Q: I am moving into a foreclosure. The carpet is badly stained in some areas. I can't afford to replace all of the carpet. Do you know how to effectively remove stains from carpet? Resolve doesn't work.
The issue is and always has been, less about the carpet and more about the padding. Certainly Hundreds of products are sold claiming to reduce or remove stains, and given that most carpet fibers are synthetics, they all may have some moderate success. It may also depend in large measure, on what caused the stain in the first place, and I promise you any WET attempts, no matter Who the PRO Cleaner is, who does the job,,, will leach to the padding. The same can be said for those machines so many rent from the grocery store. The problem will show soon enough, in that the stain, or some of it will appear to be gone from the carpet, but at least some of it will end up in the pad. Then as the carpet fibers will dry first the Moisture in the pad, along with the stain, will leach back up, into the carpet. Many PROS also use a Bonnet technique; similar to dry cleaning clothing. The machine (looking like a floor buffer) is fitted with an absorbent pad. Some chemical substance sprayed from an ordinary spray bottle is applied as the BONNET is then rotated over the stained area, gathering whatever amount is possible, into the Bonnet pad, while keeping a moisture level low so as to NOT allow seeping into the pad. In reality, if you want to keep this forecloser or even FLIP it you should probably pull the carpet, and at the very least replace the pad. You'll notice years of abuse that may not show on the carpet surface. Also to do the WET approach, even Stanley Steamer the likelyhood is that any leached substance/stain will add aromas to the house, when wet, that you might not enjoy, IE: Pet Urine. Steven Wolf
Q: The carpet is short berber type carpet.
You don't say whether it's still wet or has dried. If it's wet, blot as much as you can and then pour Karpet or baking soda on to the stain to soak it up. Then after half an hour vaccuum it. To the remaining stain use nail-varnish remover on a cloth and rub in circles from the outside in, to dissolve what's left and remove it. If it's a nylon carpet, the nail-varnish remover might not be a good idea. I don't know if it would dissolve the fibres it but it might. In that case I would use orange oil or eucalyptus oil instead of the nail-varnish remover. Good luck.
Q: My cat has torn up a couple of sections of the carpet in my apartment. I went to Lowe's hardware and they have the carpet I need in stock. However, I keep getting the runaround about what I need and what I need to know to get what I need. I was told that I need to find out how my carpets are installed. I don't want to ask the apartment people because they will charge me a ridiculous amount of money to fix the situation. I have Shag carpeting in my apartment. I do not know how it's laid onto the floor. Is there a way that I can find that out? Also, is there anything else that I need to know? I haven't found any help regarding this except getting the runaround. Please help a girl out! :)
you can call a carpet place to send a guy out. they have to cut out the section, then sew the carpet together or use tape. good luck buddy
Q: I want to buy this shortsale house that has carpet that animals have used the bathroom on. The carpet is not worn and is a very expensive type. I was thinking that if I removed the carpet, set it up on saw horses in the back yard, and cleaned it using a mixture of bleach water and a pressure washer. I would then let it dry completely, spray it down with febreeze and then reinstall it in the house using new padding. Does anyone have any experience doing something like this? I did the same thing to my truck carpet but I know that was probably a little different.
My favorite method for cleaning carpets involves renting a carpet machine for the weekend, NOT buying the cleaner that they offer, and instead using lemon scented ammonia and plain vinegar with hot water in the cleaning machine. This is a very clean rinsing formula that will cut grime and pet odors without damaging the carpet. New padding is a must but you can clean the carpets and then pull them outside to dry while you replace the padding and mop the underfloor with the sudsy ammonia and vinegar mix. 2 cups ammonia 2 cups vinegar 1 full tank of hot water on the carpet machine Please remember! Keep all bleach and bleaching products away from the ammonia! Once the carpets and floor are dry the ammonia is dispersed and you will not have to worry about a negative chemical reaction in the future.
Q: how to wash the carpet?
but generally it is very expensive. The laundry is going to give you a wash, and the expenditure is enough to buy a new after three or four times: Find a place with water (a toilet is ok), wash carpet just like you wash the shoes, extremely simple, use some good washing things like comfort softener , there is no need to use washing machine, just wash it and hang out in the sun, because many things are hand washing in the laungry
Q: Our carpet in our apartment is starting to fray and my 8mo old likes to pick at the strings and pull them up and I'm afraid she's going to destroy it so I want to buy a rug for that area. We're on a really tight budget so I want to buy a used one, but I don't trust that it will be clean knowing it'll probably end up in her mouth eventually. How would you wash one and would it be cost effective vs just buying new?
fraying carpet should be replaced. You should contact ur landlord to fix it. You shouldn't have to pay a dime That is why people rent.Throw in that u r afraid the baby will get the fibers in his.her mouth and that would not be good.A light may go off in the landlords head....lawsuit? fraying carpet is not acceptable in an apartment
Q: How to deal with the cigarette ash on the carpet?
The ash is alkaline, pour some vinegar to dissolve it, and then wash it by water.
Q: How to clean the carpet wax?
Spray the carpet with a stain and then scrub it into the carpet with a spoon. Dry quickly with a white towel, then let the carpet dry naturally (before it dries completely, it will look a little darker). Light carpets and dark stains may need several washings to recover.
Q: Hi there,We will soon be replacing our old, ugly carpet and baseboards with new. I'm wondering what should be installed first - the carpet, or baseboards? What material is best suited for baseboards? Thanks for your help!
Capet goes first, cuz if you ( or some body else ) instals baseboards fisrt and they are to close to the floor, then the carpet will not go under it as it should. Once the carpet is in place, then you come with the baseboard, pine, oak, plastic ( which is one of the newest materials for baseboard ) then sinply go on top of the carpet, not worring about the high, ( thickness of the carpet ) then finish it with a nice line of caulking. Even netter if you plan to paint the walls after, but if not, just make sure you clean nice the caulking whit a wet clean rag ti leave a nice finish. make sure the caulking it's NOT silicon, as silicon it's more dificult to clean, unless you know about it; then you know you can clean silicon with a damped rag in mineral spirits, but if you are not familiar with this, don't even try, specillay with you'r new carpet in place. At least this is the best way works for my, and I have had doing it many times.
