Q:my check engine light is on in my 97 vw jetta. the reason it is on is because i unpluged the wire from my MAF sensor i started it up. unfortunatally the light wont go off. i went to advance auto and they checked the code and indeed it was the sensor. if anyone could tell me how to get the light off?: Take the negative lead off the battery to reset the check engine light.

HELP: That depends on which part of the system you need. The most common problem in that system it the secondary air injection pump. It is located under the vehicle kind of in a little corner between the frame rail and crossmember. Because they are under the truck, they tend to get dirt, debris, and moisture in them which causes them to go bad. Another common failure that we see where I work is people drive the vehicle through deep water and the pupm gets full of water and shorts out. Anyhow, there are other parts to the system, but that is the most common to fail.

Q:Light continues to flash and I can not start my car until it stops.: You will have to get the code(s) checked in the PCM and BCM to see what has been caught and is acting up. Most of the problems associated with this car's theft system were related to a voltage drop inside the ignition switch. The only fix is to replace the ignition switch in the dash. If you have aftermarket alarms or auto start devices installed, that can also cause a ton of grief.

Q:i've done a complete tune up wires plugs cap rotor oil change also replaced distributor with one from a toyota changed the tranny fluid and filter i haven't done the o2 sensor yet but was wondering if it came on for other reasons .now i can reset the COMPUTER and after driving 125 miles then the light comes back on .any advice would be very appreciated: Take your car to autozone or any other mechanic shop that offers to check your engine light for free. They will tell you what is wrong and reset the code. They will sell you the part you need and you should be set.

Q:I have a 1995 curris. My check engine light comes one after 10 minutes of driving. i took it to a shop to find out what the deal was, the auto guy was like when you drive it you can feel it when the car drops cylinders. what is the cause of this? i get reg. oil changes since i do alot of driving. once a month i have to put fuel injector into my tank, what should i do? some one reconmmended to me that i should like clean out the engines system or whatever with some fuild type stuff. if you think u know what im talking about, do you think that will work? at tymes it does have a burning smell.: Usually dead cylinders are the result of an ignition system malfunction, such as a fouled plug, bad spark plug wire or coil, as well as a couple of other possible culprits. If the shop you took it to couldn't find out what the cause was, take it to another shop. You can also go to Checker Auto, Autozone, etc., and they will read your 'check engine' light for free. If you have a misfire, the code will come up as a 'cylinder number x misfire', or 'multiple cylinder misfire'.

Q:I drive a Auto 02 corolla with 120,000 miles. when the check engine light came on back in may, friend drove it to the shop for 2 days to fix. After i got it back i was told the exhaust pipe needs to be replaced(or something with the exhaust system i wasn‘t there) so the CEL dissapeared for a week then came back on, i been driving it with the CEL on since may, it makes very loud noise when i step on the gas pedal. should i keep driving it? it doesnt affect the engine right? Thanks: sometimes an exhaust leak will trigger the oxygen sensor. that turns the CEL on. since the computer knows something is wrong the car tends to act different and you lose gas mileage. best to get it repaired and the car will last longer.

Q:Had my oil changed at a place and they told me my check engine light my come on after doing so. He told me how to reset it however I can not remember how he said to do it.Anyone know about this??: Total BS, the CEL function is to warn operators of malfunctions detected by any of the cars onboard diagnostic systems, powertrain, body, transaxle, etc. Many faults may illuminate the light, if serious enough it will flash at you, indicating a serious problem which may be unsafe for youor damaging to the vehicle. If the CEL light is , or has illuminated there will be a diagnostic code stored in the PCM, or TCM, etc. This will indicate the area or circuit which has been involved in a failure event. Some failures take more than one event to set a hard code, but the problem will still be stored as an indicator for up to 55 start cycles.

Q:I am working on a 92 Camry, 1.6 motor, auto tranny. There is light brown oil in the radiator. The owner of the car said he drained the water several times but there is stil that same color oil in there. I was thinking either the gasket or radiator from the tranny. I checked the tranny fluid and the motor oil and it was clean no water in it. The motor runs and sounds reallly good. Could it be possible, when he purchased the car, the previouse owner had a bad head gasket and ended up getting oil in the radiator, then repaired it and now the oil in the radiator is so thick that it hasnt flushed out when we replaced (flushed) the coolent? There is a little smoke out the tailpipe but it doesnt smell sweet like coolent. It‘s very little smoke but constant, maybe bad rings? there is also water dripping from the tailpipe, and the weather is not cold. I dont remember if he said the water in the rad goes low fast. anyone know? I‘m changing the head gasket anyway on Wed but dont want 2.: With the Radiator Cap off and the Engine running for a minute or so do you smell Exhaust in the Radiator? Yes, Head Gasket. No, Transmission Cooler Lines, New Radiator needed.

Q:i think when i was pulling fuses i set it off?: The air bag light will only come on when it does a bulb check at key on or when their is a fault detected. Check to be sure the fuses are in fully, if they are off to the dealer you go to have it fixed.
