Q: i have my own horses but i only have 3 rugs for each of them :turnout, cooler and stable.iv ecently been looking for new coolers on a website but i saw lots of different ones like travel rugs, fly sheets florecent exersize sheets etc.should i be buying all these or are they just different names for the ones i have allready?
All horse with turn out need two turnout rugs. One drying. one on. One light weight stable rug One heavy weight stable rug (if clipped out) One cooler. If clipped an exercise sheet is a good idea, get a florescent one perhaps. Cooler doubles up as travel rug.
Q: I'm interested in re-carpeting our new house in two small bedrooms, which are approximately 12x14 each. I'm assuming carpet is $1.50 per square foot, but I have no idea about carpet padding.I'm looking into Home Depot for installation. What do you think a rough estimate for my budget should be?Thanks!
It really depends on what you pick out. Synthetic is cheaper than wool. I've recarpeted the same house twice. Once I put down synthetic pile and it was under $2000. Once I put down wool berber and it was $4500. Just really depends on what you pick out. Also, if you pay someone to do the installation, they will charge for every piece of furniture they have to move, charge for pulling up and disposing old carpet, and if you have stairs, they charge extra for those.
Q: Doesn't carpet bombing subdue countries quicker and with less casualties than other methods?
No, it doesn't. The most bombed country in history was North Vietnam, and they were scarcely subdued - they ended up winning the war! I wonder if you've been reading Mitchell and Douhet's theories? In reality, air bombing is very effective against point targets or small-area suppression. But trying to carpet-bomb with conventional explosives simply creates alot of collateral damage. It doesn't give you any additional military effectiveness while putting your air-fleet at much greater risk.
Q: My parents bought our house two years ago. It was remodeled by the previous owners, and they cut a lot of corners just to sell the house faster. We were unaware of this when we bought it, and we soon found a bunch of mistakes. We have berber carpet in beige. I absolutely hate this carpet and so do my parents. We have three dogs and they track in mud sometimes. It is hard to clean. Plus, my dogs seem to think they can dig through our floors, so they unravelled the berber carpet outside my bedroom door. What is the best carpet for us? Something that cleans well, but is tough enough to last years? What colors do you recommend also? Thank you.
Carpet is such a taste thing. I like level loop carpet (like most commercial carpet.) In fact, I like commercial carpet period, as long as it is made of nylon. IN your case, if you use commericial carpeting, make sure it is continuous backing that is water proof. Nylon will not stain, is very easy to clean with a steam extractor (buy one and keep it handy if you have doggies). The most important part is the water proof continuous backing...water cannot penetrate the backing and therefore, will not drag up dirt into the top when the carpet dries! Commercial carpeting is all moving towards squares that, when laid, look like a continuous carpet..the glue used makes it easy to remove and replace a square should it become badly damaged...no problems with the entire carpet! BUT it is expensive (and well worth the money)...figure about 30.00 a yard installed. No padding is used. Furniture does NOT have to be removed from the room. And it will last probably a lifetime under your wear/tear conditions. Install once and be done with it...therefore, choose a neutral tweed...biege with brown, black, gray, copper flecks will go with everything, anything in the future. Good luck, Goldwing
Q: My carpet needs a good cleaning, but I am afraid that by shampooing the carpet, the wetness will ruin my hardwood floors underneath..
Shampoo The Carpet
Q: I just need to average pricing for carpets. I don't need instalation, just the carpet itself. The carpet I need to match is kind of a cheaply made carpet, my dog tore it up trying to get out of the bedroom.
Carpet runs anywhere from $2 a square yard to $35-up. You need to go to a carpet store and look at samples to get a price. There is a huge store near the square on 41. EDIT - Since you need a small carpet, ask to see their remnant room. You might find just what you need at a fraction of the cost.
Q: I just got an estimate to professionally steam clean a 9 * 12 turkish area rug - the estimate was for $440 which seemed high to me, but I have no reference point - is this a reasonable price? I am located in New York City - Thanks!
I'll go out on a limb here and guess that $440 is NOT high ... first, it's an Oriental ... second, you are in NYC. And ... it's a big rug! Oriental rugs need to be handled with the utmost care. I would call around to several places for price quotes. I don't actually have a point of reference, either ... but I'm betting that (in your area, at least) you'll find that the price you were given is well within ballpark range. Did you buy the rug new? If so, call the retailer and ask for a recommendation. You may be able to get a break on the price for a referral from the rug seller. If you bought the rug secondhand (or bought it mass-market ... or don't know where the rug originally came from) ... you're probably stuck paying top buck, but BE SURE to get the estimate in writing before you have any work done on the rug!
Q: I bought a 2 pelt sheepskin rug awhile back and one of my clumsy friends drop tomato sauce on it, what can I use to clean it?
Cloud Nine Sheepskin
Q: I used one of those machines to clean a rug and it's left it all streaky. I want to start again when it's dry and not using the machine..so can anyone tell me what carpet cleaner to use or has any tips or suggestions. Any help appreciated. How do you clean your rugs/carpets?
I have used a product called CAPTURE for the last 5 years and it is the best thing I have tried yet, it even got charcoal out of my white rug. I buy it from either Sears or Home Depot. A guy I used to know who sold oriental rugs told me about it. They use it to clean expensive rugs that get marks on them in the stores.
