- Q: I am 39 years old, 5‘ 11 and 200ish pounds and looking to buy my first motorcycle. I want a cruiser and have narrowed it down to the Suzuki c50, Yamaha Bolt, or Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Any recommendations for one over the other or am I dealing with a personal preference? The C50 was my first choice, but I am thinking the Vulcan might be the better choice due to front and rear disc brakes. Recommendations?
- Have you actually sat on one? The Yamaha Bolt is a Harley Davidson Iron 883 clone. Both are Standard, not quite a Cruiser -- have your feet more to under you instead of the foot forward position like the C50 or a V-Star. They are also about 50 pounds lighter than the cruisers. I sat on a 883 Superlow and found it physically too small -- and I am 5'9. If I were to get the Bolt I would just get the Harley Davidson The Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki 800-950 are close enough to not matter. The C50 is the only one with rear drum brakes, not that it matters, still better than you will ever need. It is also the only with liquid cooling, which is better for emissions, if you care, I don't. I prefer cast wheels with tubeless tires, less troubles. You might want to check out the Triumph America, similar size and price.
- Q: Was riding the motorcycle and the wheel just locked up. I came to a skidding stop. It won‘t roll, won‘t go in to neutral or shift easily. Am I looking at a transmission or final drive problem?
- I have had failure with the crown and pinion in the final drive and I have also had universal joints go on the drive shaft. Transmissions seldom fail but it is possible, I would start by removing the back wheel
- Q: What brand motorcycle speed fast, shock, and modeling cool, domineering and told me the price.
- Prince Yamaha 10,000 up
- Q: How do I shift? I was told that the bike is ‘four down - one up‘ (though a book I have says that all modern bikes here in the US are ‘four up-one down‘). How do I up and down shift through all the gears?
- (Co3)(-2) it have a million carbon atom 3 oxygen atom all of us comprehend c s valency is +4 Oxygen s valency is -2 So in carbonate os valency is {-3*(2)} -6 carbons valency is +4 So -6+4 -2 i desire its help u Thank u
- Q: Can you add ABS braking to my motorcycle which is Honda VTX 1800.Is it advisable?
- wow so who know wtf a knoc sensor does? its there to retard the timing not advance it to prevent engine knock. engine knock in this case is spark knock wich will cause poor fuel ecomomy and could lead to engine failer. You need to get this fixed
- Q: I have about 8600 mi on my FZ6 and the brakes are fine, but just wondering how to tell when they need to be replaced. I have heard that aftermarket pads make a big difference.
- If you look from the front of the bike into the open end of the caliper you can usually see the pads. The part of the pad that is between the disc rotor and the metal backing plate of the pad assembly is the friction material. Many pad do have a groove cut in the middle of the pad that shows you the wear limit. Many do not have the groove. You look at both the right and left pads and judge how much is left. If there is less than 1/8 of any pad left, it is close to time to replace the pads. Stock pads from your bike's manufacturer work well. I always replace pads with EBC brand HH pads and have always had good luck with them.
- Q: When I press down the rear brakes on my new motorcycle, itmakes very loud screech sound. Is that a factory defects?
- I would take it back to the dealer. A few years ago Harley changed the composition of their brake pads and all the new bikes had a loud squeel when braking. Harley would never admit anything was wrong of course. The problem was solved simply by beveling the leading edge of the pads.
- Q: Hi, guys!I bought my first motorcycle recently, and I‘ve been trying just fine. Today I drop for the first time in the cold, and I noticed issues keeping my bike on even after I had it warm.Well, today I was at a stop sign, and when I made a turn the bike stalled. Wasn‘t quick enough to balance myself and grab the bike so I dropped it.I broke the brake lever, and I noticed there‘s this circle mechanical thing attached. It‘s on the clutch too, but I‘m not sure what it‘s used for. I‘m referring to the chrome/steel circle above.I‘m trying to buy some new levers to replace both, but I‘ve noticed some levers don‘t come with the circle thing above. Even the OEM levers don‘t.So what‘s it for, and do I need it?
- this is simply the adjuster of the span of the brake /cluch lever lets you tune it to your special requirements
- Q: I have a yamaha xs850: shaft driven motorcycle. From what I‘ve seen on sport bikes with chains the rear wheel is supposed to be able to spin freely when the bike is on a stand and in neutral. My bike however does not.The wheel spins but very difficultly. I can hear something rubbing when I turn the wheel with my hands. It is also very hard to push on the ground in neutral its a pain backing out of a parking spot. Is this normal for a shaft driven motorcycle or is there something wrong with the brakes or bearings?
- shafts should be free as a chain; XS850 is now old stock and if your miles are 100k pus, the hub could be wearing dependent on the trans oil change regime. But first, whip off the brake callipers they are the first culprit and you can wheel her along to see the difference; warped disc, sticky calliper sliders etc are the first port of call. If without calliper it still wont turn, you have a hub job on your hands; not a home amateur fix, loads of tricky shimming in there else the new parts will wear disastrously; take the wheel and swing arm to a good mechie.
- Q: Say I'm In 5th gear headed for a red light. Can you please explain all of the steps of braking. Tell me if I have it right1. Pull in the clutch, down shift to 4th and ease off the clutch(without applying and throttle)2. Pull in the clutch, down shift the 3rd and ease off the clutch(with applying throttle)3. Pull in the clutch, downshift to 2nd, ease off the clutch and start applying both brakes and then downshift to 1st.I'm a new rider and my msf course didn't really explain engine braking when in 5th gear.
- I would stop at 2nd, though. If you're going too fast and you go to 1st, it might throw you off.
