Q: Can you represent a ceiling function with a floor function? How?
ceiling(x) = -floor(-x) Proof that this works: If x is an integer, it obviously works. If x isn't an integer, we can still split it into an integer n and a number d in the range (0,1), so x = n + d. (If d is 0, the claim is obviously true, so we can ignore that case.) Then floor(x) = n and ceiling(x) = n + 1. Now, -x = -n - d. Since -n - d is between -n - 1 and -n, floor(-x) = -n - 1. So -floor(-x) = n + 1 = ceiling(x).
Q: I am looking at a home from 1939. i know asbestos was used from like the1970's back very often.i want to lay down different flooring in the kitchen, however i do now want to mess with the removal of the crap(asbestos)is there a way to put flooring down without having to get all this professional removal done. and no i don't want to mess with doing it myself either.
If the floor is in good shape, and there no local ordinances about removing the previous tile why not. If there is asbestos in the flooring, which I doubt, It is safer to leave it where it is and seal it under a new floor. Pry up a corner and look to see how many layer you have though. It may be that things are getting kind of tall in that kitchen in relation to the adjacent floors. If there is damage in the old floor and gaps between tiles you will want a filler product and check to see how level the floor is too. You may have to level it if it has deformed appreciatively over the years. Check some of the DYI sites here on the web some have very good tutorials and product recommendations.
Q: I asked this question earlier, but only got one reply..so I deleted it and decided to ask again. Ok, my husband and I bought a nightclub a year ago. This place belonged to my uncle and he had a painted concrete floor as a dance floor and of course we still do. It use to be a car repair place and a cattle butcher place in the past, so the concrete is old, and has oil on it so the paint comes up not very long after you paint it. So..what are my options? Something relatively cheap to make the dance floor more inviting? I would love to know what to use to make it easier on the legs and easier to clean. Thank you!
Yes, I have danced on concrete floor. Only for 1 month of my training. I'm not quite sure it was designed for dancing, but there was a layer of smooth wood surface glued directly on it. Long story short: very bad for your joints. Don't do it, if you're talking any kind of professional of semi-professional dancing. All the shock from every step you take gets absorbed in your joints, bones and muscles, there in no rebound from the floor. Dancing feels very different because of that, kind of dead. For a school dance, back in the days, it was just fine. Our school dance was always in a hall with a concrete floor. But it only happeded like twice a year, and you hardly make any actual steps when you dance like that. You kind of shake your body with the rhythm of music, the floor doesn't matter so much.
Q: We think we should refinish the floors first, in case stain gets on the floorboards, but on the other hand, paint could get on the floors. Which is the bigger danger? Advice?
You should finish after.
Q: living room and bedroom have really bad stripped wood floors whats the best way to get the shine and strength back to them? ive tried mop and glow pledge floor cleaner and murphys oil and none have worked
Since the floor is already partly striped you will need to get the rest of the old finish off. Once the old finish is off, you may need to sand the floor to make it nice and smooth. Clean the dust up real good and put down a good sealer or sealer/stain combo. Once you have that done then you can put down a good wax and you should be in good shape. If the floors have a lot of traffic on them you might ask for a wax like is used on a gym floor. It will last longer than a bottle wax but it isn't real cheap. Just ask the folks where you are buying it and they can tell you. Just make sure the floor is clean before you put down the sealer and wax.
Q: i live in canada and really like tatami. only one problem. are they like mats, or soft flooring, or hard flooring. basically is tatami flooring or just mats?? thanks!
it's recommended that you also do not wear shoes on this flooring as it wears down the tatami mats quickly. Hope this helps!
Q: I have vinyl 12"by12" tiles that I am putting on concrete floor Henry 430 vinyl composition tile adhesive. The concrete floor is not perfectly even. In some places the gap could be as much as 1/8". I am trying to use the adhesive glue to fill this gap. Will this work? Can I use the glue to make my floor more even to put the tiles on. Thank you.
You need to float the floor to make it flat. Do NOT use extra adhesive. It will never dry and will come up between the tiles for years. Use any good brand of float, Henry has one. Sand after it drys for a completely smooth floor. A pro installer will spend MORE time with the prep than the installing.
Q: I have laminate floors and someone told me to use swifter wet jet but it kind of leaves streaks so I would like something that leaves my floors nice and shiny. Any suggestions?
I swear by Murphys Oil Soap.... You buy it in a bottle and it's kind of a thick liquid... Mix it with water per the directions in a bucket and mop... No rinsing necessary and I swear your floors will look wonderful. No filmy residue and just a nice clean floor
Q: Home ready to install the wood floor today saw a feeling that they are not good to say that the floor of their home is not easy to deformation of the wood is also easy to deformation anyway wood to hides the assembly of locusts, Check the pine wood belongs to the cork can not do the wooden floor? Q: I have a oak floor that was sanded about 3 mos. ago....a beautiful job you'd never know it was a floor over 50 yrs. old. the person who did this is a perfectionist and it shows. unfortunately by accident there is a small scratch...looking for suggestions on touching up scratches on a wood floor, some people say mix cigarette ashes and cooking oil...not sure that's a good choice plus we don't smoke and neither do we have anyone close who does. is there a better suggestion thanks.
Call the person who did your floors. He likely knows of a real product that you can use to hide the scratch. It will depend on what products he used to finish your floor so don't just try something randomly. It will have to be compatible with what is already on the finished floor. Beyond that, you might consider that scratches are going to happen and get over that first imperfection in your floor with the understanding that it's going to show wear eventually.
