Q: This morning when i drove my car about 1 mile the check engine light came up i am sure when i start my car in morning there was no light but i just came up after driving one mile so i went to auto zone and they told me code is P0440 which is evaporative emission system but my question is it could be my gas cap or i have big problem in my fuel system because i checked all hoses its not cracked or leaking i recently got new radiator and he check every thing hoses and etc. One thing i noticed before like one month ago the gas cap was loose so i tight it and then before going to auto zone i checked gas cap it was loose so i tight it but check engine light didn‘t went. The guy at auto zone told me tight the cap and drive around if it didnt go put new gas cap on so if i did that check engine light will go away or do i need to reset itgt; please help this is my first time dealing with check engine light.: Pay attention to the gas cap tightness. Don't worry about the light for now if it goes out after tightening the cap. You might just get a new cap and keep the old one for a spare. One day you will leave the cap at a gas station or drop it down a hole.

Q: I HAVE A 1996 FORD EXPLORER, I HAD THE AUTO ZONE COMPUTER THING AND IT SAID I NEEDED A OXYGEN SENSOR SO I BOUGHT ONE, HAD IT PUT ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. NOW WHAT. I NEED TO GET INSPECTED BUT CANT WITH THAT LIGHT AND WHEN I RESET IT, THE LIGHT WENT OFF FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND CAME BACK ON WHAT DO I DO NOW?: If the your car has gone to 3 different shops and their code reader detected a fault with the same code and has been replaced with a new one then the problem may lye in the a faulty wire to or from the main computer. Depending on the code reader they were using may not have the capability to perform a function that will reset adaptation or monitor the suspected part. Some late model cars have the capability of flashing the prom chip in the computer that fixes any known bugs in the chip. I suggest taking the car to the GMC dealer because they have the proper test equipment to monitor and performed specific activation test to isolate the problem. Your chances of them finding the culprit is much likely than a shop that doesn't have the proper equipment. If they do pinpoint the problem in a timely fashion they will call u give an accurate estimate to repair it. And that's when u decide if it's not worth fixing. But give them a try. It beats financing a new car and keeping the extra funds for more important things. Good luck!

Q: I think there‘s something wrong with my fuel system but I want to be sure because if if not,I‘m out $100 for the test.There is a recall on the fuel system.Here‘s what it‘s doing: I drive a lot of h-way time.About 2-3 months ago I started hearing a loud humming noise coming from the engine.I‘m just driving along with cruise control on even and just out of the blue the engine will begin humming.It‘ll start soft,get louder and then stay at one pitch.When I take my foot off the gas,it dies down and then everything sounds normal,but once I apply the gas, it doesn‘t take but a few minutes and it comes back.I had new spark plugs installed around the time my engine light started staying on for longer periods because it does go off but it doesn‘t stay off for more than one trip,I‘ve always gotten 30mpg and still am.I can‘t afford to be out $100.Does anyone know if this is fuel system related, or not?I‘ve heard Ford‘s are known for bad fuel pumps, is this true?: THE VERY FIRST THING YOU DO IS FREE. Take it to an Advanced Auto Parts store and have them check the trouble code. They will do this for free and it takes less than 5 minutes. This will tell you if that the ECM has detected a problem and it will tell you what it is. If its something to do with your fuel system (i.e. lean mixture) than start with a new fuel filter. They are $7 and take less time to replace than checking the trouble code. The problem also could be an air intake leak.

Q: I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX 2 Dr. it has cruise control *the guy at the auto parts store asked, so I thought that might matter* and it is a 4 cyl. I am getting ready to sell it, the guy buying it wanted to take it to a mechanic to have it looked over, I agreed. At the end of the inspection, the mechanic said that everything was great except my brake lights didn‘t work. All the brake lights are out. I assumed it was the fuse, as did my BF.but after checking I don‘t see a brake light fuse. I really don‘t want to have to go through each fuse. My brother is mechanically inclined, and said it seems more likely to be the brake light switch as he checked the fuses he thought it was. So what does everyone else think? It also shoots out white smoke from the exost not constantly but when aselarating: Bad advice to take your car to an auto parts store with the expectation they will hook it up to their analyzer to diagnose your car's problem. They will NOT be able to give you an accurate reading because BMWs require highly specialized equipment for this. Your best bet is to take it into the service dept at a BMW dealership or to an independent BMW repair shop that has made the considerable investment in this type of equipment.

Q: Last night the power went out, and today my monitor keeps flashing Auto Adjust in Progress. I‘ve tried about everything I can think of; pressed the auto adjust on the screen itself, rebooted, updated my drivers. The last time this happened I found a file in my global start up that seemed to be causing the problem, and got rid of it and the message stopped, but that file isn‘t there anymore (it came from my isp‘s installation disc--i was trying to fix a different problem with it), and I‘m not sure what to do. Q: The check engine light has been on constantly since I bought the car, and I have been told by more than one person that it‘s just due to a catalytic converter sensor so I left it alone. Recently, I‘ve started getting low on oil, probably because my miles are so high (178K) and I‘m burning it, so I put oil in about once a week. Just this morning, after driving about 10 minutes, the check engine light started to blink and did so almost constantly during my remaining 15 minutes of driving. It felt like it just didn‘t want to go any faster. Once I got to my destination and the car was parked but still on, it felt like it was humming, or jerking or something. Once the car was off, something didn‘t smell right but I couldn‘t figure out the smell. No smoke was coming out of the back or front. I‘m worried about even driving to an Auto Zone or something similar without knowing the problem.
