Q: engine is on a generator with about 800 hrs. changed fuel and fuel is getting to cylinder, pulled valve cover and valves are moving like they should, sprayed either in air intake and still no pop. any ideas other than to scrap the engine: Either needs a little fuel present to combust properly in an engine. If there isn't any, either won't do anything except make the engine spin over faster. Double check to make sure the injector pump is supplying fuel to the injectors.

REGARDING THIS.THANKS IN ADVANCE.CHEERS CARL GIN: Does the Esab welder have high frequency? If so the high freq. is feeding back into the generator and frying the electronics. You may need to have the generators repaired. The only way to prevent damage is to turn the high freq. off, or drive an earth ground as close to the welder as possible and you have to run a wire to your grounding clamp to this ground and the machine ground needs to go to this also. You have to get the high freq. out of the circuit as quick as possible. (I have a Hobart Champion Fabshop that is notorious for this.)

Q: HelloI am doing a question on my homework and im being asked to determine how long a tank of gas on a diesel generator would last a family if one tank produced 20kW of electricity. This family uses 2.052kWh of electricity every day. The problem i have run into is that i don't know how to determine how long tha tank can last with only those values, i have a feeling im missing something very obvious here. Any help would be great.Thanks!: You can't quite do this from first principals. The Gen-set manual may give a spec for fuel consumption, or for efficiency. More likely it does not. The solution is to fill the tank, run it on a dummy load or a real load, if you like, and see how long it takes to get to half way. Or some graduated point. I wouldn't run a diesel dry, as they tend to continue to run on their lubricant until they seize up. Much as I like to model and estimate things, I'm still an empiricist at heart. Jim Jarvis

How much you run the generator is the same as running your light Or treadmill. However since power from the company is more steady and subsides, it's cheaper to be on the grid than to generate your own electricity especially with today's high gas prices.

Q: I have a Diesel generator using leroy sommers alternator and which uses intelilite MRS 11 controller , it is 380 V , 50 Hz , yesterday i started having problems , after running the genset for like 12 seconds it shuts down and i get two error msgs the first one is : Shutdown Level for Phase 1 under volts the second error msg is : Shutdown Level for Gen voltage Unbalance .in the first 12 seconds the voltage on 3 phases got no problem and after 12 seconds the generator auto shuts down and i cannot seem the find the problem , any help will be appreciated: As a rule of thumb, the first alarm is the one which triggers the rest, so, concentrate on that one. If you have only one phase with a low voltage alarm, a) there is a short somewhere on that phase. Check the phase currents before shut down. If everything looks ok , probably a generator winding is shorted. b) Check the phase voltages before shut down, if everything looks ok, the relay is faulty, have it checked. -

Q: I am installing a 7,7 KW diesel 110v generator on my boat. I need to know the main breaker disconnect size in amps: Within the USA the national electrical code for wall outlets call for using 12 gauge wire and a 20 amp breaker and a 20 amp outlet. They have to be sized together like this. If you are using heavy duty equipment that draws a lot of amps then only have 1 outlet on that circuit. You really should consult a local electrician on this.

Q: I need a generator that will power alot of stuff, preferably cheap as possible, or any other power source of that kind.it will need to power about 5 normal appliances and a 600w bulbany ideas: Cheap as possible - go Chinese if you want to use it once a year and don't care if it goes paf at any time. Honda makes some good units if you want quality and back up. You need to add up the power draw of your five normal applications and your 600w lighting load. Add 25% and the unit will be adequate. If your appliances have induction motors you will have to have at least three times the rated power of the motor(s) to get them to start safely. If you need more than 3000 watts of constant power you should consider diesel, for longevity go for slow speed i.e.1500 or 1800 rpm engine speed. Price will range from $400 for a 2500w Chinese thingy up to at least $14,000 for a fully enclosed automatic 12KvA super silenced slow speed diesel unit on a slide. Running costs get high with the bigger petrol units. Inverters are good, but you will still have to generate power some how for the batteries - wind, water, solar, generator etc. Will be more expensive to set up but will be better long term for a cabin or similar.
