Q: I have Brazilian Walnut flooring throughout my downstairs. I have used every wood cleaning product known to man and still have dull floors. The latest thing I did was apply amonia to strip the floor of all of the products I have used and WOW what a mistake! I can now see splatters and scrub marks all over. Can someone please offer any advise??: The floor may be dull from the different products used on it. You may consider hiring a hardwood floor contractor to buff and recoat the floor. This is a very simple process that usually runs $1 per square foot and takes only about 1-2 hours to do. This will remove some surface scratches and bring back the shine for a fraction of the cost of a full sand and refinish. It involves very little mess. Then after you have the floors recoated use Bona hardwood floor cleaner. they even make a spray mop similar to the wet swiffer.

Q: I have old hardwood floors throughout most of my apartment. I have been using Murphy's Wood soap, and the floors feel clean to the touch, but there's always black on the bottom of our socks and the floor look murky, like there's a gray film over them. I have small kids so I want to try to avoid anything too harsh, but I'm getting sick of these floors. I wash them at least three times a week and they still look dirty. Any ideas?: I wish I could see it but since I can't. Do you wear shoes in the house? If you have a lot of people traffic you may want to go to a no shoes rule. Get a good doormat. Mopping is sometimes not abrasive enough but if it feels clean maybe that is not the answer. Bleach the kids socks or soak them in Oxyclean. I love Murphy's oil soap it's good stuff. Start looking around for attractive rubber backed throw rugs. If the floors don't look good cover 'em up. Kohls and Marshalls are good places to look.

Q: i just moved into a home that has parquet floor through the house but is covered by carpet in almost all rooms i want to know how much it cost to fix up the floor after removing the carpet, i already heard its a whole lot of work: Most of your parquet flooring is only a 3/8 ths and 1/2 thick and is a laminated product and can t be sanded down a lot. It would depend also if the flooring is a wax or a urethane finish.. You may have to call in a flooring person to get a look at it and determine exectly what you need to do.. Q: I intend on putting vinyl flooring over top.Plywood or leveler?: Leveler is usually enough, but with vinyl tile it will show any small imperfection or bump. But if you properly apply a leveler and maybe a little thin- set where needed you can make your smooth. You might want to use the mastic type of tiles verses the peel and stick variety, but both types should work just fine.

Q: I have laminate kitchen and title bathroom floors, and recently they have been so sticky. I've tried simple green, pine sol, plain water and a swiffer mop. Yet our feet still stick to the kitchen and bathroom floor. What can I do?: The problem is that you are sticking to what you are mopping with. When you mop you should use the hottest water you can get, dilute some cleaning solution that you use, (I use bleach since it also sterilizes) mop the floor applying the cleaner liberally. The dry out your mop and mop up the liquid that is on the floor. After you have cleaned the floor, rinse out your mop with clean water (very hot), wring as much water out or the mop as you can and damp mop to pick up the residue. Let it air dry.
