Q: I just bought a 92 mazda mx3 gs manual and the check engine light pops on then off every now and then while I‘m driving it. What could be causing this?: There is a code being tripped by something under the hood that is doing that and then correcting itself for a bit. If the car's running okay otherwise, I've found the most common thing that does this is an 02 sensor. Since they rely on a 'count' system that has to agree with the 'count' produced by the next 02 sensor inline, then the code trips and then when you're driving they tend to 'agree' with each other later. I have a couple of vehicles that do this and even after changing the sensors I still get an intermittent light that comes on. If you want to verify that there is a code tripped, you can have your checked for free at those discount auto parts places. They'll let you know what the code says if it is still in the computer on your car.

Q: I have a 99 F150 and my ABS light is on so I took it to an auto repair shop, and they told me that I needed a new ABS system, about $1500.00 but he also said that they have stopped making them, so he was going to call around junk yards and see if any of them carry them, $600.00 Problem is do I really need the ABS. PS just had my brakes replaced less than 2 months ago.: Well let me start with saying people drove for decades without ABS systems. They began being required on over the road semi trucks in th 1970s. And began coming as standard equipment on passenger cars in the 1990s. Obviously the National highway traffic safety admin, as well as automakers feel very strongly about them. It usually has no effect on your service brakes if there is a fault in the ABS system. And you probably notice no change in how the service brakes feel with the ABS light on. ABS can make a huge difference in the ability to control a stop in ice, water or sand. There is no worse feeling than sliding uncontrolled in a panic stop. Especially in the rain or snow. Your F150 would be prone to an controlled skid in a panic stop since there is very little weight over the rear tires. I would make every attempt I could to get it repaired

Q: My spark plugs and wiring and tubing on my car cylinder (99 Plymouth neon) were drenched in oil. The problem got fixed. or so I thought. The people at advanced read it on their machine before it got repaired and said cylinder 2 misfired. When driving it it surge and kinda hesitate when accelerating. I‘m hyperventilating.: Once the Computer(ECM) has seen a hard code (like a misfire) it will turn on the engine light and store a trouble code in the computer's memory. That code and Check engine light will not turn off until the ECM's memory is reset/cleared. You will need someone with a scanner to reset/clear the code. It may turn off on its own once it hasn't seen the problem for at least 50 to 100 ignition cycles.

ADDED: You may have a sensor going bad. It is 13 years old. Try having the codes read at Autozone.
