- Q: Also why is it called quot;phantompower? Don't you think there should be a seperate category for technical questions about music!!?
- Yes, you can use regular XLR cables for microphones that require phantom power. The only reason why some microphones require phantom power is because they require extra voltage flowing through the XLR cable. Condenser mics are the most commonly used mics that require phantom power, mainly because of the way the diaphram picks up sound (condenser mics pic up sound in a narrower area around the mic, yet can pick up distant sounds somewhat better). It earned the name phantom because it is invisible to other balanced (non-condensing, etc.) mics that don't need the extra power. A tech section would make it easier on most of us, because most of the important questions get lost in the typical whuz you're fav song or need lyrics plz questions that flood the section.
- Q: why my pc is shutting down and restarting only when removing the power cable and connecting it again?
- DURTA DURR, THINGS DONT NEED POWER, THEY JUST SUMHOW WORK DURTA DURR UNPLUG BATTERIES FROM A WIRELESS MOUSE DURTA DURR DONT WORRY IT WILL WORK DURTA DURR
- Q: trying to install new amplifier; running cable from battery through firewall to the trunk; done on several cars before; looking for advice or best practices...
- in addition to what ed said. if you drill through a firewall or bulkhead install a grommet or use a piece of rubber tubing [hose] to protect the wire. also make sure that where you drill, nothing is behind it. ruining your evaporator or heater core normally means that the dash will have to come out for repairs on most cars ,nothing cheap here.and pinching cable around a hinge or other movable part is begging for a fire. i see this sort of crap all the time and i wonder how these owners get up and down the road without hurting someone or themselves. take your time and don't cheap the job out, most cases another twenty minutes and 5.00 dollars of parts would have resulted in a solid installation instead of a burned out hulk.
- Q: hey people i would like to know that my big fat power cable thing is not going into the socket the main power socket thing of the back of my xbox 360 elite and was wondering is there a way to fix that
- It only goes in one way, look at the shape then match it to which way it goes in. It will go in, but can be a real pain at times.
- Q: I need to resolve a debate- is there a power/telephone line under the sea running between the UK and USA? Or is the communication just done by satellite?
- **Power** cables, no. But transatlantic telephone cables still exist and are still in use.
- Q: So this is on my brothers christmas list and I can't find one anywhere. I'm assuming that computers don't have the juice to power a 1TB external without a power source, especially since he needs this for a laptop. He just wants it USB powered, btw.If anyone can find one for me that would be great, because I can't seem to...Thanks!
- Something that large without a power cable would undoubtedly power surge your mother board, or at the very least your USB controllers. . . so, the answer is no. . .they do not make this yet. When the day comes when a 1TB drive can be made solid state, rather than using a movable head like they are now, then maybe this will come about. . . but certainly not before then.
- Q: I need this for my HD slim that just gets power from USB and my music class the USB items they use suck all the power.but i have a wall USB power source.
- Yes I'm sure this would work. Just solder the red and black wires to an other usb cable and leave the other 2 data ones going into the computer. Plug the power usb cable into your adaptor and It should work. The device is still getting the 5volts it needs so I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
- Q: I have a ZXi8008 and there's a cable that goes out to the head unit to turn on the amplifier, which is different than the power cable. But in this car, i have not installed a new head unit. Where do I hook up this cable otherwise? It needs a constant power supply to be on.
- i would hook it up to the power cable from ur stero that whay the amp will only come on when the radio comes on. that way u wont drain ur battery, thats if ur talking about the remote cable
- Q: NE1 have a surge protector and power filter for there home theatre stuff? If so what is the model and did it make a difference? I have RF grounding problem through my cable and was wondering if the moster cable boxes would help clean up the signal. I have to wrap a wire around the coax cable and ground it to something to make SOME not all of the noise dissappear. (lines rising from bottom to top of picture) Obviously I want a more definate and permant solution. Thanks.
- Yes, a power conditioner will not only clean the power, but take out any humming or ground loop issues. I noticed a difference in audio and video. I have a Monster Power MKIII 3600. I got it for $200, on sale at Circuit City a year ago. I highly recommend it if you have a multi-component home theater or expensive TV. I have a 50 plasma, DVD player, Comcast box, AV receiver, Xbox and Nintendo Wii. They are all connected through the power conditioner.
- Q: This morning my cable modem seems to be malfunctioning...it's a Motorola SURFboard and it has a column of lights on the front (labeled Power, Receive, Send, Online, Activity, and Standby accordingly) that are all supposed to be lit up (except Standby) when I'm online. Well some of the lights keep going on and off--namely the quot;receivequot;, quot;sendquot;, and quot;onlinelights. In addition, my internet is operating very slowly and/or not at all; sometimes I get the quot;page cannot be displayedmessage when I try to navigate to another page; sometimes it goes thru ok but loads at snail's pace. Does this mean there's a problem with my computer or modem, or is it just that the internet is down in my area?
- Turn off your computer. Unplug the power cable from your cable modem and wait 4 minutes. Plug the power cable back into the cable modem. Turn on your computer. Check to see if the problem is solved. If not... call your ISP and explain what you just did to them. If power cycling the modem didn't reset the connection, it could be that your cable service is having problems in your area or that your cable modem is bad.
