Q:I'm only 18 and don't know much about cars, but my car was overheating so me and my boyfriend brought it to a mechanic.They told me it needs a new timing belt and water pump and that alone would be like 1450.. We have owned Honda's for years, including three 90's Civics. We have had the timing belts changed by the dealer also - also the cheapest price - and they have always recommended changing the tensioner and the water pump while in there. The timing belt is such a critical piece of equipment that is should be changed on schedule. The new belts go much longer than the old belts. But it's only a hundred more at most to have the water pump replaced at the same time so make them do it. If you water pump goes out in another 20000 miles, the labor charge to get to it will be 400 or 500 bucks. Most dealerships will do the water pump for parts cost markup if they are also doing your timing belt. You can also negotiate your price with a dealership. Try it. If they won't budge, find a new dealer.

water pump is timing belt driven, so you have to pull all of the belts off, the timing belt cover and that belt also. if that belt has not been replaced in 80,000 miles. you want to do that. i had a 93 civic and a 90 civic that i did the belt and pump in at 230,000 miles. it takes a little time but it is not that bad. the harmonic balancer has to come off for the timing belt also.

Q:ok some one put sugar in my gas tank i had to replace my fuel pump and now i have sludge that's eating th inside of my radiator hoses and my water pump went and of course that's timing driven and my timing belt is awful tight i cant put a finger in between it ....and my car is not car water so i cant drive it and i don't have money to blow to take it to a shop any help u can offer will help and i know i am going to replace my water pump and info for when i do that will help and answers to the sludge (its like a Vaseline) and how to find out if its in my motor or my brand new radiator ? me plz i am a 18 yr old girl with knowledge about cars and have friends to help me and my mom so any helpp will help and is better then none
Correct okorder /.... Sugar in the tank, is a MYTH. The problem you have, is NOT due to someone putting sugar in the tank. Secondly, your fuel system doesn't connect at all to your radiator. So, replacing a fuel pump has nothing to do with sludge in your coolant. So, is the sludge in the coolant, or the fuel? Because honestly, your question makes no sense right now. Edit: I didn't correct your spelling. I corrected the fact that you are incorrect about sugar in the tank doing anything. IF anything, it would have clogged your fuel filter. Not your fuel pump. Go read the article.
Q:i own a 02 gti 337 i bought back in 04 the water is leaking bad and im pretty sure the water pump has gone bad on it i had it replaced awhile back but the check engine came on it isnt this time so i think its just a leak from the seal my question is where is the water pump located is it on the timing belt or is it on a seperate pulley i dont wanna mess with the timing belt and i dont have the money to get this replaced so any help would be great thanks
