Resistance of a wire in Ω R = ρL/A ρ is resistivity of the material in Ω-m L is length in meters A is cross-sectional area in m? A = πr?, r is radius of wire in m resistivity Cu 17.2e-9 Ω-m 3.87 cm? = 3.87 e-6 m? R = (2*915)(17.2e-9) / (3.87 e-6) = 8.13 ohms 80 kW at 200 volts is a current of 80000/200 = 400 amps You cannot put 400 amps through an 8 ohm resistance, as that requires a voltage of 3200 volts, which we don't have. So the premise of 80 kW is not possible. Perhaps you copied one of the numbers incorrectly. .

- As the resistivity of copper and aluminum are different,to have the the same resistance,the sections are different. The losses per cable are Ri^2 = 0.15*500*50^2 ( just for the sake of completness,the power transmission lines have three cables) If you take lenght 1km you have to use0.15 ohm,which is the same as using 500km and R =75 ohm Be careful to use the same units of lenght in resistivity and distance. - Q: So I have a subwoofer in my trunk and was wondering if I could use the big power cables (coming from my battery) going into the amp (which is a JL Audio JX1000) to power some LED's that I want to install. My plan was to cut out a small section of the rubber sheath (or whatever you call it) from each power cable and put the clamps from a power inverter on them, then plug my LED's into the power inverter. After putting the clamps on I would use electrical tape or something to cover any exposed areas of the cable. Would this work? If it does work, which color clamp (black/red) would i put on which cable? One says quot;groundand is blue and the other says quot;+12VDCand is red. Also I have a toggle switch near the driver seat to cut the power from the amp so the LED's won't be left on after the car is turned off. - It sounds like the problem is one of three things. Either the power cable is the wrong voltage/amperage (these should be labeled on both the charger and the bottom of the laptop and/or battery) If the charger specs don't match the battery specs, it can cause this to happen. Maybe there was a mess-up that caused your to receive the wrong charger. The second possibility is that the battery is bad. A third possibility may be the connection from the battery to the laptop. It may not be making a good connection or could have some internal circuit problems. In any case, if the laptop is still under warranty... I would try returning it. Even if the problem can be fixed from the above suggestions, a problem like this early on tends to be bad news of what lies ahead.

- For the level of equipment that most people have it will not be a noticeable difference. In fact in the ultra high end equipment side it doesn't make a huge difference anyway. However those who want the absolute best possible sound spare no expense and will look for the absolute in quality, even if that means spending $10,000 on a pair of speaker interconnects for what most consumers would consider a diminished return and not worth it. Use my 10% rule as a good place to start for interconnects and power cables, but always audition what you buy and if you don't see hear a diference or don't think it is worth it, take it back. But please do not critisice those of us that strive for the perfect sound and image.
