Q:I have just this cheap low shag carpet in my boys room I want to put down some wood planks. I don't understand why I would have to remove the carpet, it's so low it's not plush. Q:The rug is wool, no backing and about 5x8 and covered in dog and cat hair! Can I do it myself? Or do I need to take it to the cleaners?: carpet machine

Q:Basically, my dad washed the rug with laundry detergent. But he put it in an area to dry, where there is no sunlight. So it didn't dry all the way and ended up creating this mildew smell on it. I decided to wash it again, but this time with a solution called Fiber Cleansing, that is used to fight stains on carpets. And I vacuumed the rug with a wet/dry vacuum to get all the water out of it. I got most of it out, but still had a smell to it. So I decided to pour a box of baking soda all over it, to get the smell out of it. (What the internet told me to do) After leaving the baking soda on there for 2 days, still nothing. The rug itself is pretty dry now, still a bit damp on the underside of it. It still smells. What can I do?: The problem is that most things that get mildew out also take out the color. Can you put it in sunlight with out it getting wet again? Maybe a diluted bleach spray on the back side for just a few minutes - if you don't think it will go through to the colored fibers?? But be careful - if you get bleach on the front you will lose the color and can't get it back.

Q:Have you or anyone you know had any allergy problems after getting new carpet?: yes...so see a Dr and get some meds or go to the store and get some OTC meds..

Q:I had a puppy, that urinated on my carpet, I would clean the spots, and of course discipline the dog.... BUT it made my home smell like urine.... so I had some carpet cleaning people come out and clean my carpets now that the puppy is fully house trained and now my house smells like wet dog, urine, and this sour, mildew wet smell. Q:I have never washed a winter rug and my horses really needs doing but I'm not quite sure how !?Dry cleaners ?In the bath tub? Although you can never get them perfect I wash them in the hottest water available. I do not care about color washing out. I want them clean. I also use either a blanket cleaner or I just buy the soap for infants that way it does not irritate their skin next winter. But before I take them I usually leave them over a fence during the spring rain to help wash as much of both sides. I usually rotate between big storms to clean both sides. I also don't want my care to smell to bad. I love horses but my job requires taking people around in my car. Just my 2 cents.

Should I go with the Rug Doctor, which I used to rent and know it cleans perfect but very expensive ($700). or should I buy any other cheaper brand? I have an older brother and sister-in-law who have one. They used it on dog stains in there house. I worked terrific.

Q:I recently moved into a duplex in an older house. The apartment is nice enough but I noticed a smell that I could never quite get rid of no matter what I did. It was almost like mildew.
