine and driven by a serpentine belt? Thanks in advance.: It's very easy to change. It's driven by a serpantine belt but it's off center Right up front closer to the radiator and on top. Break the 13mm pulley bolt's loose, remove the belt, remove loosened pulley bolts and pulley. Then there's like 6, 8mm bolts to remove the pump and that's it. You might have to remove the overflow tank to make it easier to get to. The pump is round and looks like it will go on any 'ol way but it doesn't. It only goes on one way.
