Q: i have a 2001 chrysler sebring that the BCM went bad. so I went to the auto salvage and they replaced my BCM. thing is, when i got home i locked up my car as usual. then later i wanted to go to the store, so i attempted to get back in my car when the horn kept beeping and parking lights flashing. i‘m assuming the BCM was original to the 2001 sebring with some anti theft. when i bought the car used from a private person he only gave me a key, no remote or anything, just a key. well turns out that the BCM in there that got fried was the wrong BCM for that car to begin with, thus the BCM frying on me, so anyway. now that the right one is there i need to know how to bypass the system so my horn will stop beeping and i can start my car because my car will start but die immediately i think is due to the anti theft. so how can i get my car at least to the dealership so i can have the remote lock/unlock programmed? any advice? please.: This is your potential problem. If the bcm the junkyard installed has an active VTSS (vehicle theft security system) it has a code which it transfers to the pcm. The system looks for a signal from the skim module which is attached to the steering column. The key has a small coded transmitter (grey programmable key) which is linked to the skim module. If your Sebring did not have the optional skim sytem originally, you will now have to throw out the bcm and the corrupted pcm. If your Sebring came with a slim black key, you'll now need a bcm and pcm. Sorry.

If this is OBD2, and the light is not flashing, it is not a serious problem. OBD2 systems take multiple restarts (up to 50) after a problem has been resolved, to turn the light off. Or, you can go to an auto parts store, and they should be able to turn the light off if OBD2.

Q: Last Week while I was driving I noticed a small batterie shaped light come on. I looked at the gauge that shows your batterie voltage and it showed normal. Truck acted fine (1997 Ford F250 7.3 diesel), and shortly after (mabe 5 miles or so) the light when off.Last night when I started it I noticed that light (along with the others that come on when you crank the engine), stayed on. Truck is running fine.I am guessing it is not my regular batterie (since the gauge shows normal), so is it the batterie for the glow plugs?So, I got out my manual and it says if that light comes on, to have the charging system checked? How? Who does that (preferably besides the dealer)? What kind of out of cost am I looking at? Any help?: Sounds like you need a new battery, but have it tested at your local auto parts store. The national chain stores like autozone and advance auto will test your battery and charging system for free in their parking lot.

Q: I have a 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 94K miles on it. Yesterday the engine malfunction light came on. I consulted the owner‘s manual and it said to first check the gas fill cap. I did that and re-tightened it, but the light did not go out. Then it added that if that didn‘t fix the problem it was likely something wrong with the emission system. I wanted to know if the engine malfunction light on would have created a code that can be read and if that is the same thing as check engine light on other cars. I called the auto dealer today and they said they charge $100 just to check the code and depending what it is, if they could even fix it or would have the parts, if needed. Someone at work suggested I take it to Advance Auto since they will check the codes for free. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.: The check engine light will only be lit while the conditions are present to warrant an error. In other words, conditions went back to acceptable for some reason. If the check engine light came one for an entire tank of gas I'd think about using a different gas station. Bad gas can really screw your engine up. The code will still be stored in the computer and in most cars it can even tell you what the engine was doing when the code appeared. i.e. what speed traveled, what gear, any other contributing factors, etc.
