Q: I have a Grand AM GT. My Service Engine Soon light came on recently and I cannot figure out why. I know it is not because of the gas cap because this happened before and back then it was the gas cap and now I religiously turn the cap 3 clicks when putting back on. I recently had a Fuel System Cleaning at Sears and I am wondering if that maybe has something to do with it? The light went off yesterday but came back on today. Also is there an easy way to clear that light, one that doesn‘t require a visit to a mechanic?
Hello With cars they are recommended to be serviced every so often. Yours obviously has an on board reminder. If you check the Service history for your car the next empty on is when the next one is due. This can be because of the Mileage or the time since last service. Andy C
Q: I have a store bought diagnostic machine that the guys who work in the shop and sold it to me said it really does work, which I tend to believe since them saying so could result in them losing money. Anyhow, I have a small emissions system leak, did the gas cap, reset the light, it cam back on. So, I am calling around to see who can fix it for the least amount of money. My local dealership said they would have to still run a diagnostics test running me $100 more dollars even though i can tell them what the problem is. They said their diagnostic will tell them precisely where the leak is, which sounds a little fishy to me, i don‘t think that machine would tell them that, wouldn‘t it be a visual or some other type of inspection other than the diagnostic machine. also, regardless of the diagnostics, how much should this run me so i know who is trying to steal from me and who is being more honest? This is not covered under my extended warrenty.
This is a generally easy question to answer. The leak could be anywhere in your exhaust system. From the exhaust headers on the front/side of the engine, all the way back to the muffler. Generally, though, these leaks tend to be around the O2 (oxygen) sensors. Most cars have 2. Some could have 1-3 of them. Go to an exhaust specialist and ask them if they could help you find the leak. Otherwise, if it is not the exhaust, it could be a vacuum leak in the engine bay. Most engines now have rubber hoses that are all over the engine that allow air to be pulled through various areas of the engine. If you can do it yourself, check all the hoses and see if you can find one that is detached. A good source of reference would be a Hanes auto manual which you can pick up from Auto Zone. Hope this helps! BB2
Q: I recently had my check engine light come on, but then after a few days it went off, now it is back on. So, I took it to Advance Auto Parts and used their diagnostic testing machine and it came back as Emissions Control System Leak EVAP(Large).Does that mean I possibly might just have to replace the gas cap or is it somewhere in the hoses or the vacuum itself? If anyone could help, please do so thanks!
Most common is the gas cap leak. I would replace that fist if that doesn't help it could be a leak in a line.
Q: I would like to find a remote control that goes on my Key chain. So I can turn my accent lights on and off from a distance like 30' or so. kinda like wireless locks on most doors now days? also do they make a modulator for these kind of lights that will make the lights flash in a sequence? if so where can I get them?
. I think it might be illegal to tamper with your lights, but maybe that's only in Canada. But I imagine any shop that can install a car alarm could help you. ...for maybe $400. NAPA or some auto parts store might have some module you can just solder in but it's unlikely.
Q: I believe its a 2004. Had the oil changed yesterday. and today the check engine light came on. took it to auto parts place, they hooked it up and said it was clear and no codes came up. could it have been the oil change? should i take it to a mechanic? it also started to make a rather loud rattling sound, but that was before the oil change, and it only happens sometimes.
mis fires at times can make the light come on, however unless it is a complete dead miss they usually they will not register a DTC code in the system. That possibly could be the issue. I have never heard of an oil change causing an issue with the check engine light. good luck
Q: did it . now driving it in to word the windshield wipers were very slow making me think it not charging. any ideas???? already cleaned posts. already put new battery.
Autozone have said you need a new alternator. YOU think it's not charging. Put these two statements together, and I think it's safe to assume that it needs a new alternator
Q: 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 94,300 miles. Never any maintenance done except oil changes. All original parts except for tires and battery. I had an auto parts store check the code. It was P1457 which indicates there is a leak in the evaporative emission control system in the control canister. The man that checked the code deleted it and the light has not come back on. Should I still have it checked?
It could have been a loose gas cap. Drive it.
Q: Mechanic turned it off using a tool- said it was an old crash sensor code but it came back on the next day. He couldn‘t trouble shoot it any further- only option on his tool was to turn it off. It hasn‘t been hit in years- why would the light start blinking now? I tried to manually reset it following the procedure but it did not work. He said it is probably the sensor in the console. Is there anything else I can do to fix it. I‘ve heard that sensor is $800. Where could I find it for less? Junk yards like to sell with the airbag which I don‘t need. Is this an easy job to do by myself?
The other thing the mechanic didn't tell you is that if the air bag light is on The Air Bags will NOT deploy in case of wreck. That is the computer telling you is detects something wrong with air bag system and it has disabled it. impact sensors are single use items. Once they have been triggered they have to be replaced as far as i know, this would explain your issue. I'm not absolutely certain about the sensor some confirmation would be nice.
Q: But it turns back on after cranking it immediately(sometimesl). After a place like running in to grab food it dies and rapidly clicks. I‘m replacing the alternator tomorrow but can it cause stalling in the streets or is that something else
I suggest you charge your battery tonight, and go down to the auto parts in the morning or whenever and have the charging system and starter checked by the auto parts store, they have a machine they can bring out, But as your battery gets discharged it gets worse and worse and to answer your question YES ITS POSSIBLE THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD
Q: The spoiler light on my 2002 Honda Accord died. I already checked the light itself, and discovered that it is a LED, and not a standard bulb. All other external lights appear to be working normally. Does anyone know if there is a simple fuse that needs to be replaced, or do I have to replace the entire spoiler light itself? I looked at my owners manual, and there was no standard fuse for the spoiler itself.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Resetting check engine light 2002 Honda Accord? Last week I had a tail light out and was checking fuses before I tried switching bulbs. When I pulled a 10 amp fuse the dash display went black. The fuse was ok, so I put it back in. But after I put it back the check engine light stayed on and has been lit since. Is there really a problem with.
