If your talking about the power cables from the power supply to the motherboard those are fairly straight forward. It is a 20 or, 24 pin connector. Usually along the edge opposite the external connections for the motherboard. Although, the placement really depends on the manufacturer and, could even be near the middle of the board. They are keyed and, you can not plug them in incorrectly. As long as you don't force them into the slot. If your speaking of the wires from the case to the motherboard that is a little more difficult. P3 and, P4 motherboards usually have a keyed connection that simply plugs in. Other boards have markings on each of the wires corresponding with it's connection. The one thing that is the same for every board is that the two black wires must be side by side. If you've never done it before you should have labeled each wire and, made a diagram of their placement. Your best hope short of taking your computer to the local shop is to try and, find diagrams for both your motherboard and, the case.
Q: I bought a XFX Radeon 6970 and I KNOW it is going to need power cables. I just need to know exactly which ones. Please help
It needs 150w through the 8 pin connector and 75w through the 6 pin connector, in addition to the 75w it draws through the PCI bus. You can see the connectors in pictures of the card. These are standard connectors on an ATX12V v2.2 power supply, but you will need to make sure the power supply says 2 x 6+2-Pin for PCI Express power connectors. One or two six-pin connectors alone isn't sufficient.
Q: can i cut my computer Power Supply cables/USB and HDD cable to add an extension myself? They're all short.
Only if you know what you are doing (if you have experience with this kind of stuff). If you get the cables wrong you can fry your power supply, your motherboard, usb, or HDD. If you know what you are doing, then it is fine. It would be best to solder in the extensions, but not necessary. What I do is for each end of the cables that I will join, I divide the individual wires into 2 parts, and then intertwine them with the other cable's wires. Then I individually tape each cable, and finally tape all the cables. *Note: by cable i mean one the black, red, or yellow ones. By wire i mean each individual strand of metal in each cable.
Q: for any SATA 2 HDD, the power connector is longer. compared to the data transfer cable. wht is it so?,-------------- ,------the first set of lines represent the power connector second; the data connection cable.
There are more pins on the power connector (because more are needed).
Q: i cant seem to find a place to put my power cable to the inner part of the car.i dont seem to find a decent place to drill a hole to or the firewall i think its what itscalled, im using a buick regal 1992.... i was thinking of putting it through the door, is that safe?is it done sometimes or not recommended at all?

Q: I found a box of power cables that I could use to hook up my PC and I know some of them were for old CRT monitors. Is it safe to use any of them? I'm not sure which one actually came with the monitor.
From what I can tell, all of the monitor power cables are exactly the same. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work or why it would be unsafe. As long as it fits easily into the LCD and plugs into your power supply then it should be just fine. (P.S. I've used old power cables on newer models before when I lost a cable once)
Q: I recently bought an asustek computer with a 350 watt PSU. Unfortunately, it did not come with a power supply cable. I have a quot;king-cord10 amp 125v 1250w cable numbered KC-003. Will this cord work to power my computer, is it too powerful, not powerful enough? I don't want to plug it in and over power it or somethig. Thanks for the help.
yes it will work aslong as it fits
Q: The difference between a fire resistant cable and a general power cable
We usually say how many square millimeters (wire) refers to the cross-sectional area of the wire core, that is, according to the diameter of the core calculated cross-sectional area. The larger the cross-sectional area of the wire, the greater the capacity of the power transmission.
Q: hello guys, how does a power boost cable works?what is the difference between a usb cable and power boost cable.
It is simply a 2nd USB for power alone, it does not use both USBs to transfer files, just one, the 2nd is just for additional power to improve the performance of the hard disk
Q: when the power cable comes out, the laptop turns off simple as that! it wont work unless the power cable is plugged in and turned on, and its not that the battery is flat because i had it charging all day.so does this mean the battery is broken?if so what do i need to do?? any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Recharge the battery without using the computer at the same time. If this doesn't work you need a new battery and, obviously, someone to do the technical work. Try the geek squad at CircuitCity. It may cost you a little bit but they should be able to fix it or tell you if there is anything else that can be done.
