- Q:it just go? I was told that my water pump had leaked at least for awhile before it went and if it had been in the garage someone competent should have noticed it. Then other people have told me No it just goes.whats accurate?
- You can have a small leak for a long time before a complete failure. Some cars, it's harder to inspect the front of the block than others. But the things or you can say the parameters i required in that pump is, 2 inch minimum outlet from where the water come out, pressure 130 or above (in PSI) runs wid a 1 or 2 Horse Powered motor not more then 2HP. - Q:Hi all, I went on vacation and forgot to turn my water heaters to vacation! When I returned the water was cold coming through the faucet. After some investigation I realised the water heater pump had tripped the trip switch on the main electric panel. I reset it and thought all would be fine. Now it is OK for a day or two and then it trips the electric panel again. Any Ideas on what is the matter and how I might fix it? The water heaters themselves are fine and are burning all OK. - Your problem could be in the breaker itself. It is possible the breaker is bad and needs replaced. Usually if a heating element burns out it will not tripp the breaker. If an element has burned out you can still use the water heater but your water will not be as hot and will not last as long when running the hot water because it is only heating at 110 instead of 220. If you have knowledge about electricity and have a tester, you can test the elements to see if they are working or not. Make sure you have the breaker to the heater shut off before you try testing the elements. Take the two wires off the element and with the tester check and see if shows any resistance on the test meter. If it shows resistance the element is most likely ok. Check the second element the same way. If you find one with no resistance on the tester then that element could be the problem. Not always, but most of the time the lower element will be the one burned out. Your description doesn't sound like a thermostat problem. New elements are not expensive and you can get them at your local hardware stores, Lowe's or Home Depot stores. If you want to change them out yourself, you will need to drain the water heater to remove the elements. You will also need a wrench (socket) to take the elements out because they screw into the water heater. Take the old elements with you when you go to get new ones so you make sure to get the right elements. To put the new elements in just reverse the procedure. Always make sure before you do anything to shut the breaker off to the water heater. If the new elements does not correct the problem the breaker would be the next thing to look at.

- Please get the workshop manual. From an imperfect memory it should be in forward gear to expose a link - but I could be confusing it with other brands. This brand has a known issue with the water pump if ever run dry as both the impellor and the housing can be damaged instantly. The pump should always be replaced as a full assembly, housing, seals and impellor, as detritus can easily block water galleries and that requires extensive work to remediate. The thermostat should be checked and replaced at the same time. Worn and damaged impellor material can easily end up through the block, head, thermostat etc. and that must be checked for as well. The lower cylinder can be down on compression caused by local overheating due to this and mud, sand and corrosion reducing water flow. An engine that very much must be flushed and looked after after all use - that includes all the larger models with this brand. They are quite a good engine, but seem very heavy for the output to me - particularly compared to lifting a two stroke on and off....

- Not very easy, apparently, but probably not as hard as a timing belt driven water pump is (first source). You don't mention the year or engine, but if you plug your actual info into the estimator in the second source it will give you a better idea. I used a 2000 Focus with 100K miles; it looked like 2 1/2 hours of labor (figuring about $100 per hour) for the dual OHC engine and about 2 hours for the single OHC engine.

When I went out to change the filter on the pump I noticed a valve leaking...I went to check on it and noticed it had two settings if you will. one says System and the other says by pass if I move the lever to system the leak stops, if I move it back to bypass the leak continues...question is which one should I have it set on and what is the purpose?
- Okay, Adam, we also have a well and just put in a new one. The setting that says System means that the water is running through the filter. The setting that says by pass means that the water is NOT running through the filter. You will have water either way in your house (or you should).
