Q: This morning I was driving my girlfriend to work and the check engine light came on. Took it to the auto parts store to get it scanned and it gave me a code of P0440 Evaporative Emissions System. I texted ChaCha and asked them how to fix the problem. They answered back and said Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. This should fix the problem. To me it seems like that fix wouldn‘t work but I was wondering if that‘s true? If not, how do I fix the problem?Btw, I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2L: P0440 is one of several evaporative emissions leak codes. A loose (or cross-threaded) gas cap is the most common cause, and certainly the cheapest thing to try first. It may take a couple of days for the code to clear by itself, so don't be in too much of a hurry to try something else.

Q: I just bought a 2003 Corolla 71K miles end of feb. Lean codes are not indicative of bad oxygen sensors. You can google the causes of codes P0171, but the O2 sensor is not the problem.

Q: I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pick up with a v-6 engine. The previous owner had installed an alarm system but kind of half disconnected it; you still have to hit the alarm button before you can start it, which I like but there‘s no sound. The problem I am having is that the bing bing bing bing bing sound happens EVERY TIME I open the door. It should only happen when the key is in the ignition or when there‘s a light on, but it happens every time the door is opened. How do I fix this? He told me to pour injector fluid in it, and after filling up the tank and adding the cleaning injector fluid, I‘ve been running the car for about a week and the tank is getting low, I turned it on earlier and the light was off. Would that have been the problem then? Or should I get it checked again? He said that sometimes they get dirty and cause that light.: System too lean code is a delicate situation especially with a turbo car. If what your mechanic tell youto do work just leave it alone.

Q: Is ttl basically the same thing as auto except that ttl tells the flash what yur camera settings are and in auto u have to manually dial in the settings? Also, there is something called i-tt(for nikon) and a a comparable function for other camera manufacturers where teh camera shoots a quick preflash to determine exposure. What is, if any, the advantage to i-tt. Is it any more accurate than auto or ttl?: As with anything else, the anwer is: it depends. In a TTL flash system, the camera measures the flash through the lens (which is what TTL means) and tells the flash when to shut off. An auto flash measures the light itself. Both can be fooled by the same things, like a reflective surface or a large amount of dark colors in a shot. I use both kinds, and for me, the auto flash is more consistent. Yes, you have to set the ISO and aperture on the flash to match what you are using on the camera, where a TTL unit already knows these things. The camera and flash are not re-measuring the scene for each shot, which a TTL system does, and can give you widely variable results from shot to shot. The camera meter controls the flash, and if you meter on a bright spot one shot, and a dark spot the second shot, the flash output will be very different. An auto unit is measuring the entire scene each shot, not one specific area. What the TTL units make easy is fill flash. You don't have to measure or calculate or make a best guess as to the flash power, you just shoot and it works. Nikon even has a specific flash mode for this. I shoot E-TTL with Canon gear, although I find that it tends to underexpose the flash by 2/3 to 1 full stop, and that is with 2 different flashes. With my Sony digital, and Minolta and Nikon film cameras, I use all auto flashes. I get results as good, or better, than the E-TTL stuff, without the constant underexposure of the Canon system.

You will need to fix what caused it to come on. You need an OBDII scan tool to check those codes. If you think or thought it was the fuel cap left loose, it will reset itself after 30 key cycles(Not 30 key on, key off trick either--has to have a drive cycle in between those key on key off trip) but yes, you will need to redo the clock, radio stations if you disconnect the battery. Would be quicker faster if you just went by a local auto parts store have them see what the code is then clear it. Most likely an oxygen sensor code
