- Q: I got a rug burn on my toe Monday and not quite sure how to treat it. When I looked up how to treat rug burns, every site said that they were like 1st degree burns or a sunburn and should be pretty much treated the same way. However mine is open and for the first few days, was leaking pus and a clear liquid. It hasn't healed up yet and I have been treating it as a cut. It fizzes when peroxide is applied but today didn't do it as much (and hurts much less). Am I doing the right thing? Also is there a cool trick to get a band aid to stay on my toe? The burn is at the joint that is the foot equivalent of a knuckle.
- Use Aloe Vera gel. It will help it to heal faster. Keep it around, it's great stuff. Or you can buy an Aloe plant and cut a leaf and rub the gel on.

- Believe it or not... Oxy Clean (Powder Form). BEFORE YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, TEST A SMALL SPOT IN A CLOSET TO MAKE SURE THE COLOR IS NOT AFFECTED IN YOUR CARPETING (you did not mention what color your carpet was). Use a small bowl with about 1/2 scoop and cold water in the bowl. Keep mixing until it is dissolved. Actually pour enough on the stain to actually soak it and rub lightly with a toothbrush. Leave it alone for about 1 hour. After that, start blotting it up with paper towels. Repeat if necessary. PS: My home is carpeted throughout with white carpet, so I have had some experience with stains.

- Commercial carpets usually have a denser shorter pile and a stronger, thicker backing that is sealed to be waterproof. Commercial carpets are not as soft under the feet but will usually wear better and stand up to a lot of traffic and cleaning.

- Depends on the type of carpet your purchasing. Regular residential carpet such as you textures and plushes, the thickest carpet makers allow you to go is 7/16. The pad poundage is one of the most important things. They warranty no carpet under a 5 1/2# pad. Firmer is better such as a 6/8 or 10# pad for standard carpet. Walk on each density in stocking feet under the carpetr sample of the carpet you choose. There are different types of pad. There is the standard rebond made up of bits and pcs of foam. Usually this come from auto seat cushions ( scrap) and some times other places. This pad is just ok and will work. But every so often ( and its rare) you ll get a hard chunk of padding. Manufacturers will not warrenty any carpet put on anything thicker than 7/16 and rated less than 5 1/2#. Then you have a pad made specifically for carpet. No lumps or pcs. Good stuff. Then you can get some made that water will not penatrate it. Usually called pet or kid proof pad, or a similar name.Must be specially installed. Then there is rubber pad, some times guarenteed for the life of your house. Expensive and can be stiff since this is usually in the 20 # range. Berbers and commercial grade type of carpet is basically the same types of pad but the thickest you can go is 3/8 and a minimum or 8# density. All these pads are rated so that the backing material on the carpet doesn t break dont prematurely. So padding does matter and makes a differance. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. - Q: I acquired enough used carpeting (good quality) to redo my whole house,but have no padding. The padding I currently have is 30 years old,as is my current carpet. Also wondering,what is carpet crease?
- I don't know about using carpet without padding and how comfortable it is. But in my house, large rugs (no padding) on top of hardwood floors for years sort of sanded away the sheen on the floors, damaging them. So when I pulled up these big rugs after moving in, the floors underneath which had the same stained finish as the rest of the hardwood was in horrible shape. This was NOT because they had failed to finish the floors under where the rugs had gone (as was the case in some older homes). So, if' you've got hardwood and might want to have it back some day, use padding.

- Q: What color of the carpet looks good with white tile?
- Black, green, violet and orange are all good, nut the whole room style and tone should be considered. But for the coordination of the whole style . yellow floor matches well with white, blue and many other colors if the color blending is the only consideration.
- Q: Iam looking for others that can help and inspire a begninng rug hooker. I just completed my first project using burlap and wool yarn. I cannot find the same burlap or yarn in the area so would love to find some via internet or the SC/GA area. Walmart carries a very flismy burlap which I do not like, and acrylic yarns which split
- Try a mixture of white vinegar and water- 3 to 1 with the water first. Blot and use a towel to dry-Repeat several times. This worked on my wool Persian rug.
- Q: I'm changing the decor of my room. I have 2 dark blue throw rugs that wont match anymore. Instead of buying new ones, I was thinking of bleaching them, then dying them black. Will that work? if so how can I bleach them? I was going to put them in a tote with bleach and water but im not sure how much bleach and how much water I should use.
- It would probably be less hassle to get new ones. But if you want to dye them, here are some tips: do NOT bleach them to remove the chemicals. when you buy the dye, there is also a product that you use before hand (usually in the same section) that removes the old colour, first. Use that instead. You will also have to check the fabric, as dyes can only be used on certain ones.
