- Welcome to the world of the impinged syndrome and or shoulder tendinitis. First off, take it easy and stop straining your shoulder by doing bench press unless you want it to be a permanent problem. Now to explain to you what happens: You have overdeveloped the front of your shoulder mostly due to the excessive benching and your back shoulder muscles are much weaker. The rotator cuff join becomes inflamed and so you have sharp pain of the shoulder. Ice the crap out of it. Start doing strengthening exercises like external rotations, avoid overhead lifts and bench press for a while!
