- I have never met a rug that could not be washed in the washer (except wool rugs). Cold water, regular laundry detergent, just like the Target site suggests. However...here's the clincher. To machine dry or air dry? That is the question. If you allow a rug to air dry, sometimes it looks matted afterward. With shag, this is less likely to happen. It happens more frequently with plush rugs. On the other hand, if you machine dry, the rug looks beautifully fluffy, but the backing comes off in a million little pieces. For your rug? I would machine wash it in cold, and then let it air dry. I think you'll be happy with the result. If not, try tossing it in the dryer on fluff or No Heat. Good luck. -

I have seen some great deals at Lowes and Home Depot adn they offer really low prices for install.

- If it left streaks you should have gone over the carpet again with the machine. They are more effective and your hands. If you use the machine again boil your water so it is super hot and then go over the floor again.
