Q: I have a 97 Toyota 4-Runner that I‘ve had for 3 years it is in perfect condition. Just recently the check engine light came on I have never had that in 3 years. My dad said maybe it‘s the gas cap but I got gas last week i make sure the gas cap clicks so that cant be it. (Trying to ask my dad for help he‘s no help) My car was looked at not to long ago with no problems I don‘t want my car to stop on me in the middle of where I need to go. Does the oil have something to do with the engine? Should I wait a week to see if the check engine light is still on to get it inspected? I‘m trying to learn about cars and I need help.
The gas cap is one of 500 things that can turn the light on. You have an OBDII vehicle. The best thing to do is invest in a decent Code Reader/Scanner. The decent ones start at $50 and most auto parts stores sell them or search online. The great thing is they'll work on any car sold in the U.S. from 1996 to present day so you'll always need it and use it kinda like a screwdriver. I don't know why everyone doesn't have one yet. The Check Engine light is for the engines computer system which includes emission controls and all it's sensors and solenoid's. When the light comes on, that means the computer has flagged a problem and has set a trouble code. So step one is to plug into the diagnostic connector, that is 24 from the steering column on all vehicles 1996 and newer, with a code reader and see what the trouble codes are. For example, code P0442 is the universal loose gas cap code. But it also be a small air leak anywhere on the fuel tank. P stands for Powertrain, then the following numbers are specific to the area the problem is. In Missouri, you can get codes checked for free at Autozone but MO is currently trying to follow Cali by making it illegal for Autozone to clear the codes. If you do go there, get the code numbers and run!! Like Davey said, THEY ARE NOT AUTO TECHNICIAN'S. Long story short, your next step is to get the code numbers from the vehicles computer. Write them down, then go from there. Come back and post the codes in a new question.
Q: Why is the car bulb easy to burn? Where is the problem
The lamp is not in good quality or the voltage current is unstable
Q: Why do many people who own a DSLR use it in auto setting?
they are not confident about getting the right manual settings and therefore missing that one in a million shot
Q: the car drive smooth and check engine light was not coming on now 2days later it is onDoes this always mean something is wrong with the engine? How come light did not come on when i test drove it and kept starting it up and cutting it off it also sounds really quiet but not two days later i go to start up the car and the check engine light come on could they had of known this and did something for light to not come on when i test drove? Other then the light coming on there are no problems i can see with this vehicle.ANy and all answers will be helpfulThanks
The check engine light comes on when a sensor reads out of the allowable range. It could have been caused by something simple, such as not turning the car off when you were getting fuel (setting an evaporative emissions system code), or it could have been caused by an engine misfire, or other problem. Have the computer scanned for codes, many auto parts chains will do this for free. The code will tell you what the problem is.
Q: I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX 2 Dr. it has cruise control *the guy at the auto parts store asked, so I thought that might matter* and it is a 4 cyl. I am getting ready to sell it, the guy buying it wanted to take it to a mechanic to have it looked over, I agreed. At the end of the inspection, the mechanic said that everything was great except my brake lights didn‘t work. All the brake lights are out. I assumed it was the fuse, as did my BF.but after checking I don‘t see a brake light fuse. I really don‘t want to have to go through each fuse. My brother is mechanically inclined, and said it seems more likely to be the brake light switch as he checked the fuses he thought it was. So what does everyone else think? Ask for any additional information you need. Thanks a lot!
Check the bulb. If it is burnt out replace it, there are two elements in them, one for signaling the other for brakes. If this does not correct the problem check bulb socket for corrosion and the wires leading to the sockets to make sure they are connected. I suspect you have a loose wire or connector check the trunk for wires on the back of the light assembly. These maybe contained in the side wall assembly. This would require you to remove the light lens and look at the connectors in behind them! Most Jobbers (folks who do auto work as a hobbie or auto wreckers or brothers who are mechanically inclined etc.) can fix this relatively cheep! Hope this helps. Of course see if you can get it your self first but if you get stuck try the above idea! Also if your the hands on type ask if they would mind you observing for future reference, but be sure to respect there space so they can do their work. There is nothing worse then having a critic hanging over your shoulder when your working.
Q: I have a 2000 Nissan Altima GLE with these problems: - When I activate my alarm with my remote (hold Lock for 2 secs), I can hear the alarm, but none of the lights flash. - When I use the key in the driver-side door, all four doors don‘t automatically lock/unlock. Only the driver-side door will unlock (because I‘m turning the key in that door). - Should the alarm go off after automatically locking all doors, waiting, and manually unlocking and opening a door? This does not happen.Where can I find the alarm circuit/fuse, and how can I fix the auto key lock?
Push and hold lock and unlock buttons on your remote three flasher blinks you should now have lights and no honk. Reset back the same way. Next manually turning the key once drivers side only unlocks lock. turn to unlock turn again passengers side unlocks or locks trun and hold the key either to lock or unlock 2 seconds that arms/disarms the alarm system watch the dash security light it turns on and 45 seconds latter it flashes slowly. Rapid flash means the car alarm has gone off and you will need to disarm to start the car with key or remote.
Q: How much would an EVAP system test be for a 99 Ford Taurus?
As part of an emissions test or do you have a check engine or service engine soon light on, with a DTC for the evap system? I just paid an extra $15. to have the evap system tested as part of the biennial smog program in California. If you are having a problem causing the CEL or SES light to stay on, it will be more. Depending on the code, the most common problem is the fuel tank cap not on securely causing a fault when the on-board test runs on the evap system. Always turn the cap so that you hear at least three clicks when tightening it back on. Try it and drive around a few days and see if the light goes out on it's own.
Q: Anyone have a list? What if the AC/Heating does not work?
i have mixed feelings on anti-lock brakes. while they are useful for the average driver who doesnt understand vehicle dynamics, and doesnt understand how to use threshold braking under all conditions, they are a detriment to those of us who do take pride in driving, and are more than capable of stopping in low traction conditions without the use of computer controls. thus i would have to answer i do not like anti-lock brakes.
Q: It goes on and stays on. It has not been hit or had any kind of impact. I have read that some cars flash a code and it does not. It is just the airbag light that goes on. Nothing else. I need to take it for inspection shortly and know it will not pass because of that light. I really do not have any extra money to spend. It doesn‘t flash. It goes on and stays on. It has been happening for almost two weeks now. I have read it can cost up to $2000 and I do not have that. Anyway I can find out the issue without it costing a lot? Thanks.
The airbag light means that there is a fault in the airbag system. A code will be stored in the computer which will tell you where the fault is. Many auto parts chains will do a computer scan for free, telling you what the code is. Most likely the clock spring in the steering wheel has gone bad, and the computer is reading the drivers air bag as not responding. The clock spring allows the electrical connections to the steering wheel air bag, while the wheel turns
Q: i got a flat yesterday. my boyfriend came and fixed it with the spare that came with the car. its been running fine and no damage could have really resulted from the flat. does the check engine light come on when a spare is on the car??
The check engine light will come on when the computer detects a problem with an engine related sensor, or a reading from an engine related sensor that indicates a problem may be present in the engine, or the engine may not be operating at the highest level of efficiency. While the cause of the check engine light is most likely not your tire change, it could be if you have a Tire pressure monitoring system. Engine codes/lights will remain on untill the code is retreived, and reset, this can only be done with and OBD scanner tool, they are only 30 bucks for really cheapo ones, you can get them at any auto parts store. When you retreive the code, it will tell you what the egine computer is detecting.
