- Q: I was was wondering how to calculate the head flow rate from a water pump. The water pump outputs 2 bar, which means that it will push water up to 20m in height. It also has a throughput of 2000 litres per hour.I want to pump water up to my loft, which is approx 15m above the pump. What will the flow rate be at this height? Is it a linear calculation of percentage of drop from maximum head height multiplied by the flow rate, (eg 5/20 * 2000 = 500 litres per hour?), or is it more complicated than that?
- If your pump has more capacity than you need, you can always restrict the discharge and create extra artificial head.
- Q: Today I was installing a new water pump on my 1999 grand Prix. When tightening the bolts one of them snapped off. Now the pump leaks from that broken bolt. I was wondering if I would be able to stop the leak using some sort of sealant or would I have to take the car in to get the bolt removed?
- Putting sealant on it might stop it from leaking for a while, but that's not a good fix. If you seal it up and it doesn't work, it could end up being a huge repair. In addition, what if a temp fix leaks profusely at the worse time. The best thing is to take it apart and fix it right.
- Q: Our mechanic wants to replace my husband's water pump in his 1996 Saturn saying it is quite loose. We'd like to wait until next week since its a 2 day job and with our schedules it would be difficult. Can it wait for a couple of weeks? Could this leave him stranded?
- There is no way of knowing how long it will last. How long has it been going out? What does the mechanic mean by loose? Is it leaking water? It could last a couple of years, it could go out tomorrow. If you trust your mechanic, which I would over people on here, I would have the water pump changed as soon as possible. When it goes out, and it will, it will leave you stranded, and in the most inappropriate place and time.
- Q: I know that the water pump is belt driven, so it would be easy to connect it to my bicycle. What I am wondering is if I can pedal fast enough to make it work. Does anyone know how fast I would need to pedal to operate the pump?
- Idle speed of car at minimum is around 600 RPM.Too fast to pedal.
- Q: Hello, I'm having an issue with grinding/metallic noise from engine bay. Alternator was replaced today and didn't fix. However, when I got the car back from the garage the oil level indicator is saying quot;inactivequot;. I seem to find some answers on the web that say the oil level indicator is in some way connected to the water pump. Car has 95k miles on and I doubt it had been changed. Could this be the cause of the noise? And could anyone possibly tell me which pulley it is on the belt? Many thanks for your time :)
- Alternator replaced? Will you be getting credit back for that? Anyway, at 95k it's almost about time to do a full preventive maintenance thing. That includes the water pump, belts, radiator hoses, I would do the tensioner and idle pulley too since one is there already. Would replace the radiator expansion tank too. Change the spark plug and valve cover gasket too while you are at it. The spark plug can be done separately, but it's time to replace them.
- Q: A pump, the flow rate of 30T/H per hour, lift 30 meters, should be allocated more power motor?
- Mgh=ptIn 1 hours30*1000*10*30=p*3600P=2500 (W)Therefore, the ideal state should be more than 2500W motorWith all kinds of losses, it is recommended to configure more than 3000W motors
- Q: Trying to replace my water pump and was told labor would cost $90 for an 06 impala 3.9L I don't know if it's reasonable for the amount of work.
- way too cheap , they are obviously going to stack the price on extras and ancillaries, belts, coolant, thermostat etc
- Q: 99 Cherokee I6. There is low pitched noise coming from the area of the water pump and alternator. Like a grinding grumbling. The water pump pulley is not loose and will not rock back and forth. Nothing is leaking. Tomorrow is forecast as icey and I have a choice of sending my wife 30 miles each way to work in the Cherokee or a 2005 Mustang, which is absolutely terrible in the snow or ice. I can get the car into the shop on Thursday for diagnosis and repair. Since the pulley is not loose I am thinking it will be OK for another day even if it is the water pump bearings. Thoughts?
- Check the Tensioner pulley it is next to the power steering pump. It is the most likely part to fail, and make this noise. Be Careful and place a long screwdriver on a none moving part of each part you suspect. If you carefully place your ear on the handle you can tell which part is the loudest. The engine will be running so please be careful or stop off at your local mechanic and have him fix it first. If it is a slight rumble you'll most likely be ok. If it is a loud grinding have her take the mustang or the day off.
- Q: The dealership wants nearly $500. to replace the water pump in our 2002 Tahoe (5.3) it's leaking from the weep hole. I'm somewhat mechanically declined, what precautions will I need to know and any special tools to do the job myself? I've done a few water pumps back in the 1980's that didn't leak Thank you
- i have a 2002 silverado and i had the same problem, here is the deal i am mechanically inclined and the labor on this calls for about 6 to 8 hrs i went to napa and purchased a new water pump not a newly rebuilt one but a new for around 200.00 and let a buddy change mine for 125.00 also go ahead and replace the thermostat while its out because it mounts in the bottom of your water pump they are around 25.00 but anyways i would let someone do it i looked at mine and it covers the whole front of the engine i have replaced numerous water pumps and i didn't like the mess it looked like it would be
- Q: How does a pump pump water?
- Centrifugal pump is centrifugal force, and household deep well pump is primary pressure
