Q:I am an amateur to the cleaning business and have been hired to strip and reseal some laminate floors. The person that sealed it last seems to have used some sort of rubber sealant, and I am having an incredibly hard time getting it off. I don't have a professional floor scrubber, so have just been using a mop, a scrub brush, and a wet/dry vaccuum. I have been using Zep Heavy Duty Floor Stripper. Are there any stronger floor strippers out there that I can use? Any suggestions or tips??: You need to rent a electric floor stripper, they are heavy, use a wide variety of pads, and work fast and efficiently. doing this floor by hand is an effort in futility. I purchased a used floor stripper for $75.00 and have used it numerous times. Check with any janitorial supply store and ask a few questions. They will have the liquid floor strippers and pads you require, the aerosol spray for difficult corners, and heavy duty wax available for sale. Use a squeegee to push the dissolved (liquid ) old wax to a central location and suck it up with a shop vac. Clean the shop vac thoroughly after each use. Occasionally you can attend a class at the janitorial supply center when they are held, get on their mailing list. Give the floor 3 coats of new wax with long intervals between each coat. Use a box fan to speed up the drying process.

Q:I am about to redo the flooring in one of my bedrooms. I will be storing scuba equipment in this room and it will also be a computer room. What would be the best flooring to put in here. I don't think carpet , ceramic tile or hardwood floors would be a good choice because some of this equipment is heavy and could crack the ceramic tile and sometimes this gear may be a little bit wet so carpet is out .Any idea's?: good thought!! i presently ripped up the carpet in my bedorom so i'm going to have the hardwood flooring for a similar reason(2 pets). Do you where i can get some.: Try checking on TV programs like This Old House, and places like Habitat Restore Call your local Habitat for Humanity , if you don't find their restore in your phone book. Look in old DIY magazines for place that sold the flooring at the time. They may still be in operation and sell what you are looking for. Short of that, a master carpenter should be able to make you some repacement pieces. My Dad was a master carpenter....thats how I know IT CAN BE DONE !!! Just be sure you get one who knows what he is doing...there are some carpenters that aren't worth the sawdust in their clothing or ears. Check with a local reputable carpenter shop, they may have a carpenter willing to work on the side to help you out. I would recomend my Dad but he is now with The Master Carpenter and has been for many years now. Parquet flooring is beautiful flooring. But if all else fails; buy the thin parquet flooring to match and fill in with some plywood as back filler. Depending on the thickness of the original flooring, you can use several thin layers of plywood or one thickness plus a thin to get the right thickness. Example: 3/8 ths + 1/4 th, 5/8ths +1/4th, or several of the 1/4 th inch plywood. You may have to sand it down a tad depending.... Hope this helps you out...I tried to think of as many places as I could. Oh, try salvage stores...sometimes they are are almost as good as the Habitat Restores. :-)

I understand your question very well, I also am on a budget, and I solved the same problem....temporarely. I assume you have plywood floor? I sanded mine, and then I painted it, and when the paint was dry I put a nice rug over it. This looked real good, and lasted for about 2 years, after that I had enough money saved to install a great looking wood floor. I bought the real McCoy through my local buy and sell and paid for about 400 sq 65.00 dollars. And the bonus was that I didn't have to rip anything apart when it was time to have the new Floor installed. By the way I still use the same rug. Perhaps this will help you. Good luck.
