Q: I recently moved into my first apartment and its pretty nice except for the carpet in the living room. Its a kight green color and it's just full if stains. I would love to just put a new carpet in but thats not really practical because I'm just renting the place. It waould cost stanley steamers about $100 to clean it but this carpet is really old and stained. Would it even be worth that? I'm afraid I'm gonna spend the money and it's still gonna look gross
Make sure you take before pictures! that way when you move out you wont get blamed for the stains. Sears will clean 2 rooms for $69. You could buy a green machine handheld cleaner for that price too. Most grocery stores have the rental steam cleaners for less. If you go for the professional company then they have to get it clean or they wont make you pay.
Q: I just refinished our hard wood floor and want to put down an area rug. Will the new woven backings hurt the finish?
To be honest, yes they will. My in laws have beautiful walnut hardwood floors throughout their 3600 sq. ft. home and they placed their first area rug, and when they went to clean under it only a week later, there were faint markings that they were unable to buff out. Their solution? Non slip foam on a roll that can be found either where rugs are in the store, or in the dishes/dish drainers and silverware organizers aisle. They got thick enough foam, and put it in all four corners, and three in the middle, and have been so successful that they've gotten more rugs. They have a small dog, who causes enough damage just running around on it, so this solution seems to have helped. I hope you are as lucky as they were! ; )
Q: It's dark brown colour, the carpet is nearly brand new!!Any sensible ideas on how to get it out? Thanks.
An unfortunate accident with hair dye can make cleaning carpet a nightmare. In many cases, it may even mean the end of your carpet. Hopefully it won't come to this. There are a few things you can try to remove carpet stains of this nature. First of all, it should go without saying that if hair dye is spilled on the carpet one should act immediately. Dampen a sponge and apply dishwashing liquid. Blot the stain with the sponge until you've lifted as much of the dye as possible. You can also try doing the same thing with vinegar. If this doesn't work and the stain hasn't set into the carpet too deep, you might be able to snip the very top fibers of the carpet without anyone knowing. If none of this works, you'll have to call in a professional who makes cleaning carpet stains his business or rearrange your furniutre to hide the stain...
Q: There's carpet in the house. What's the pest?
After two or three years, the carpet should be cleaned with chemicals. After cleaning the carpet, such as the need to continue to spread, should wipe the floor slab.
Q: I have a candle that dripped wax on a carpet so what is the easiest way to remove it from my carpet?
Have the same problem right now...take ICE CUBES, get wax as cold as possible, take dull knife (butter knife) and scrape...most of the wax will chip off. Any residual that you cannot get off, take warm iron over paper towel covering wax..the wax will melt into the towl and be removed. Good luck, I have to do this tomorrow.
Q: I don't think it would be a good idea to have one in a dorm (harder to clean, etc.) so what should I tell my roommate? She won't give up on trying to convince me.
If your only reason for not wanting the rug is that it would be more difficult to clean, then agree to get a shag rug only on the conditions : 1. she purchases the rug (which will then obviously be hers to keep once you two stop living together); 2. she cleans the rug; AND 3. she doesn't get bent out of shape if you think the rug needs cleaning and you then ask her to do so. If she is trying THAT hard to get you to okay having a shag rug, then I'd let her do it, as long as she knows that it is her responsibility to clean it, AND that cleaning is subject to both of your subjective opinions on cleanliness.
Q: Hi everyone, I have a encolsed porch that i am redoing and the exsiting floor is wood and is painted so i just repainted it well i was thinking about painting a rug onto the floor just to add a little something different and special to the room. I am having a hard time finding any informatiot on it. I am looking for ideas for patterns (a little more torwards a country pattern) and ideas on how to do it what steps i should use and if anyone out there has ever done this you're input on it would be sooooo geatly appreciated!!! In a nutshell any hep at all would be appreciated!!! Thank you for you're time:)
One option you might ought to consider is a semitransparent stain with a white or light gray pigment. This is a real common floor finish color and would hold up a lot better than a paint. The grain still shows through a little and it tends to look like an antique type wood finish.
Q: A friend wants to order a high-quality Chinese carpet for his office. He wants the carpet made according to his specific measurements so that it will fit into the room the way he wants it to. Do any manufacturers offer this service?
Try a carpet shop.
Q: I'd like to know how REAL fur coats, bear skin rugs, etc. are made (by hand not industrial process) as I don't believe its tanning like in leather as it requires the fur to be stripped. I know the animal is killed and harvested, but someone please start after that and tell me as I'm trying to do research for a story I'm working on and I have no experience at this aspect. And if you have an idea of how long they last I'd appreciate it. Also, are they as soft and flexible as it seems or are they harder like leather? Thank you. Also I know its a cruel process and all so please no sarcasm.
Many of us wear them, but we don't actually make them into coats or rugs. They're ALREADY sold in stores ready to wear. My very first fur coat was from a curly lamb suede outside, fur inside.
Q: Whether is the wood floor good or the carpet good in the bedroom?
Wood floor is better.
