- Your subwoofer amp requires a given amount of power to run. Provided it is getting that amount of power, and provided it is free of ungrounded interference, it will produce as clean as sound as possible. A bigger power cord wont produce more power in itself, it would simply offer less resistance. And in this case, you wouldn't be gaining anything. Bigger cables only affect applications where you are delivering signal. Again, less resistance allows more of the signal to get through, offering (perhaps) better sound quality. Even in this case, it wouldn't have any affect on volume.

- That means your Amplifier is connected directly to the battery -ve.Then both should work. What is the power level of Battery?If old there is a possibility of full discharge. Dim lights, are an indication of discharged battery. If discharged,re-charge it before next trial. If battery is in good charged condition,starter will work. (Otherwise,Check for any mistakes.Reinstate the connection).

- ok....this might not be you power supply cable.. this may be a problem with your powerjack in your laptop, if that's loose, then it won't recieve any power from the cable...it will randomly though..i had the same problem a few months ago, and a little solder job will do the trick! take it to a good local repair guy (or me if you're in the uk hahaha)... and have the power jack resoldered.. try your power supply on another similar laptop to make sure it's not that..but generally speaking..once a power supply's fried..it won't work randomly...all it is, is a transformer and a converter... it would make sense if it was the power jack loose or has a faulty connection to the motherboard :) hope this helped!
