- Q: I had to press 5 different types of leaves from my yard for part of my science project. I put newspaper, then the leaves, then a little more newspaper, then my english textbook, a dictionary, and a gallon of water. I let it sit for a week. My results:Australian bottle tree, Australian willow, kumquat bush, and lemon tree leaves worked perfectly.But... the ficus leaf (still got flattened and everything) is BROWN!What happened?I need to know ASAP so I know if I should try the ficus again or do a different type of leaf. I only have time for one more round of pressing before the project is due!Thanks :)
- Ficus plants are always a problem when pressing. The main reason is that they have latex in their tissues and many of them have relatively thick leaves. Not only do they turn brown (or even black) but the leaves usually drop off the stems. There are a few ways to make good Ficus specimens but the ones I've heard of require alcohol (enough to dip the plants in) and you'd need to be able to apply dry heat to your press for a few days at least. So, if you don't HAVE to have a Ficus, use something else (weed from your lawn would be easiest).
- Q: I'm 16 and play football. Last offseason I got 325 on bench press. At the begining of this offseason I started at 300 and quickly worked my way back to 325. For months now I haven't been able to get any higher on my bench press. Any suggestions on how I can get more?
- Amazing amount of weight for a 16 year old! This is what got me through my plateau. I would add 2 to 3 days more rest before doing bench press again than usual. If that didn't work I would drink alot more water and make sure I had had 2 or more meals before working out (not right before working out though) and get my diet more spot on for the days leading up to my next workout while also adding the 2 to 3 days more rest before the workout. That should work! BUT some other factors can cause some problems like: stress from work or school can tax your nervous system big time and if you are doing a split style of training, that could also be taxing your nervous system. So try having more rest between ALL workouts in general. This didn't help me, it fixed my problem completely.
- Q: I pressed a flower once, and it didn't work well, so I wanted to ask this time how to do it properly. I hear that wax paper works well, but since I have none, will plastic wrap work? What other good substitutes are there, about how much weight does a single rose need, and how long should I press it for? Thanks!
- I don't think it will work because instead of allowing the flower to dry, it will keep the moisture trapped around the flower. You'll end up with a moldy flower. I've always just placed the flower to be dried between two pieces of paper and them weighted it down with heavy books. It works great.

- We want the free press out because they have no business there. They all put their own spin on things and report what they think/feel rather than what actually takes place. I am very pale so brands that have pale shades would be good for me and I do have a few blemishes but not major so good coverage would be needed. My one at the minute is quite cakey and you can easily see the powder so I would like one that is good at blending in. I live in the UK so please don't suggest ones that can be only found in walmart or another american shop but if it's online and the shipping is cheap, I could probably get it. - Q: I am trying to become a Freelance Photographer and sell my photos to the local newspapers and other media organizations. - When I was a newspaper reporter, we reporters used to laugh a bit at our friends asking us to get them a press pass. That was because, we felt, if you had to have a press pass, it wasn't going to do you much good. Yes, we all had press ID. But it was a point of pride not to use it -- just waltz up to the place or person and say, I'm from xyz news. How about that...(and ask your question.) But your situation is a bit different, I see. Okay, here's what some people in your situation (actually needing a press pass) did. We had a county press association, and when I was president, II made name cards for all the members -- even some who were freelancers like you. I think your idea of making yourself a news media with a blog is a good one. Print yourself up a card with your blog name on it, and your id for contacts -- name, phone#, email addy. I bet it would work -- make it _real_ official looking!

- You need accreditation from a publisher, (Magazine or Newspaper), or you need to get accreditation from a photographic agency. Look in the Photographers Year Book.
- Q: There are many commercially availiable earth block press machines for sale. I want to make - and maybe improve if I can, on a current design so that I can produce blueprints for free distribution. Are there any sites/plans out there to get me started on making a prototype. I am a draftsperson in California. My goal is to make a full set of plans for an easily made CEB press to post online for anyone - in any country - to download for free and make their own press. The web actually has no sets of plans you can download for free. Even portions of plans I have seen have no measurements to allow someone to fabricate one. My intention was to try to find a working set of plans, that had no patent and draw them properly (I have years of CAD drafting experiance) and get them online so that people could build the presses with basic workshop tools.
- You might try buying a press; disassembling it, measure the individual parts and then draft the components into a set of drawings. You can also go to the Patent Office in Washington, DC and review the files for previously patented presses and you can find ones that have expired. Or you could find a current press manufacturer and become a distributor. I've lived in a number of third world countries were block presses are used on a regular basis and they are an income producing trade. The press is considered a capital asset and giving them away would be frowned on.

I can see why that would result in criminal charges. This brings into sharp perspective your question. Yes, you can harrass someone criminally by posting false statements about their moral character on the internet. You are civilly liable too. False statements impugning the morals of your victim are per se defamation, and require no proof of damages. Sucks to be you!
