- Q: My friend just bought a used 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. He has already spend a small fortune fixing the car up and now the engine light is constantly on. He was told that is has something to do with the PCM. Also, when he first bought it, the digital light on the winshield was working and now that is out too. Is there something He can do to fix this PCM and have the engine light stop coming on??
- Take the car to Advance Auto Parts or Autozone. They have the code scanner there that you simply plug in and it reads the codes. The scanner will tell you the code and what the fault is. The service engine light is primarily for the emission control system. If it is not a major problem you can use the scanner to delete the code and the light will go off. My Pontiac does that from time to time giving an oxygen sensor fault- so I go to Advance and turn it off. Since they have added more ethanol to gasoline that causes oxygen sensors to go out more frequently- at least that is what I have heard. I'm sure if your friend doesn't know how the use the code scanner one of the store workers will gladly show him how to use it.

- The answer about tyre size is an excellent point, if you have wheels turning at different speeds this will disrupt the ABS computer. When the ABS is activated during heavy braking it will apply and release the brakes as required to prevent wheel lock up. This can be an unnerving experience and can feel very strange but is normal. If your ABS light is still on, it needs checking out. Jules, auto tech/lecturer. Australia.
- Q: I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX 2 Dr. it has cruise control *the guy at the auto parts store asked, so I thought that might matter* and it is a 4 cyl. I am getting ready to sell it, the guy buying it wanted to take it to a mechanic to have it looked over, I agreed. At the end of the inspection, the mechanic said that everything was great except my brake lights didn‘t work. All the brake lights are out. I assumed it was the fuse, as did my BF.but after checking I don‘t see a brake light fuse. I really don‘t want to have to go through each fuse. My brother is mechanically inclined, and said it seems more likely to be the brake light switch as he checked the fuses he thought it was. So what does everyone else think? Faster than the speed of light assumption, auto-rejects the proposal, according to Einstein. Also: - 100,000 years for the light to come from one edge of the galaxy to the other. - 115,000,000 years for the Sun to come from that orbit point to it's diametrical. So the light from the Sun, at the position it was 115,000,000 million years ago, passed by our position at the moment, a good 114,900,000 million years ago.

- If the lights don't come I would suspect the shift motor attached to the transfer case failed. You can tap on the motor with a plastic hammer while someone pushes the button on the dash.

- Q: 2003 Toyota Avalon XLS.The battery was installed in Aug 2013 (before I owned the car) according to the label on it. The battery itself and the connections look good with no rust on the terminals or the wire, however, I did clip and put a new, better end on the negative cause it was slightly questionable. (Still the lights flickered after that). Went to Advance Auto and had them run a battery/charge test. (all the tests were run off the battery) Results:Good batteryVoltage: 13.01VMeasured 539 ccaRated for 575 ccaTemp: 66FCharging SystemNo Load: 14.09VLoaded: 14.11V36mV RippleStill, the lights flicker. Alternator issue? I‘m about to install a 300w amp too.Hmmm. If its the alternator I‘ll obviously just replace it but would like to leave that as a last resort.
- Measure between the negative battery post and the chassis. I bet you have a missing engine to chassis ground. It could also be a bad alternator. They often test good because they get intermittent. Battery and alternator tests in shops are overrated.
- Q: Hi!BASICALLY, the sb-400 doesn‘t swivel sideways, and the sb-600 is nearly as much as I got my camera for lol, so I‘m looking at alternatives, namely the sb-24.I‘ve done my research (as all good boys do before posting a question on Y! Answers) and I understand that I will miss the iTTL-ness of the SB-x00‘s and what this means.The SB-24 is an auto flash, so as I understand it, there‘s a light meter on the front of the flash that calculates exposure (independently of what the sensor sees through the lens) and adjusts the flash accordingly. Does this mean that losing the iTTL is not a major issue if I keep the flash on-camera so that the flash is measuring the same scene as the camera body?Also, can I use flash compensation with this flash?I guess in short, I‘m trying to get an idea of how much of a hassle losing iTTL really is.
