Q: can't get the pulleys to line up I know I have a mid 70's 400 and the water pump is later than 1969 but I can't find a pulley that works every one is about a half inch off I bought a aftermarket set of underdrive pulley's from march performance and still the same problem the water pump is a half inch off there was no long or short water pump right they are all the same lenght right??? The only difference I know of is that pre 1968 the pumps have a 8 bolt design and after they have a 11 bolt design is that right???
Actually there was two main pumps for the older ones,, one was called a short shaft,,and one was called a long shaft,,the long shaft was the most popular, and it all depends on whether your car had power steering,,and air conditioning on it,,all the ones that used the long shaft usually had air,,and power steering on them also,,also some of them had a smog pump on them,,this was the main reason they used the long shaft,,most of the smog pumps got taken off and discarded down through the years,,but you still had to use the pump that had the long shaft,,this is the problem your having,,i own a repair shop in Tennessee,,and have been redoing some old cars in the past few years i to have run across the same problem you are having,,you can have a long shaft ordered for you ,,and it will work fine,,i had to use the long shaft on the one i was redoing hope this helps some.
Q: My water pump in my pontiac bonneville 99 went bad, and while I was in the navy, in aviation fuels, some of my job consisted of repairing pumps and valves, and rebiulding them all together, and this water pump from my car seems to have some of the same features of previos pumps i've worked on, usualy when i use to repair pumps, most of the time i just replaced the bearings, just wondering if its do-able, im looking for the cheapist way to fix this, the casing for the pump seems to be in very good condition, but havent got it out of my car yet, im short on tools right now for the moment... thanks in advance for any help...
Don't bother. Water pumps fail on this motor all the time and replacements are plentiful and cheaper than dirt. I won't even use rebuilt water pumps in my shop - we only install new ones because they are much more reliable and the cost difference is literally only a couple of bucks.
Q: how do you check the water pump? We started the engine with water running through the bunny ears and no water is running out.
if its hooked up on the hose, and it doesnt piss, you replace the pump like you should of already done as part of routine maintence. and since you are behind on maintaining that, you are probably behind on everything else too..... the yamaha guy, if your hose only has 5 psi of water pressure instead of the usual 30-40 psi, that is still 5 psi more then the lake has. running on a hose makes it easier for the pump to move water through the engine. even if your impeller has totally broken into pieces, the hose will still push water through your engine all by itself.
Q: Is the pump head related to the water level of the entrance and outlet? If the water level of the inlet and outlet is on the same level, but higher than the height of the pump, does the pump lift need to be coupled with this height difference?
The head of centrifugal pump has nothing to do with the water level of the inlet and outlet. When the water pump installation position is lower than the pool water level, you can enter the pump by gravity, and when the pump installation position is higher than the water level of the pool, it depends on the pump suction process, the effect is good.
Q: as i asked before in my question what needs to be fixed when a water pump goes bad. so finally it went bad today the car leaked all coolant and for some reason all the blades on the fan broke and the battery light came on. which is connected to the alternator belt so thats not the problem. so now does anybody have any idea how much it would cost to fix and by what i know it needs a new belt for water pump and new fan and water pump etc. taking it to mechanic monday but wanna get an estimate first from u people. any ideass thanks
Mate you need to have a look under the thermastat housing on the front of the block remove the fresh air pick up and use a small mirror and light they can warp because they are plastic. You will notice a crusty stain. (This has happened to me) also the reservoir which you fill up can leak from small high pressues leaks to also dont over fill these bad boys as they dont have a over flow. best to get a mechanic to pressure test the cooling system to idenify the leak. as they are expensive to repair once they are really broken.
Q: we are trying to replace a water pump on our ford windstar mini van. my uncle cant figure it out and we can not get a manual until tomorrow. was wondering if anyone knew how. thanks

Q: I recently bought a 01 firebird trans am. was doing some maintenance on it. basic stuff, tune up, serpentine belt, break flush, and a coolant flush. I didn't notice any leakage in the car, and neither did any mechanics before. Last week when i did all these basic maintenance i went back to check up on one more thing. The mechanic raised my car up and asked when I'm replacing my water pump.Seeing that it was leaking...but the liquid wasn't green, more or less brown and it didn't have any particular smell, but its not coming from the oil pan. What I'm thinking is that maybe the hoses were completely tightened? All help would be appreciated! thank you!
you can try to see if the pump is working before you start after it has been sitting ...make sure it is NOT HOT take the radiator cap off start the car and let it run when it warms up the water will start to circulate through the radiator you can see it with the cap off if the is then the pump is working ... check hoses again to make sure they are tight keep an I on your gauge if it starts to get hot it might be the pump or the thermostat itself if in doubt take it another mechanic and get a second opinion
Q: Where is the water pump located in a 1995 Toyota tacoma pick up truck. Please be as specific as possible as the the location of the pump. Like what is it undwr or next to...etc
I agree, the bucket appears like a better thought, but if you are intent on making use of a pump, try this. There are a few producers who make small (in regards to the dimension of a coffee mug) portable pumps that hook to backyard hoses, and run off of drill vigor. You should use a cordless drill, so you don't need power at the pump. The pumps are a few bucks, and available at most historic usual hardware stores. Are attempting Sears. I've also visible an historical style hand pump outfitted with a backyard hose fitting. That you can rig a bracket to hold the pump over the water, with the inlet within the water, and use muscle power to pump the water to your chickens. No suggestion where to buy it although. I hope that helps
Q: does aquarium pump go in water?
It depends on what pump you have. If it is an air pump, no, it does not go in the water. If it is a submersible water pump, yes it does go in the water. Powerheads are one type of submersible water pumps. If it is an external or in-line water pump, no it does not go in the water. Most hang on back filters the pump does not go in the water, but Aqueon is one where it is designed to have the pump in the water. So, what pump/filter do you have?
Q: Hi, my water pump isn't working in my rover 400i V reg 99 model......does anyone know where under my bonet this is located and whether it's easy done at home?
water pumps are never an easy fix. most the time you have to take the fan off, and the radiator as well so a person has room to work. MOST water pumps are in front of the motor, towards the bottom. If you follow your radiator hoses you will find it.
