Q:The light disappears spontaneously after 1 seconds. The car drives ok afterwards. The oil level looks fine on dipstick, and I have one bar left on the auto oil change indicator. This has been happening for the last 2-3 weeks. I recently had a dead battery, which is lt;1 yr old, and thought it might be a bad alternator. Q:The engine light on my car turn on now and again. It stays on for about 2 days then goes off for about a week, then back on again. Sometimes is sooner or later. Does anyone know of any common faults or what this might be? If the light is turning off then it cant be serious can it?: the check engine light goes on when any of the systems the computer monitors returns a value outside the parameters it expects to see. Even when the light recycles and resets, the error code is kept in memory. Go to the dealer, or your mechanic, and have the system scanned for error codes. One that is done you will know what codes are present, and how serious it is. Someone is bound to tell you to go to some auto parts store to have it scanned. Please don't. They only do the scan to sell you parts, and the scan is only as good as the kid on the counter that day.

Q:Will the headlamps in front of the car be completely sealed? My new car back to the first day, headlamps on the fog, 4S shop reply is okay, will naturally dry. Q:I just had my brakes done a couple of months ago.They feel fine at the peddle.The other day the ABS light came on.My step father disconnected the positive cable on the battery to reset the computer.But its still on.How do I get it to go off?: on the newer models you have to clear those trouble codes with a scanner removing the cable wont work on those,chances are it came on because of back pressure when they pressed the calipers back in on it,have auto zone clear the code off with a scanner and if it comes back on then you have a problem with it,i doubt that there's anything wrong,they just put back pressure on the abs unit and that caused the light to come on it happens a lot when doing brake on systems with abs brakes,good luck.

Q:My battery light turned on few days ago. I changed the battery since it was old, but the light is still on.is it the alternator? or what?: Usually the alternator sets the light on, either not charging or a bad diode within the alternator itself.gl

Q:I thought I knew everything about these cars and was home free. While driving, the battery light will come on for a few seconds/minute, a message will say CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM, than turn off again.However we replaced the battery and alternator a year or two ago, and got about 40k without any electrical problems. Otherwise, The car is not acting weird. But It almost has 190,000. Besides the common ABS problem, this is the only thing that is acting up with it. I am thinking maybe dirty or loose connections to the battery? Its been really rainy these past days. What Should I check? I would hate to get rid of this van.: The charging system light indicates the battery isn't being charged properly. Clean and re-tighten both ends of the battery terminals. While one battery cable is off, check the red alternator wire connection. Using an inexpensive hand held volt meter the battery voltage should read between 13.5 - 14.0 volts with the engine running. This is the proper alternator charging voltage. Never assume that because the alternator is relatively new it's working properly. Box store electrical parts are cheap junkers to say the least! AC-Delco re-manufactured starters and alternators have 100% brand new internal parts and carry a lifetime warranty.

Q:My truck was totaled, but no one was hurt. It has been 3 weeks since the accident and I have no vehicle. I have a copy of the police report that states that the other vehicle disregarded the red light and struck me. My insurance company has all ready came to their decision and found the other party fully at fault. So I had filed with the other parties insurance. Their response to my claim is that they feel that there are conflicting stories and that the police officer on the scene didn‘t take down a name of a witness.So they feel that I am entitled to only half of what they first appraised all my damages/costs to be. I feel that it is their legal obligation to pay in full the reasonable costs including loss of vehicle, impound costs, and any other fees. I keep getting the run around with that insurance company and need advice.: I see you have no name for the person at fault in your accident i have an idea for you. Go get your police report and see if the police officer wrote down the License plate number. Then if its legal in your area, take your police report to the local police station personally and have them run the plate number through the system database. I would ask to talk to someone first though preferably an investigator not a street officer they wont give you want you are looking for. The Investigator will run the plate number and if you a name. Ask him if possible to talk to your insurance provider for you.

Q:I just purchased a 2007 BMW 335i and was wondering how this may be done. I know I can turn them on by turning on my parking brakes. Also, I can run daytime running lamp bulbs but those look kind of ugly. I just want to have my coronas turn on when my light switch is turned to automatic. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.: The coronas, normally called angel eyes, ARE the DRLs. They come on whenever the parking lights (not parking brakes) are on. They can also come on independently if you have it set up in either i-Drive, or if you don't have navigation then by using your instrument cluster menu system. It's all in the owners manual. Placing the headlight switch into the auto position will turn on the headlights if it's dark enough or if it's raining, which then turns on the angel eyes since the parking lights come on too. If you have DRL turned on as mentioned above, they would be on all the time and then the headlights would come on once it got dark outside. The parking lights are the orange ones on the very outside of the headlight assembly. If you have DRL enabled in whatever menu system you have, they are on all the time regardless of the headlight switch position. The angel eyes are run by a single bulb for each side of the car, a 35 watt H8 to be specific. The inner headlights (what used to be high beams) are the cornering lights and are operated by a 55 watt H3 bulb. These come on individually when turning if the headlight switch is in auto (and it's dark). They also both come on when backing up if in auto. The outside lights are the high and low beam lights, and should be a D1S bulb assuming you have xenon lights. These lights also pivot when turning if switch is in auto (and it's dark).

Q:96 Geo Tracker failed test cause of EGR flow.Had EGR Bypass and EGR control valve replaced.After driving car for a week engine light came on.Tested again and failed again cause of EGR flow.Had o2 sensor replaced. Drove for a few days,engine light came on again. Tested again and failed, again for EGR flow and now system too lean.Dealership can‘t find the problem,but recommended I have fuel injector service,engine decarbonization,and new hoses they didn‘t specify which ones.I‘ve spent over a grand trying to fix and I don‘t want to give the dealer any more money because they haven‘t been able to fix it.Trying to qualify for a waiver from the Illinois emissions but they won‘t give it to me unless the engine light is off,it doesn‘t matter if the car fails. What should I do?Can I perform the engine decarbonization and injector service myself, and if so how?and will that even make a difference?Is there a way to turn off the engine light without disconnectin battery to get qualify 4 waiver?: Yes, an exhaust leak can cause problems like this. So try fixing the exhaust from the head to the muffler. You see one gaping hole, there could be others. Considering that this is one of the few cars that you can find new cast exhaust manifolds for that are aftermarket, it would not be surprising if you need one. The gasket/s I suspect are in the exhaust system and not internal the engine.
