- Q: Will the car's LED daytime running lights, what role ah?
- In the EU, there are long rules: in the day driving the car must open the daytime running lights, no daytime running lights, to open the headlamps. This is to maximize the safety of driving.
- Q: Over the weekend our 1997 Honda Civic sedan developed an interesting problem. After starting the car and pushing on the brake I cannot shift the auto transmission out of Park. So I first have to manually unlock it, shift to Neutral and then start the car. Also the horn is now not working. I checked the horn fuse which was blown and replaced it but upon trying to test the horn the fuse blew again. Any ideas on what the problem could be?
- The problem with the car not shifting out of Park is caused by your blown fuse for the Horn. Here's the logic the car will not shift out of Park unless you have your foot on the brake pedal. the only way the shift interlock system knows you have your foot on the brake pedal is that when you put your foot on the brake pedal the brake lights in the back of the car come on. so if the brake lights are ON then the shift interlock system lets you take the car out of Park. the taillights share the same fuse as the horn. so when the fuse for the horn blows the brake lights don't work. you have to systematically eliminate the components in the circuit to see what's causing the problem. I would do it this way 1) replace the fuse (better have about 5 fuses to do this). then step on the brake and shift the car out of Park. if it works then you can eliminate everything in the brake lights portion of the system because the fuse did not blow. 2) try the horn. again, I know you said it blew when you tested the horn so your problem should be with the horn side but do it just to confirm. if the fuse blows again then you know its the horn circuit that is the problem 3) replace the fuse, then unplug the horn connector. then try the horn again. if the fuse doesn't blow you have a shorted horn. my guess is this is your problem. 3) if the fuse blows then the problem is with the horn relay. you can substitute any like relay in the underhood fuse and relay box for the horn relay and test it. if the horn works and the fuse doesn't blow your problem is a shorted relay. 4) if you find the horn is shorted then you can just remove the connector and drive without the horn until you can get it fixed or, if you can't get to the horn connector (its usually not very easy) then pull the horn relay and at least you'll have brake lights and the shift interlock until you can get the horn replaced I think you'll find its the horn itself. - Q: I just bought a 92 mazda mx3 gs manual and the check engine light pops on then off every now and then while I‘m driving it. What could be causing this?
- There is a code being tripped by something under the hood that is doing that and then correcting itself for a bit. If the car's running okay otherwise, I've found the most common thing that does this is an 02 sensor. Since they rely on a 'count' system that has to agree with the 'count' produced by the next 02 sensor inline, then the code trips and then when you're driving they tend to 'agree' with each other later. I have a couple of vehicles that do this and even after changing the sensors I still get an intermittent light that comes on. If you want to verify that there is a code tripped, you can have your checked for free at those discount auto parts places. They'll let you know what the code says if it is still in the computer on your car.

- Poncho on certain models of the 1999 silverado with the 5.3 liter engine these models have the A.I.R. system.This secondary air injection reaction pump and solenoid pumps air into the exhaust manifold to clean up the emissions.Your going to need to have the dealer or local auto repair shop in your area check the pump and solenoid operation and find out which one is not working.The ones that been in my service dept most of the time the pump is working but the solenoid gets stuck and causes poor air flow that causes the service engine soon lamp.Best of luck with your silverado.
- Q: This code is coming from my wife‘s 1998 Toyota Camry (3.0L V6).The print-out that I got from Auto Zone says this:Evaporative emission control system vent control circuit faultProbable causes:1. Open or short circuit condition2. Poor electrical connection3. Faulty CCV vent control solenoidIf anyone has had any similar codes from their car, please let me know if it needs to be checked out right away or if it can wait a week or two.I know, the sooner the better.but realistically, we can‘t get it checked out right away.Any help would be greatly appreciated. - This is not a serious problem and you can safely operate the car with the check engine light lit. The Evaporative emmission control system is designed to prevent the gas in your gas tank from venting fumes into the atmosphere since gasoline evaporates easily. When the system does not work properly, the check engine light must come on according to government polution regulation law. However, your car is just fine. Make sure the gas cap is on tightly (clicks when you turn it tight) and you are good to go.
- Q: Usually i turn on and off the lights at home at the same time more or less, so i thought to automate it.I‘m looking for a product you can replace with the regular light‘s wall-switch that have a usb port and a switch with three levels: on, off (to overwrite the automation) and auto. and by connecting a laptop to the usb port, you can program the light when to go on and off.is there a product like that (or something somewhat similar) or in order to automate the lights at home i need to install a complex home-automation system or go to the other extreme, and install a regular, old timer that can‘t handle multiple and complex dates and times?

- Q: I get alittle agitated at auto makers that now put fog lamps on cars ,and will come on whenever you turn on the regular headlights . They blind most people as they shine excessivly brighter and confuse the other driver into thinking you have your bright lights on . I located a pair of airplane landing lights , and was thinking of installing them on my truck as fog lamps ,no amber lenses, just plain white bright lights that‘ll reach out Are they a good idea ? Some people notoriously point their fog lamps up so as they think they are brighter but dont take into consideration that they actually blind the other drivers , or, turn their fog lamps on just so they can see that extra 1/10 th distance further .Not saying I‘m right at doing so , but , why not if ya think I‘m wrong .
- I say go for it . I drive home 40 miles at 3:00 in the morning every night on I-40 and half the cars/semis i pass have their brights on and don't bother dimming them.
