Q: I recently bought a 1992 Honda Accord. It has high mileage but the records kept on it were impecable up to about the last 3 years. I have read that you need to replace the timing belt/water pump every 80k miles. However; I do not know when it was changed last. The Only record in the book on the subject was back at 90k miles. That was the first time they had the timing belt changed.So How do I know its time to change it again? The car now has 199k miles. I do not want to do unnecessary work before time, however; I also know that the affects it will have on the engine is great if its not done within the right TIME! Is there anyway to know it needs to be done? What kind of signs will the car give? And how much is it going to cost me when it has to be done? Thanks!: can't tell you the price, don't know where you live and where you get yoiur work done, call around.. belts need to be replaced when they're worn. look for cracks, frays and listen for squealing. (sometimes the water pump will squeal when it's bad...) otherwise, take the car in to someone you trust and have them look at it..ESTIMATE only..

Q: mercury 9.8hp.installed a new water pump impeller and still no water circulating through engine. no blockage anywhere. now what??? i`m stumped at this point.: I have seen this many times on 9.87.5Merc'sThere is a plastic o-ring under the power head and it is probablly melted closed.There is a way to fix it without removing the powerhead.Remove the lower unit and pull out the water pickup tube.Then use a piece of brake line 5/16th sharpen on a 45 degree angle and push up the opening for the water pickup to open the passage.This will fix your water problem.

Sounds like you blew a hose. Open the hood on your car and see if you can find where the coolant is leaking from. If you find a hose that is ruptured, replace it and refill/bleed the cooling system.

Q: Hi. This car is 66 chevy but the motor is a 1984 chevy 350 4bolt main stroked to 383. I think its an '84, might be an '85. I need to replace fan clutch and water pump.... the fan clutch is bad but manufacturer of the replacement parts says you must do water pump and fan clutch together. Is the pump a 66 chevy pump or a 350 small block pump? What about the fan clutch? Ok, and please help with motor mounts. do I use mounts specific for 66 model or specific to the motor?: It's a Gen 1 small block V8. There are only two types of small block water pumps, long shaft and short shaft. Short shaft pumps were used on pre 1968 motors. The long pump measures 7 1/4 from the mounting surface to the outside of the clutch mounting flange, the short pump measures 5 5/8. The mounts should be for a small block in the same body type you are using it in. Back in the 50's there was a different mounting system that bolted to the front of the block, but everything since then is compatible. By the way, if the motor is in a 1966 body with the standard radiator, use the short water pump, iron or aluminum makes no difference except in cost.
