- If approached and done wisely, the screwing procedure (tightly or otherwise) might want to no longer require extra lubricant! If extra lubricant is needed some step replaced into both skipped or done at a below sufficient factor .
- Q:Example 1:A GP38-2 has a 2000 HP prime mover diesel engine. What are the horsepower ratings of the electric motors geared to the axle? [4 electric motors; 1 on each axle how much HP?]Example 2:An SD38-2 has a 2000 HP prime mover diesel engine. What are the horsepower ratings of the electric motors geared to the axle? [6 electric motors; 1 on each axle how much HP?]I know the tractive effort of the SD unit would be higher, but with 2 more motors on the axles, does it have more horsepower also?
- you must look at the power distribution between 4 and 6 axles as a fraction. you must also realize that at WOT (all 2000 ponies [38-series]) for either an SD or GP, the altenator produces the SAME power output (600amps if i remember correctly?). you are dividing the power available by either 4 or 6. so, you can see here that the GP trac mtrs have more power avail to them. thus why an SD will lug down at low speed longer. takes a bit longer to burn those out because they dont have the power avail to them as a GP. the trac mtrs on GP and SD are the same per class. for interchangability and mass production. so SD trac motors arent smaller. SD's primarily came about as a way to spread the weight out. giving the SD a lighter axle loading than its counterpart GP. for railroads who wanted the high hp, but had light rail. so most everything on a GP38, and SD38 are the same parts. fuel tank, trucks, and frame being the major differences. in essence, both SD and GP 38 series pull the same, they both have the same power output to the trac motors. if either sd or gp trac mtr takes more than it can handle, well, do you smell smoke? you must understand the 'load' is a fixed load. meaning the altenator can only produce so much. basic example: take a 9volt battery. hook 4 xmas bulbs to it. note how well they lite up. now hook 2 more to the chain for a total of 6. notice they all still lite up, but not as bright? thats exactly how it works with traction motors. same power plant in both examples, just a different fraction of power per unit.

- Hello okorder
- Q:Having a basic background in electric and family moving into a remote prefab home with no electric, water, or gas, I decided to help. House and work shed electric requirements are simple, totaling a possible 5kwh at a given time to the shed, and 7kwh to the home. Obviously the home will have constant electric requirements (fridge, fans, etc). I cannot imagine it is economical nor efficient to run a diesel generator 24/7 for energy production as needed. Here are my questions:1. Should I use a stand-alone or emergency backup generator.2. Should I go with the conventional wisdom of choosing a generator that operates at 80% capacity for 1005 of my needs. IE: I need exactly 12kw maximum, so a ~14kwh generator.3. Solar panels have storage batteries. Can I use 12v or 18v, or an industry specific battery to only operate the generator for several hours a day for storgae of power? I know this is incredibly inefficient, any alternatives?Any help is greatly appreciated. Just need to be pointed in the right direction.
- when you are using your generator, if you have out side power turn it off. look for farms some of them have PTO generators they hook up to a tractor.
- Q:I am doing a research project and I can't find anything about there being power plants on Easter Island, Do they have to bring in batteries?
- Electricity, also widely available, but expensive by world standards, is provided by diesel generators to 220v Chilean standard, using a 2-pin round plug. The USA constructed Hotel Hangaroa maintains its American standard 110v 2-pin flat plug.
- Q:I am currently looking for a gas powered generator that I will need to run for 24 hours a day. Which ones would be most reliable for me? Also not trying to spend a ton of money.
- Any generator that is suitable for continuous operation will seem very pricey. If you pretend that each dollar weighs a pound, such a generator will cost a lot more than a ton of money. It will also run on either diesel or natural gas, not gasoline. Contact Generac, Caterpillar, and other generator manufacturers for information.
- Q:Does any one know the best way to go about have an entire house run off of a generator? Mostly likely over periods of no great than two weeks. But it needs to supply a Washer/Dryer, Central A/C, Water Heater, and all of the basics of a smaller house. I did the math and the math says the max I will need is apprx 13,500W. I've done a lot of research on portable, residential, and even green energy, but I am having trouble finding the best way to go about powering a house continually. I need something relatively quiet, or something I can run a ways from the house. And lastly one more curve ball, this is for west TX, so there's not too much rain, especially these days. But it is a desert atmosphere, so I need a way to keep it out of the elements. Any suggestions? Well ventilated shed maybe? Thanks!
- 13.5 kW is pretty large for a portable generator. You might as well bite the bullet and get a permanent or standby generator. If you're looking at supplying power for up to two weeks at time, then you need to think about fuel. That's a lot of gasoline or diesel to be schlepping around, so maybe consider a generator that runs on natural gas or propane. A shed should be OK; just need to vent the exhaust. A standby generator would usually come with its own weather-proof enclosure.
- Q:ANDwhat kind is it? How many times have you had to use it? How many things could you run on it? How much did you spend? Would you buy one with more power next time, or is the one you have sufficient? What types of problems have you had with running it. Do your neighbors always ask to hook up to it?
- I have a Generac 5500XL generator. It's been used on several occasions, the longest being 3 days after Hurricane Juan blew through Nova Scotia in September 2003.
- Q:I know that when a coil is moved between magnets, it produces electricity. how does a generator work without magnets ?one more thing I want to know, what makes the generator turn on when the light go out ?
- Doesn't. Rotor (w/ magnets) spins in a stator (coil). When power transfer switch detects a loss of line power, isolates line feed (to prevent linemen from getting zapped), lines up load feed (to house or wherever) and trips starter circuit to gen-set. Or, you go out to shed, shut off your main, plug in your auxiliary cord, and pull-start the SOB.
- Q:i have an old marine onan generator. It is a two cylinder diesel engine and the block is almost round on the bottom. I thought it was a cummins but im not sure. I know it is vague but can anyone help.
