Q: My dad bought a boat this winter and when we got it we watched the guy winterize it. He was doing this white it was running on muffs. We got the boat to run today (on muffs) but no water was coming out the pee hole. This is the first boat we have owned. We are rookies. We also don't to take it to a dealer. Is there anything we're doing wrong? I don't know for sure what year the motor is i think a 1900 something. It is 90 horse.
PANIC RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES AND PANIC! Especially if you use the term PEE HOLE! There are many possible causes so take it to some body who knows what the are doing otherwise it's going to get very very expensive!
Q: It is known that it takes an hour to pump water, and also to know the head. How does the pump power need to be calculated? What's the formula?
Power P (kw) =9.81*Q (second cubic meter) *H (head, unit m) / efficiency; The efficiency can be found on the pump nameplate or sample. This is the rated power, if the head down, the flow increases, the power will increase, so the actual motor power is often much larger than this calculation.Generally buy pumps are equipped with motors, manufacturers can refer to the same model or similar models of motor power.
Q: What I am trying to explain is that I took my vehicle to be serviced for a water pump. They installed it, but when I got my vehicle back, it started making this clicking noise. I took it back to be diagnosed and they came back to me saying that I need a new engine? (Before I took in my vehicle there was no clicking sound or problems, just the water pump.)Could this be the dealer trying to pull something for their mistake or what?
a stuck open thermostat will cause the engine to run colder, this will trick the computer into thinking the engine still needs to warm up and the fuel mixture will stay very rich. that could explain the fuel mileage issues. I don't think the bolt is a problem. The hose at the top should be hotter than the bottom hose, that means your radiator is doing its job, cooling the engine's coolant before it goes back into the engine.
Q: How can we calculate the maximum pump pressure for chilled water system for a 20 story building
In addition to what was said earlier you will also need to consider the following. Pipe frictional losses will need to be calculated. If there is a control valve or flow element then need to add 3 to 5 psi. If the chilled water goes thru a piece of equipment there will be a pressure loss across that, (example - cooling coil on an air handling unit, air separator etc) this can range from 3 to 20 psi, the equip vendor should be able to provide this. If your pumps are on the ground floor, you might be able to neglect the pressure due to elevation if the loop remains pressurized by the pump(s). Might be a good idea to have an engineer review this who has sized pumps before.
Q: Ac was working fine before the mechanic replaced the water pump. Now the AC only blows hot air. Is this related?
i used some product i've got been given at checker vehicle areas to fix a head gasket that grew to become into blown into the coolant device. that they had some distinctive types, some properly suited with coolant, some not. i've got been given the stuff that grew to become into properly suited with coolant. i'm very sceptical on stuff like this, in spite of if it has labored so a procedures. i paid like $30 for it. i grew to become into surprised
Q: I just replaced my starter on my mustang and i when i took it out for a test drive i noticed the engine temperature rising. i drove for maybe 2 minutes max and when i parked the car it had a small amount of white smoke coming out of the engine so i let it cool down, and when it cooled down i checked the radiator, it had absolutely no anti-freeze, which is weird because i had just put a gallon of 50-50 anti-freeze maybe a week ago. So to test it i put 3 cups of water in the radiator turned her on and water was spilling from the water pump. So me and my dad have concluded we have to replace the water pump. I called up Autozone and they have a water pump replacement kit for $70. We don't have money too pay for the labor so can some1 please give me a step by step guide to replacing the water pump.
So did you get it changed? mine just broke. do you got any pointers?
Q: I own a Camaro 1995 V6 3.4L automatic, it was diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and I was going to take it in on Saturday 3/1/08. But this morning I drove it and it seem that the car is losing power the RPM goes all up to 4-5 thousand to make a speed change. The car seems to stall like if it gets stuck the RPM goes up and eventually the next speed kicks in. I will be taking the car in tomorrow 2/27/08 to see whats wrong but I was hoping maybe someone knows whats wrong so that I can have an idea before someone tries to take advantage of me. I do know that the car started leaking water/coolant more than before after that little drive in the morning. The car is very well kept oil change is always on time .I always make sure that the water and the oil is level. transmission fluids are clean. I do know that the EGR Valve needs to be replaced. (hope this info helps)thank you
If your car is overheating due to water pump leakage, sure it can lose power! Also, if the pump is binding up, the bearings can slow the motor some, but the belt might be squalling badly by then. You may have other problems not related to the pump, like vacuum, or low trans fluild. Egr valve bad, hmm. Don't think it could make you lose that much power. Although if it's leaking BADLY, then it might because that's your intake charge, and if the exhaust gases are overwhelming it, then yeah you might be losing power big time, but I've never seen one do that, just my experience or lack of with that problem. Good luck. - The Gremlin Guy -
Q: The water pump doesn't seem to be leaking but I do have a leak under the engine in a place I can't get to. The water doesn't seem to be getting to the upper hoses of the engine. I do hear a odd sound like lose rocker arms but its hard to tell where its coming from. This engine is to big for this boat there is no room to work on it except to pull the engine. What was Four Winns thinking??? A simple fix is a major repair. Thanks
Welcome to the world of boating. We used to have to cut out a hole on the seats to change oil filters on the first service. I feel your pain! Your recirculating pump and your raw water pump are two separate systems. If your upper hoses are running dry I would check the raw water pump first. The rocker noise would concern me more. To separate the noise, run the engine on a garden hose attached to the incoming line inside the boat from the raw water pump when the lower unit is removed for the raw water pump job. That will separate the possible sources for the noise. If the noise followed the lower, check u-joints, gimbal bearing, gear housing. If it is still there, check the oil for water, and the recirculating pump, and valve lifters.(who knows, it might actually be a lifter.)
Q: first off i should say it is below freezing here....with that said, the water pump pulley is not turnning so.. the fan belt busted which leads me to believe the water pump is frozen...... right?i am currently traveling and have little money to spend on a new water pumpis there any way that anyone may know to dethaw a frozen water pump without damaging it?... i should say, the motor is running great, no cracks or leaks from the cold.
One way is since you have no belt is to start the car and let it run for a little while. The heat from the engine can defrost the pump. Be careful to not overheat it. You need to drain the water and add coolant if it gets that cold there. A block heater wouldn't hurt. You can also use a heat gun. It looks like a blow dryer, but is made for longer use and gets hotter. Don't use a torch. It can ruin the seals on the pump or set your car on fire.
Q: My house uses a pump that draws well water. With a family of four, I had never had a problem running out of water, even through 4 morning showers. Recently however, I have started running low and sometimes even run dry of water, although it’s now just me and my wife living at home. The pump is only a couple of years old. A couple of neighbors also have wells and pumps, so I don’t believe the water shelf has run low. The holding tank is at least 15 years old and probably older. I don’t know if it has a bladder, but I think it does. It’s a Wel-Trol brand. I’ve checked the pressure with a tire gauge and it holds at 30 psi. Also, it seems the cut in and out switch has a mind of its own. It especially would continue to run, even though the pressure hit cut-off level. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks
Hmmmmm. I think I would look at the pressure switch here if you can confirm that the well does have adequate water in it. The next thing is the small pipe that the pressure switch mounts on. If it is galvanized these have a tendancy over the years to build up deposits and rusty scale and may need to be replaced. It sounds like you have the bladder style of pressure tank and that is a good thing. To check the proper pressure in the bladder watch to see the cut off pressure of the pump as it cycles. Note this. Turn the pump off and completely drain off the pressure tank. Check and adjust the pressure at the top of the Wel-Trol to be 2 to 4 pounds less than the pressure cutoff that you noted using compressed air. As the other posts have mentioned you also may have a leak in the pressure line to your house. The way to test this is turn off all the water to the house and see if there is a check valve in the T at the pressure tank. It will look like a tube about 2 inches in diameter and 4 inches long. Usually there is not one here as they clack when the pump shuts off. If there is not one note the pressure. See if it drops. There should be no drop. If it is a drilled well there may be a leak in the pipe down the well and this usually requires a visit from a well servicing company to determine. Hope this helps.
